"Helllllo?"
The voice was chipper and demanding and loud as the Himalayan trotted down the alleyway. It was sort of late, but the darkness didn't bother her. Kitties couldn't really see in the dark, but they could see way better than people could. A small frown crossed her face when she still couldn't find what she was looking for, though. Where WAS she?
"Are we playing hide and seek? If I find you, does that make you it? Because I'll bet I can hide better than you!"
Her words were warm, encouraging, and friendly. She just wanted to play with the Senshi she felt hiding down there!
===
Captain Serpentine also heard the voice. More importantly, he felt the twin signatures of his enemies. One felt... different, distinctly other than Senshi but just as distinctly lacking in Chaos. The tiny cat seemed to be searching for another. He was quite content to let her do the work of flushing the Senshi out.

Leda would've giggled, had the only presence she felt was the light, airy signature that called to her. It felt disarming, comforting even. However, something else lurked nearby that she felt far more fear for. This person definitely felt like a Negaverser, and she had more than her fair share of them. The last time she fought one, she had Ida as a companion, but this time... Who was it she felt, now? Not a knight, not a senshi, maybe one of the cats? She didn't want to put one in danger!
Still, the fact that she was hiding from the enemy felt so... Shameful. She was supposed to get out there and fight! She had the power of steam at her fingertips! What agent could tolerate getting scalded in the face?
Not that she aimed for the face...
Leda sighed. This wasn't the time to cower in fear, especially when a fellow Order member was at risk. However, the curious companion drew closer, as she heard with the delightfully happy voice that barely reached her. She would've responded, if she wouldn't be giving her position away in the process. But... The Negaverse signature wasn't moving. In fact, it wasn't doing anything, not that she felt. Maybe the agent was just as afraid of her as she was of them? There were some pretty scary people in the White Moon Court... Maybe she was making a big deal out of nothing.
Slowly Leda emerged from the dumpster, scanning her dismally narrow view of the horizon before jumping out of the stinking cesspit of garbage. After dusting herself off, she approached the signature she felt moments earlier. "Um, hello? She called back. Still no sign of the one hailing her. "Ooh, I can't even tell where you are and you're not even hiding..." She heaved a dejected sigh. What was she looking for, a mouse?Quicksilver the Archangel

"You can't see me?" Horatio looked down at herself. Shiny, cream-colored coat? Check. Large peppermint goggles? Check. Checkered flag on fluffy adorable tail? Check and Check! How... how could the Senshi with the impressive bustle and pretty blue stripes not see her? Maybe being inside the dumpster had somehow impacted her vision. "Well, I can fix that!" The Himalayan lowered to the ground before pouncing onto the Senshi's chest! She quickly moved to wrap around her shoulders, a paw reaching through her tri-colored hair to touch her face as she purred, "Do you see me now? Do you see me?" === Serpentine was a patient officer. He heard the Senshi speaking, felt her presence... and slowly, but surely, she appeared. The first sign was the creak of the dumpster lid, and then timid foot steps forward. Finally, the girl spoke. She had yet to notice the cat that had spoken to her. He kept his eyes pinned on the alleyway, but his thoughts went elsewhere. He concentrated on his youma, the sheen of her monochrome scales, her cuved hood, her small arms. Now seemed a perfect opportunity to summon her from the ghostly realms of the Rift, to see how she could aid him in thsi upcoming battle. The stench of the Captain's surroundings disappated as his breathing slowed. The grunginess of the dumpsters and the dirt that covered the environment was a secondary concern as he formed that mental image. The last piece of the pyschological puzzle were those bright eyes, as bright as his own. Serpentine imagined locking his gaze with them. 'Stheno... come.

Leda giggled happily when the cat ambushed her so playfully. She easily wrapped her arms around the ball of fluff, cradling the kitten close, despite the paw across her face. "Ooh, you're so colorful!" She exclaimed, taking in the various candy-themed and racer-oriented paraphernalia decorating the cat. "But I don't know if I can see you quite clearly yet! I might have to cuddle you a while longer." And Leda would've continued to elaborate on how absolutely soft this little guardian kitty was, but the looming presence of a Negaverse officer quashed all thought of such lighthearted things.
The smile faded with the coming wave of dread and she swallowed heavily. "Um, you're a cute little thing, but I think we should go. I mean, something's not right here..." These cats were a useful addition to the White Moon Court; she had a duty to protect this budding little kitten as best she could, right? Without her, there were less means to awaken new senshi to their plight.
New senshi... She wasn't much different from them. More powerful, but just as muddled and misguided.
"Hey, um..." She didn't know the cat's name, and now wasn't the time for introductions. Instead she set the fluff ball onto the ground and pet her lightly. "Do you think you can maybe, um, find somewhere to hide? I don't want you getting hurt, and..." She dropped her voice to barely a whisper. "Someone's here - I don't know if they're watching us or what, but I think it's a good idea for you to go now."
Leda straightened up and steadied herself for a fight, though her heart railed against her chest and her palms were slick with a cold sweat. Really she should've turned and ran - this wouldn't go well, even with a guardian cat at her side.Quicksilver the Archangel stheno reminds me of deis!

To Horatio, giggles were better than Beethoven, cuddles were better than silk. Her purr increased in intensity into a full-out thrumming sound as she soaked up every drop of the affection offered to her. "Okay, we can cuddle for a long time and I'll get to know you, and you'll get to know me, and I'll figure out why you look familiar and--" The motormouthed cat was cut off by the new worries she heard in her new friend's voice, felt in the subtle tightening of soft hands on her fur. The Himalayan's whiskers quivered as she wriggled her nose and took several sniffs of the air. Yes, beneath the garbage scent was something far yuckier, dark and Chaotic. Yet, her light words seemed unconcerned, "Oh, you're right. Welp, time for us to get busy then!" She hopped down from her companion's shoulders and gave a languid stretch, including unsheathing her claws. "If you think I'm going anywhere, then you're just being silly. Two against one is always better odds, and besides, I just found you and I don't want to lose you again. I'm sugar and spice and don't you forget it!" === It took a few minutes of intense concentration, but his patience paid off, as it usually did. In a surge of Chaos, the humanoid youma bonded to him appeared and slithered to his side. Serpentine stroked her scaled hood possessively and was rewarded with a pleased flicking of her tongue. The Captain could feel the bond pulsing deep within his chest, and it was a comforting tether. It was their first battle together. He could not help but grin as he leapt from his sentinel position. Serpentine would be lying if he said he was not looking forward to it. He would not underestimate the Senshi, despite her bar wench look, nor the talking cat, whose power he did not know. Even so, the only tone to his few words was one of easy confidence, of one who saw victory as a certainty. "Stheno. Attack." Immediately, the Naga drew herself to her full height and spat her blinding venom towards the Senshi and her fluffy companion. Serpentine's whip cracked to the other side. Both attacks had the potential to be avoided - it just never occurred to the proud Captain to doubt himself or his youma.

Leda was highly surprised that the little puffball wanted to stand and fight - why couldn't she show such bravery in the face of the enemy? Maybe the kitten understood the importance of fighting, or at least viewed it as a necessity. Did she? No - she still wanted to explore the merits of diplomacy. She didn't want to scald anyone, even if they tried to drain her energy or chase her down with an extremely intimidating snake youma thing.
"Um, it's not really two against one anymore..." She stuttered out while she watched the naga materialize with vivid terror. As much as she wanted to flee the scene, to escape to the life she once enjoyed full of safety and peace, the odds of that happening were nil. It wasn't just because the man would pursue her as every Negaverse agent had, but she couldn't leave behind a new comrade who showed far more bravery than she could ever hope to obtain. And yet, she was honestly considering turning tail and running.
But before she even embarked on that decision, the snake-like beast spat some kind of venom toward them. With a startled shriek, Leda tried to avoid the spray, and in doing so, sustained a deep crack across her shoulder by the captain's whip. She howled in pain and clutched the injury, as she had little experience with such a direct hit. After doubling over for a moment, she gritted her teeth and forced herself to stand her ground.
There's a kitten here, she reminded herself. I don't want to leave her behind to deal with these two. She wouldn't make it... And I don't want to be the cause of another death, not to these people.
Having reaffirmed her conviction, Leda steadied herself with her feet spread apart as Maia taught her back when she was a basic senshi. In the midst of her concentration, she called the powers of steam to swirl around her, forming a decently-sized orb in her hands. She needed this power to dissuade her foes, to send them scattering back to their homes and relinquish their desire to fight for the night. She wasn't going to kill them, only force them out of this alley. She didn't seek miracles, she sought a little safety for the two of them.
This wasn't a hero's mission. It was a survival mission.
She could do this. She didn't have time to doubt herself.
"Leda Scalding Blast!" She called, as she hurled the ball toward them as hard as she could. If she could aim, they'd certainly regret going after a little kitten...Quicksilver the Archangel Super Sailor Scout Attack: Leda Scalding Blast Leda positions her hands as if she's holding onto a softball, and steam swirls into the empty space between her palms in an orb shape. She then throws the ball of steam at the ground or a foe, and the ball explodes into a puff of steam spanning a ~10 feet diameter from that area. Being hit with the ball scalds rather badly, yet can be dodged easily. The surrounding steam is more bothersome, like her first attack. Range: ~20 feet or so. It depends on how hard she can throw the ball. Time: ~3 seconds.

Strickenized Apologies for being slow. T-T Like most people, Serpentine knew the effects of steam. It puffed up in his face when he checked baked goods, it heated his hand when he stirred boiling water. Yet, he had been fortunate enough never to be seriously scalded. Until today. The ball of steam caught his side, but mostly his weapon-filled hand that he instinctively brought to defend his face. The florist screamed in pain and released the grip on his whip. He moved back to avoid a further hit--but the ball exploded into a fog of steam! Now he could see neither his target nor his weapon and felt like he was in a sauna. The tendrils around his face made him sneeze, a sound which quickly dissolved into cursing. "Damn Senshi," he hissed, sounding every bit his name. He had to wait for the steam to clear to locate his wapon, and even if he found it... he would have to wield it with his injured hand. Still, he did not back down. His pulse quickened, and his anger only grew. He had been misaken to attack head on - but he could adjust now. At least one weapon remained open to him, "Stheno...cover me." The Naga-esque youma bared her fangs at the Senshi but did not move in to bite her. Instead, she drew back to coil around her master and await further instruction. Her own weak hands sought out his, and though the contact hurt... her cool touch did, somehow, bring some relief. Together, they would wait for the steam to clear. == Horatio was wondering just who had turned out the lights?! She had been in mid-leap to sink her claws into the scaled face of the youma when a stream of liquid had hit her square in the eyes. The goggles had not been properly positioned over her tiny face, else they would have offered some protection. It burned and made her yowl even as she collapsed into the warm, comforting cloud that suddenly appeared, "It huts, it hurts, and someone blocked out the sun and I'm lost please help me and--OOF." In her blindness and writhing, the Himalayan tripped over... a soft stick? She felt all around the object with her paws. No, not a stick... maybe a jumprope? and called over to the Senshi, "Hey, I think someone lost their toy, and the bad man's going to get it if we don't take it, moo wan see?" The last few words were muffled as the small cat tried to lift the object she could not see. It was surprisingly heavy!

Leda wasn't sure what to do; she hadn't seen her attack connect this often before. The only other time she witnessed its effects were in saving Ida from certain doom, but... It still pained her in a sympathetic way to see someone yelp and seethe from being scalded so badly. Would the Negaverse agent recover, or would he be permanently disfigured due to the war? Still, she fought the urge to apologize for her actions; if he were able, he would seek her life without a second thought. She knew she needed to fight the impulse to connect with the enemy, because the enemy would only use it against her.
So she bit her tongue and turned her attention to her new ally, the Himalayan cat who stumbled about not far from her. Leda raced toward the kitten, hoping she remained largely unharmed, though she expected something horrible might've happened due to her complaining about her inability to see. "Oh, are you okay, kitty?" In an instant, she snapped up the cat, cradling her to her fuku as she stepped away from the quickly fading steam.
They didn't have much time.
As she scooped up the cat, something else fell to the ground. Something long and thin - as the steam cleared, she recognized it as the green whip he'd used just moments before. Leda usurped it in a hurry, though she found that cradling a cat as well as wielding a weapon was a thoroughly awkward affair, and she struggled to retain some semblance of a fighting stance.
Maybe she wasn't the greatest fighter in the world, but she didn't have to be right now. She just needed to drive them off, back to the Rift, so that the people of Destiny City might stay safe a little while longer. Save the deaths for the senshi willing to bleed for the cause - she wasn't one of them, and she hoped she would never resort to that.
But for right now... She needed to fight, even if she didn't want to. So with as much effort as she could muster, she tried to return the favor and whip the captain in turn. Considering she'd never wielded a whip before, she held little expectation of success.Quicksilver The Archangel

Horatio was normally content to be held up and nestled against a chest, especially a super special, warm Senshi chest. Of course, she wasn't normally blinking tears from her burning eyes which, by the way, couldn't see anything. She could feel her new friend moving, could hear something cracking - a sharp sound that made her ears swivel each time to try and find its source. Her rough tongue licked at her muzzle as she tried to dislodge the strange... leathery taste that had come in her mouth from lifting the weird jump rope. Or maybe it was the Negaverse agent weapon? The kitty hadn't gotten a really good look at it before the stupid snake had squirted her... The Himalayan squirmed and wriggled in the Senshi's grip, and her voice was a huff, "I want to see if I can pay back the big nasty snake so put me down and I'll go scratch it up and then you get the Negacreep, okay?" Now that the burning was getting a little bit more bearable, Horatio was ready to resume her role as resident spitfire. Even if it meant having to attack blind - because running just wasn't an option, you know? She had a Senshi to protect! "We've totally got this!" == The steam eventually disappated in the cool night air. The Negaverse Captain, when revealed, was statuesque in his own cold fury. Stheno relinquished her grip and slid to her full height, a pure intimidation tactic. Serpentine's mood was not improved by the futile swings of the Senshi who, clearly, had never wielded a whip in her young life. He closed his eyes and concentrated, summoning his weapon back to his hand. A pained hiss barely escaped through clenched teeth, but Serpentine quickly transferred the whip to his non-scalded hand. It would be useless there. He was by no means ambidexterous--although he made a mental note to at least begin some training with his left hand. He could not snap his fingers for attention. He could not use his weapon for its distinctive sound, which had already been cheapened by the Senshi anyway. The only sounds he made, then, came from his careful steps towards his opponent and the order he lovingly whispered to his youma, "Stheno, subdue her." The Naga sent him a confused look, but obeyed. She charged towards the Senshi and the cat, her belly scraping against the alley. Only once she began to charge did Serpentine, in turn, dash for their opponents. With an arm full of kitty, surely this Senshi could not react as quickly as she had before. Never let it be said that he did not learn from his mistakes. The steam had come from her hands; he would make sure she did not have the use of them, if he could help it. At the last possible moment, he planted his feet and launched a wild kick at the blue-and-brown clad girl.

Leda was so quickly taken aback by the kitten's brazen tone that she had no choice but to capitulate. "O-okay!" She stammered, before releasing the Himalayan once more. She had an admirable amount of feistiness, which Leda envied greatly. She knew she couldn't be that bold in battle, that she couldn't match the kitten's bravery, but the Himalayan motivated her to continue. To stand her ground. To fight the enemy, and bar their path beneath the cat's unwavering guidance. Horatio knew what to do, and that was enough to keep Leda fighting.
"You're right!" She gripped the whip tightly. She had magic. She had a weapon. She had his weapon. The Negaverse agent was disarmed, and the pair had the upper hand. She could win this, she just had to try. Horatio did her part, inspired her, attacked the enemy - so she only had to hold up her end of the bargain. Her and the agent were on equal footing in regards to power, so she stood a chance here. She didn't have to run as she did so many times prior.
Soon Leda would know victory, and the agent would scurry away with his serpentine youma.
Until her grip met nothing but warm skin. Leda glanced down in a panic, only to realize that the weapon no longer lingered in her grasp, and she glanced about herself in case she dropped it without realizing it. But the distinctive green lay nowhere in the alley, and a dejected glance toward the captain confirmed its new location. How did he even reclaim it so quickly? It was like it simply melted from her fingers and reformed in his hands... Did the Negaverse have that kind of power?
Then what good was her own?
She didn't have time to think. The man rushed her, paused, kicked at her. She reacted, backstepped, flinched, but she took a boot square to her forearm. It blazed with pain and she yelped, but she did not back away just yet. Maia taught her how to fight in hopes she would retaliate against the enemy, so she applied what she learned toward defeating her foe. The closer the fist, the quicker the hit, so she took a jab at the captain's face in hopes of at least discouraging him from close combat.
If she could just gain a little space... She might be able to pull off her basic attack and send him back into the alleys. "Leave me alone!" She squeaked angrily, though she spoke absent ferocity. If anyone sounded like a kitten here, it was her.Quicksilver the Archangel

Serpentine had expected another magic attack. That was the reasoning behind the kick - to give himself enough space in the small alley to duck or dodge a steam ball. So, the blow to his face enflamed him. It hit him squarely in the nose, but he did not recoil in pain. Anyone who damaged his face immediately made any fight personal. It would not go unavenged. He kicked her to the ground and actually dropped his whip again. There was no point in trying to use it now. He had only his body, and he truly did not want to damage THAT any further given his two injuries. But he would have his revenge. He stomped on the wrist of her blood-stained hand before sitting on the Senshi's chest. His unburnt hand closed around her throat, and he squeezed hard. There were no whispered threats in her ear. No sign of delight or mockery shone in his eyes. The only emotions he showed were pain and fury. As the blood dripped from his nose and onto the concrete, his wounded pride swelled. He used that darkness to fuel him, to squeeze harder. He doubted he could win the fight at this point... but he was not going to leave this girl unmarked. == Horatio mewled as she landed on her paws, squinting at the world around her. Okay, lots of blurry grey. And there was a blurry gold and green with a big black and white thing that slithered. That was all she needed in order to enter the right, right? Right! She dashed at full speed and launched herself with all of her tiny might. The claws of all four paws sunk into the youma's hide, causing the Naga to give a howl. A few scales fell to the ground as the Guardian Cat scrambled to climb her larger opponent, but even a weak hand was able to knock her aside. Horatio hit the alley wall with an oof. Okay, she had just about enough of all of this, and she heard Leda's squeak and its fear acutely. No more Miss Nice Mauvian. She began to charge her kitty beam. Stheno was suitably distracted by the bouncing cat. Sure, her master had given her an order... but that was before the annoying little fluff ball blocked her path. Now, it was... glowing? The youma's eyes narrowed, those slits seemingly intrigued by the light. What did it mean?

She fought to free her wrist, but she had little time to consider it before a hand closed about her throat. She struggled, choked, gasped for breath. And then the realization struck her:
(no more magic)
She couldn't draw on the power of steam to dissuade her opponent now - he would not relent until he crushed the life out of her. That much was apparent in his gaze, his stoic violence. But why? What did she do to him? How could she have possibly incited such hatred in him? Surely the ball of steam offended him greatly, but could he blame her? He sought to attack her, so she had to defend herself somehow, and her steam was her only strong and reliable method of repelling him. But... Little good it did her now, with her assailant at her throat.
No words to breathe victory. She struggled to gain breath, to stiffen her muscles against his grasp, but she lacked that kind of strength. He proved stronger, more formidable.
And she was just a girl in a little brown dress, fighting for her life.
It seemed so far away.
Leda clasped a hand over his, in a poor attempt to draw it away, but exhaustion set in soon afterward. Without air, she lacked the strength she needed to ward off this attack, so she soon discarded that approach. However, she was losing time - she needed to act, and quickly.
So instead, she used her free hand to search. At first, nothing but dregs of pavement met her fingertips - small pebbles used in the production of road tar. Sometimes it was dust. Occasionally she met a discarded candy wrapper, one that a child must've eaten while day still painted the sky. It felt a distant memory, as everything grew farther from her. Deepened in the night.
Finally her fingers brushed a more substantial object - a chunk of brick broken off from a crumbling building nearby. It felt heavy, legitimate. A fair weapon in desperate times. Her fingers fought to remain immobile, but she forced them outward, they stretched, and strained, but she managed to secure a ghost of a grip on the building material. And she drew it closer. it scraped across the ground. She placed her palm atop it, turned it in her hand. Finally she drew it back and aimed for the man's head, his temple no less, and slammed the chunk of brick with all the force she could muster against its target.
She needed air before everything escaped her.Quicksilver the Archangel

He was just waiting for her to stop struggling. The cold Captain had no compunctions about killing a girl, no matter how weak, how pathetic not in a war. Not when they might not even be humans, being as attuned to foreign moons and stars as they were. If anything, he was feeling gracious as he glared down at her. Serpentine would show her some glimmer of respect. He would leave her body in the alleyway, but he would not defile it further. The crushed hand, the bruised throat... they would be enough, if she gave up her life as well. Like the patient man he was, he simply waited for the light to die in her eyes. She deserved this. For burning his hand. For his aching nose. For his blood that dripped onto the ground. For clutching his current, strong hand as if to earn salvation from those two sins. She deserved this. The brick chunk struck him hard. Desperation added to increased physical strength Serpentine's head jerked to the side, blood spewing from his cut temple. The grip he held on the Senshi's throat immediately slacked as he brought the unwounded hand to his head and instinctively rolled away into a quasi-fetal position. Any feeling other than rage was completely out of his mind now. Any nobler sentiment sank into a howl of pain. That b***h why wouldn't she just die?! And where was Stheno?!The sudden appearance of a star-shaped beam answered his question. The Naga had continued observing the cat and finally taken matters into her own, small hands. Whatever it was, it made her nervous... and so she hurried to her master's side. She pushed him out of the way of the cat's attack but suffered a blow to her tail. She howled in anguish as the area immediately became numb. Horatio slumped onto the ground, the only movement for a moment the flick of her tail. The normally energetic cat was pretty drained after her attack. She tried to roll over to face Leda... but it was effort she just coulnd't expend. "Hey... hey, Leda... can we go home now?"

No longer was she unable to breathe. Leda coughed heavily, retracting her legs and clasping her own hands about her neck as she tried to soothe the burning ache therein. She rolled to her side for a moment, trying desperately to suppress the coughing, but little came of it. She knew she didn't have much time, so any moments wasted while catching her breath only brought the two closer to the inevitable - that the captain and his Naga girlfriend would succeed in bringing them down.
Instead she struggled to her feet, as unsteady as they were, and approached the cat who stood on the opposite side of the alley. However, she soon found herself thankful for her slowness, as a bright beam fired out of the kitten's forehead toward the officer. Unfortunately it didn't connect with him (as she found herself hoping it might put him out of commission for a while), but striking the merciless youma with it roused a small smile on her lips. She coughed into the crook of her arm out of habit, and continued toward the slumped bundle.
"Come on kitty, it's time to go home." She rasped heavily, but her hands found the soft fluff of the kitten easily enough. The cat looked terribly tired, and she could easily relate. All the fighting - all the magic - wore her out heavily. She was fairly certain that the only reason she remained standing was due to the adrenaline pumping through her veins - her body's afterthought toward life-threatening conditions.
With the kitten clutched to her chest, Leda tried to depart from the alley. Though she tripped over the occasional rock and clipped a nearby trash can, she succeeded in putting distance between herself and the enemy officer. However, she desperately needed to stop and catch her breath, and she found it might be prudent to power down and shirk the energy signature.
Besides, the kitten observing who she really was warmed her heart in a way. She'd need a place to stay for the night, right? Sirsce could always go to the grocery store and pick up some cat food, but... What if she bought shredded beef when the kitten preferred poultry platter? Or chicken and tuna with cheddar when she was allergic to cheese?
She didn't have to worry about it now, though. Leda powered down as a means to both prevent the officer from finding her and to depart from that train of thought. Sirsce needed to worry about getting the kitten to safety before she even considered what she might like to eat, so with the kitten still cradled to her chest, Sirsce departed for home.
It was the safest place she could think of.Quicksilver the Archangel this can work as a fin, or we can continue!
