The building had been on the news once at some point, in flames and crumbling with claims of monsters and the pretty-skirted terrorists. A girl named Mayumi had brushed off the talk as a news agency fishing for ratings at the time; more likely a gas leak or somesuch. Now that girl knew better - she was something more in the world, and something more in the larger battle for it.

The crumbling warehouse was quiet today, and Acanthite picked her way through it to explore. It was liberating to have her power now. She never would have dared do this when she believed herself just a normal girl. Moonlight filtered in between rafters through a gaping hole in the roof, illuminating the Senshi of the Cataract as she walked along a narrow walkway, hands outstretched to the sides, enjoying the improved balance of being a senshi.

It was patrolling in its own way, maybe. Just still practicing getting used to moving about in the uniform. Acanthite took on a fighting stance on the narrow concrete ledge, holding her fists up as she had seen boxers do, and took a few swipes at the air. If any glaring white senshi came near, she could try attacking them, maybe. She had yet to get a real victory under her belt, to take back to Ilmenite and Zinkenite to make them proud.

The building...

Serenity thought she should explore it. Something deep within her knew it wouldn't be good to let it go unexplored for long. So, as Machholz, she found her way there. Something about this building made her stomach knot up hard. Pushing her hands to her stomach, her feet took her further and further into the building. The smell of ash was strong, overwhelming, really.

Her footsteps were light, quiet, trying not to rouse any suspicion from the world outside, or anything hidden within the dark halls and rooms. The building groaned and creaked against the bit of summer wind that blew outside, causing her nerves to be on edge. Despite being a senshi, she hadn't been one long, nor had she had a battle yet. Hopefully, just hopefully, she wouldn't battle tonight. That would be amazing. Hopefully her instincts were wrong about this building.

"Monsters.. Like what ********* told me about?" She wondered out loud. What kind of monsters? She frowned hard at the thought before pulling her painted black bottom lip into her mouth. Well, she'd find out soon.

At the unexpected sound of a voice somewhere across the darkened, cluttered expanse of the shell of a building, Acanthite stumbled slightly on her railing. She kept herself from falling, but in doing so, she grasped a railing that was not quite sturdy; it shifted, and a piece of metal clattered loudly to the scorched concrete about four feet below.

Acanthite held her breath and stood still, struggling to hear if the other in the building gave any indication of approaching. The corrupted senshi could sense one of her glaring white counterparts somewhere nearby, like the beginning of a migraine aura in her mind. Though she was not exactly fearful at the idea of a battle, the poor visibility due to the crumbling wreckage of this place made some sort of sneak attack a distinct possibility.

Tactics were kind of a new idea to the auburn-haired girl. Mayumi's previous battles all took place on skates in the open.

After holding still as a statue for several seconds just listening, Acanthite ventured to move again, trying to keep the sound of her heels to a minimum as she positioned herself close to a corner. Hopefully from here, it would be harder to sneak up behind, at least.

With a loud clatter echoing through the building, Machholz froze and whimpered softly. Her arms were wrapped around herself before she could really think. Swallowing, the pale senshi let out a sigh after a long, long time and then slowly started moving again. "It was probably just a cat," she murmured, nodding. "Cats like abandoned buildings. Probably knocked something over chasing a mouse." A nervous laugh left her as she turned down one of the corridors.

It was so dark, so dusty here that Machholz wouldn't have been here in any normal situation. Then again, what was normal about being a Senshi? She hadn't even met any other ones! ...Much less any bad guys. So maybe there weren't any.

The girl was too busy with her own thoughts to hear the footsteps in the distance getting closer.

The dark senshi was still far too new and inexperienced to pinpoint the enemy girl in the building, but she knew she was here somewhere. She held her breath for a moment, listening closely for any sound from the stranger. Then stepped out again, and jumped up to a ledge to get a better vantage point.

... On second thought, maybe it would just be better to announce herself. Acanthite had no reason to be ashamed, or skulking about.

"I know you're in here somewhere," the Senshi of the Cataract called out, tensing slightly and looking around as her voice echoed to fill the expanse of the crumbling building.

Just when she was about to turn back and go the way she came, someone called out from in the building, their voice echoing loudly. She tensed a bit and let her brows knit. Oh no. She was going to have to fight? Her stomach knotted even more and she took a deep breath to attempt to calm her nerves. She didn't want to fight, but it was her job. She would have to have her first battle sooner or later.

She just hoped what came from her didn't sound as scared as she was.

"Come out ad you won't get hurt!"

Despite everything, her voice echoed and it didn't sound as bad as she thought it did. "Show me who you are!" Maybe it was another senshi! Maybe she wouldn't have to fight after all!

Acanthite hopped up onto a crumbling wall, stumbling slightly as it tried to crumble further, but managed to get her footing. And from there, she could see the other girl.

It was another senshi, alright. She smiled. Maybe she could try to entice this one to join her side, too.

"I'm Acanthite," she called down to the white-haired girl. "Who are you, wandering around here all alone?" The senshi of the cataract figured giving off an air of confidence might deter the White Moon girl from attacking.

And if not, well. She could try out her attack on a live target.

When someone actually stepped out, Machholz jumped and got herself in a defensive stance. She wasn't going to be surprised by an attack! Her eyes narrowed as the other started talking and she just swallowed. "You don't have the right to question me. What are you doing here?" Was this a senshi? Her energy was so different than her own.

Her breathing was even, focusing to keep it like that ad her eyes flicked from the left and the right before looking up at the other again. Way to have no training for this. She didn't even know the first thing about how to fight, aside from the few shove fights she got in on the ice, skating in her civilian form. "You don't feel right."

Acanthite laughed once and shook her head. "If I don't have a 'right' to ask questions, then I don't have to answer any of yours," she called back. How rude to suggest such a thing, that the white senshi was somehow more privileged than she was! Maybe this girl needed to be taught a lesson. Convince her to give Acanthite the respect she deserved!

She crouched slightly, clenching her fists. "And you've got a smart mouth," she shot back, then leapt towards the other girl, drawing one fist back and aiming a punch.

Punches were less familiar, but the dark senshi at least knew from roller derby experience that momentum could be a decent weapon, too.

Maccholz bristled physically at the refusal to answer the questions. The white senshi actually bared her teeth a little and then puffed herself up, trying to make herself seem taller and bigger than she actually was. Her heels shuffled as she shifted her weight from foot to foot, the feeling that staying still was going to be a bad idea a driving point.

Then the other lept forward and pulled back to punch her. Serenity's instincts of ice skating kicked in and she circled to the side, but it was too late. The punch had gotten her shoulder instead of her chest like this other one aimed for. Wincing and letting a growl escape as he balance was knocked off, she staggered away and looked around for anything to use as a weapon.

Fist fighting wasn't something she did often, or really, at all. But it made her realize this other girl was completely serious about this fight. "Hey now! Don't you think we can talk about this?"

Acanthite let her momentum get away from her, and after landing the hit, she stumbled as well, skinning one knee on the concrete but managing not to fall completely. A grin was plastered across her features from the exhileration, however - and inwardly, the girl was intensly surprised at herself for enjoing having punched another girl. The shoving was all part of roller derby, but this was different.

The stakes were higher. The whole planet, she had been told.

Ignoring the gritty stinging in her knee for the moment, the Senshi of the Cataract regained her footing, and raised clenched fists again. "Talk?" she repeated. "You interested in coming over to our side?" She could hold off her next attack for a few seconds, depending on the other girl's answer.

"No! I'm protecting the planet!" She exclaimed, eyes wide for the other just suggesting it. How dare she? With a whimper, the Senshi of Poison looked around for something to use as a bat to hit the other girl. Maybe if she hit her hard enough, this dark senshi, or what have you, would leave her alone! Fighting was not high on her list of things she liked to do.

Ah! There was loose metal all around, but actually hitting the other with a metal pipe? Could Machholz bring herself to do that? Her stomach twisted in knots as she thought and just kept backing up, trying to get her distance from the other.

"You're trying to corrupt and destroy the planet, aren't you? You're not like me.." With that in mind, she pushed herself forward, getting a running start before she swung her fist back, aiming to punch the other girl straight in the face. Fear had to be pushed aside. She had to win. It was for the greater good! Right now she was so very thankful for all the ice skating training making her leg muscles strong.

"It's not yours to protect!" Acanthite called back. "Go back to your lonely little planets!"

The other girl charged her, and Acanthite's reflex was to jump out of the way, but no. She wanted to give this girl something to remember her by. She dug in her heels and made a pushing motion with both hands in front of her, as she called out, "Cataract rapids!" and the dingy concrete before her turned to water-smooth pebbles for fifteen feet straight ahead. A torrent of water rushed along the ground as well.

Whether Machholz slipped or not, Acanthite had not left herself enough time to dodge, and she braced herself and raised an arm for the incoming punch. It was good it was getting cold, because nothing but long sleeves would hide the bruise the other senshi left on her forearm; she got her own hand knocked into her nose, as well, but fortunately not hard enough to make it bleed.

"It is mine to protect, and I'll do it with my life if I have to!" She called out.

She hadn't been expecting what happened next. The floor seemed to have turned to water and she slipped and slid to her knees. With a yelp, she steadied herself on her knees one hand on the ground and she looked up at that.

She was using magic when Serenity wasn't?! How was that fair?! She screamed in aggrivation as she lunged for the other girl. She was aiming to get her arms around Acanthite's waist, push her into the ground, knock the wind out of her. If she could do that, then she'd set on beating the other girl's face in with her fists. Or.. perhaps she would jump back enough to get out of this stupid water and use her own magic! ...If she could figure out how to use it.

She tried to get away, but underestimated how quickly the other senshi could lunge. Acanthite stumbled and fell backwards, hissing through her teeth as she skinned one palm and was rattled by the impact on the concrete. As long as she had space to do so, the Senshi of the Cataract attempted to employ her heeled boots to try to keep the other girl at bay.

"Probably one of you who tore this building down with your alien magic," she growled, breathing harder with the effort of fighting now but still keeping a razor-sharp accusing edge on her tone.
