Kyrie held tightly to her sister's hand as they wove a path through the trees of the forest. It was not far to reach the crows, but the little crowling's mind felt heavy as they walked together. She was positive that they were doing the right thing to help their father, but she was feeling uncertain about her part in their grand master plan.
"I really hope this works Cae. I hate that Daddy is feeling so bad," she said softly. "I've never asked the crows to do anything before." In truth, she had barely even used her power to call them to her. She was not very certain of how strong she was or how much influence she had over her brethren just yet. But she supposed now was just as good of a time to find out as any.

She had gotten caught by her mother on the way, but slipping out after that had been easy enough, and getting to the woods easy enough on it's own.
"It will be okay, Ky." Caelia was certain of this much. And if it wasn't, well, they would think up another way ! They would find something that worked eventually.
"Do you see any of them ?" She asked, eyes combing though the trees. She'd seen a few songbirds so far, but little else.

Kyrie glanced to her sister and felt some reassurance from her encouragement. With her sister by her side, she was pretty certain that things really would be okay. She had never led her astray before and she would definitely be taking their task seriously. She had certainly been serious enough during her impromptu meeting. Her next question drew her blue eyes up to the trees above them. She stopped walking and closed her eyes to concentrate for a moment.
"I don't see them, but I feel them," she replied. Taking in a deep breath, she reached for her rarely used power and then mentally pushed it away. she sent out to call the crows, rooks, ravens, jackdaws, and magpies. Any of her kin that happened to be nearby and would be willing to help the pair of godlings.

"I don't see any." Well, at first she hadn't. Once Kyrie called, though, things became much different. Indeed, the crows came. "Ky, look !"
There were quite a few of the black birds coming, landing wherever they could and cawing, as if in inquiry. Caelia, of course, did not speak crow, but thankfully for their plan, Kyrie certainly did. "What are they saying, Ky ?"
Sometimes she did wish she could understand birds. Surely they had all sorts of fun conversations !

Kyrie opened her eyes and looked up at her sister's urging. It was a sea of black feathers and a cacophonous symphony of caws calling out to the two girls. Kyrie listened to them, then turned her attention back to her sister.
"They want to know why I have called them here. They seem like they are worried because I've never called them all like this," she replied to Cae. Reaching out, one of the old female crows hopped down from the branch above them and landed on her arm, prompting several younger ones to do the same though they landed on both her and her sister's shoulders and one on Cae's head. "How should they signal to the spirits that they should follow them?" she asked her.

Caelia might as well has gone to heaven. She had gotten close to many birds, yes, but she had never really gotten any of them to perch on her... And now ! There were so many ! The one who landed on her head simply made her laugh. The talons poked a little, but it didn't hurt, not really.
"Hmmmm." Caelia pondered. She had not honestly thought this far ahead, to be honest. She supposed that there already was a way to do this, or else the legends wouldn't be, well, legends. "Maybe if they caw really loudly ?"

Kyrie lifted her hand carefully to pet the older bird on her arm and not disturb the others on her shoulders. Her sister's suggestion was definitely a good one, though she wondered if anyone would notice a crow cawing louder than normal. Even a murder of them seeming to act in tandem. She was not sure how many people still looked for such signs and it stood to reason that their spirits might be just as blind.
"Oh! Yes! That and also maybe cawing in a pattern? Like three times or something? Three is such a strong number. What do you think of that Cae?" she asked and tilted her head a little to nuzzle one of the crows on her shoulder.

Oh, she hadn't thought about that at all ! Of course if they cawed in a pattern the spirits would notice ! "That works ! Three times sounds good, too." Numbers were powerful, she knew. Her mom had tried to explain it all to her once, but she had not honestly grasped everything.
The crow on her head seemed to be settling as if it was a nest. It made Caelia laugh.

Kyrie fluffed her feathers proudly and chortled at the sight of the crow on her sister's head getting cozy. This was what she loved about her brethren, they were certainly not afraid of much of anything. She was also very glad that her sister liked her idea so much.
"Okay. I will tell them about what we need," she nodded and glanced around at the feathered gathering. she called out calmly to them though her message set the birds a twitter. She gave a firm caw and their noise died down immediately. Here she paused and pictured the ruins of St. Kore in her mind's eye for them. She then explained to them the clever plan then turned her attention back to her sister.
"Do you think there is anything else we should tell them?" she asked her.

Caelia would listen closely, though she could not understand her sister when she talked to the crows directly. The mix of sounds was really interesting, though, and she liked to listen to it, even if she didn't really understand anything.
"Maybe tell them to be careful ? If there's bad spirits around then they should watch out." She really didn't want the crows to get hurt. She would be quite sad if that happened.

"Oh! That's a good idea Cae," Kyrie nodded in thorough agreement. She was sure they would be able to protect themselves from many mortal dangers, but she definitely was not certain about the risks when working with spirits. Petting the matron on her arm, she began to glance around at the patiently waiting birds.
With that, she took a final deep breath and looked at them all. With a final silent blessing she sent over them, she lifted her arm and the female that had first greeted her took to the sky. The signal was clear and there was a sudden whoosh of wind from all of the wings and the raucous cawing filled the forest around them.

The birds took flight then, at their goddess' command, and for a moment the sky turned black. Caelia couldn't help but stare, though she was a little sad that she had lost her new friends. She hadn't minded being a perch at all, no !
"That was awesome, Ky !" She kind of wished she could do something like that. Seeing things from the flight of birds was pretty cool, but it wasn't really anything anyone else could see or notice.

Kyrie watched with just as much awe as her sister until there were only tree branches above them. Clapping her hands as she joined in her sister's excitement, she gave a little bounce, then bent to pick up a spare black feather that had fallen to the ground. "That was awesome! I have never done anything like that before. I really hope it works. I hope they don't forget what they are supposed to do," she mused as she twirled the feather between her fingers and rose to her feet. Looking up at her sister, she felt a flood of happiness and warmth. "Thank you for coming out here with me Cae," she smiled and moved to give her sister a tight hug. "Here," she continued and held the feather out to her. "I wonder how long we will have to wait to find out if it worked."

"I don't know." Caelia would admit. Hopefully not too long - Augury was not especially renowned for her patience, after all.
"Maybe one of them will come tell you if it works ?" It seemed like a good thing to do, really.

"Oh! I should have asked one to do that. Though they are very clever, so perhaps you're right," Kyrie smiled and reached out to link her hand with her sister's. "We should head back and get to work on all of the other preparations. We can't call everyone to a ceremony that isn't put together," she smiled and tugged on her sister's hand to start leading the way back out of the forest.
