I'm in Rome, and aside from the heat, it's wonderful. As both a lapsed Catholic and a Roman history buff, my only problem is that I'm worried I won't get around to seeing everything I want to see. It's amazing to just stand on the ground where it all happened. And I do mean where it ALL HAPPENED. I mean, everywhere in Europe has a rich history (for example, the church I where I was baptised had its foundation laid in 500 AD), but Rome is just...words can't describe. Everywhere you turn is some sort of ruin or plaque reminding me just how much of western civilisation as we know it started right here under my feet. I get dizzy just thinking about it.

How incredibly nerdy am I?

There was a bit of drama earlier this month and I wasn't sure if we'd still get to do this holiday, but we're here, and I thank God for that because I really need to just put my life on hold for a few days and just geek out in arguably the most historically significant city in the world.

How has everyone else's summer been?
