Frequently Asked QuestionsGeneral QuestionsCan my characters have normal animals as pets? Yes, just keep in mind they will not receive any artwork for them. Horses, cats, normal dogs, goldfish, rocks... these are all fine! Normal animals, however, should display normal amounts of intelligence and would not be able to communicate with their humans or a Hound in any meaningful way.
Can a character have more than one Hound/Familiar? No. The binding magic between a Summoner and Hound is too powerful for more than one bond. Similarly, a familiar is also magically bound to their partner -- and though the link is not as consuming as that of a Hound's bond it is still strong enough that additional bonds are not possible.
Can anyone be a Whyst or Summoner? Yes! There doesn't seem to be any hereditary link involved with being affiliated with magic, either, and people from all walks of life have been Whysts and Aelfir, from nobles down to the poorest of men and women.
What's up with the naming rules? I wanted to call my Hound "fluffybuttmunchkins". Well that is certainly... "unique" but it doesn't quite fit what we're going for. Names are powerful things where Hell Hounds come from, and speaking the name of a Hell Hound will instantly call that specific hound up to be summoned and, also, serves to seal a bond already forged.
Okay, but what about Hounds that have other names not used on their certs, is that allowed? Nicknames are fine, yes.RoleplayingWhat if I don't want to RP? No one is required to RP in this shop. However, considering the backstory to how Hounds are summoned, it is still necessary for them to have a Summoner "In Character", even if you never RP the Summoner or the Hound. That being said we do encourage it as there are definite perks to Roleplaying!
So what are these Roleplay Perks you mentioned? Though RP is not required in the shop it is definitely encouraged! RPers are rewarded by extra cauldrons in breedings, free edits, and free customs! You can read more about the specifics in this thread.
I want to RP a human character, but I don't want them to be a Summoner. That's fine! We encourage all sorts of RP, here. There are two types of 'non-summoner' humans available to play. Normal humans, which have no magic, and Whysts who have some magic ability but also will never become summoners. Sometimes, though, a summoner (or Aelf) may be mistaken as a Whyst until they summon a hound for themselves.
If my Summoner or Hound dies in roleplay, what happens? We strongly advise you not to kill off your characters unless you are absolutely sure. You will no longer be able to do any more RP beyond that point in the character's history, and they will no longer be able to breed. ICCly, for the sake of keeping things tidy, both the Hound and the Summoner will be marked as deceased. However, it would be okay to say that a Summoner previously had a Hell Hound pup they were bonded to pass away somehow (though bear in mind such an experience would be extremely mentally traumatizing!)
Can my human characters have children and lead otherwise 'normal' lives? Yes! You are more than welcome to RP your characters as having a family. Two human characters could start a family and have children, get married, etc -- the whole gambit. Whether you decide to make those characters' children playable or not would be up to you.
Can I play a child as a Summoner? It's not entirely unheard of for a child as young as twelve to be chosen but this is extremely uncommon. Children younger than that will not be accepted. Also, keep in mind that being a child may severely limit the character from participating in certain events later on.
My character wants to bring their friends/family/significant other to the cool Caverns! Unfortunately, that won't be possible. The Cavern locks out anyone who isn't a summoner, and will even lock itself out from a summoner if they are in the company of non-summoners. It's also important to note that when a summoner is brought to the Cavern for the summoning, itself, no one else will be allowed inside (i.e they will be alone). How does magic work in this world? This is answered in more detail in "The Use of Magic" thread, but, essentially, summoners have some slight magic abilities of their own, and hounds are actually quite powerful -- though they still have their limits. Whysts can also use some slight magic.
So what happens if a summoner or their hound is killed? Because their bond is so strong, if one party is killed the other will usually die soon after. However, if the Hell Hound is still a puppy, and thus the bond is not very strong yet, it is possible for the other to survive. Luckily, however, Hell Hounds are quite tough creatures and it's not easy to kill one! Still, the action is a permanent one once made and it's recommended you not do it. Dead hounds cannot be roleplayed or bred!If you have any additional questions that are not covered here, please ask in-thread or PM the mule!
