"Lem, Lem, LemLemLem," Honning sang her brother's nickname as she made her way back from the sandy ground where the reavers sparred day in and day out. Like any good freeborn female, she loved to watch them, but she felt no particular urge to join them. She knew she'd be clobbered.
"Where are you Lem?" she called, still using that sing-song voice. "I have exciting news."
It was exciting news for her, anyway. It probably wouldn't make that much difference to her brother, but she had to tell someone and she didn't think that her sister would approve. She was certain there were reasons why her father hadn't told both of his daughters about their new lessons at the same time and she wanted to believe they had to do with her being singled out specially. Daffyd didn't often do that with his daughters. Mostly he ignored them completely.Shia bean Daffyd told her she'd be learning to hunt from one of the thralls. I figured it'd be up to you whether Lem already knew that or not.

"What?" Lemminkäinen hissed. The spike of his fur along the spine was no real cause for alarm, not from a sibling who knew well of his temperament and just how to handle it. Despite its ineffectiveness, the hairs remained stiff the closer she got.
Honning's scent carried long before her voice had, and if he had been more inclined to move from his place of brooding Lems might have up and abandoned the small clearing. Avoided her, as he had been doing with all three of his sisters for quite some time. Yet, the male chose to remain where he was, smack dab in the middle of Honning's path, deepening his hunch, flattening his ears, and tightening the coil of his tail around a thigh. With every shift he made, clouds of dust would float from his pale form. While his throat and chest vibrated from low growls, sand fell to the earth in droves.
Lemminkäinen was covered in dirt. Again. The sort that Honning would be awfully familiar with in all of her Reaver watching. It wasn't long after his sister had taken off to monitor training sessions that he ended up on the sidelines as well. Watching, at first, seemed to sate enough of his curiosity. But too soon did interest turn into action, and unlike Honning who hesitated to throw herself into the fray, Lems pushed the line of scrimmage further and further until he was within it. Desperate to join their ranks... or more likely, simply to get his paws dirty.
Typically, it didn't end very well. The adults had little patience for rambunctious youths, and they would shove him off with a few parting words. Not even a pity spar to keep him off their backs... To put things politely.
"What do you want?" He spat again, turning only enough over a shoulder to reveal his snarl.Princess_Feylin We can say Daffyd informed him of this, and as soon as Honning fills him in he'll just kind of... belittle her. A little bit.

"I have exciting news," she told him again, wondering if men were universally hard of hearing, or just the men in her family. She hadn't asked her mother about it because it always slipped her mind, but she would one day. Naja knew a lot about everything, and would definitely know the answer to an easy question like that.
"You're so grouchy. You should try smiling more," Honning remarked as a nonsequiter.
Her brother wasn't always nice, but he was her brother and since he looked really out of sorts it was the least she could to try to cheer him up. Though, now that she thought about it, her news might not actually cheer him up very much since it meant she would get to see what was beyond the borders of the pride before he did. At least that's what she thought it meant.
"My news can wait though. Were you sparring?"

A quick sneer coupled with the clack of his teeth said all that needed to be, in light of Hon's observation. He was not one for softer, kinder actions. Neither did he have the capacity to front them... as unfortunate as it was for his siblings to endure.
Lem let a leg slide out from under him and turned further, revealing more of the countenance that leered beneath the sandy surface. A heated temper outweighed curiosity, the failed attempt at sparring a cut he had yet to overcome, and with this baggage the male shrugged his shoulders sharply and rolled his eyes.
"No. Dummies won't let me." His tail moved wildly behind him, while his claws dug deep into the earth. "They didn't even give me a chance." Princess_Feylin So sorry for the delay ;;

Hon was unbothered by Lem's toothy display of temper. She had teeth, too, as she reminded him with a grin that wasn't entirely nonthreatening. Just because she wasn't snarling didn't mean she wouldn't take a bite out of his butt if he didn't treat her well. Their father may not have much of an appreciation for females, but their mother was a strong lioness and Hon took her cues from her.
"Well, they're stupid," Hon said loyally. She guessed that she would have had more of a problem getting people to spar with her than he did, but she didn't really want people sparring with her. Not seriously the way Lem might. She had no plans to be a mighty warrior. Just a fierce homemaker who could keep her menfolk in line.
She did her best to look serious and like she was taking Lem's problem seriously, but her mind was still fixated on her own good news and it probably showed: her tail was lashing and her ears were twitching with barely-contained excitement. She was going to go hunting outside the pride! It would be an adventure and she couldn't wait.Shia bean No need to apologize. Real life happens and it sounds like you've been having a rough time of it.

Hon's retort earned a solid nod and a muttered, "Yeah." From there Lem exchanged a smug look from his paws to the female and back again, building a mound from the dirt he tore into while his mind gave to wandering off topic.
The spitfire gals of his family were complex, gritty, and subconsciously a source of great curiosity despite strong, outward disapproval. Lem enjoyed the battering he gave them, and could find it somewhere in him to admit that the return wasn't all that bad either. The female in general was a strange and sensual creature, provoking a mixture of sensations from protection to attraction... all of which sat ill with the growing male.
Still, or perhaps due to this, his siblings company in particular made him antsy. Unless on his terms, Lem preferred they all keep their distance... Which brought him back to a present state of mind, Hon's bottling of emotions apparent, and making Lem uneasy. That's right, she had news.
"So?" He snapped from his daze and found his footing all in one go. At last upright, a rough shake of his pelt would send dust, sand, and dirt flying within the pairs vicinity, not at all fazing the male even after he settled, coughing up clouds of debris that had gathered in his throat. Princess_Feylin Yeah, it's been rough to say the least. Thanks a bunch for understanding. smile

Hon sneezed delicately at the debris Lem stirred up, but that wasn't enough. Two more sneezes followed, and these were significantly less delicate and ladylike. As she sniffed and tried to blink her eyes clear the set of her ears made it clear she was annoyed with Lem.
"So!" she replied with a great deal more enthusiasm once her nostrils were clear. "Da says I can go out hunting with one of the thralls."
Ordinarily that decision probably ought to have been up to the cubs' mother, but Daffyd had been insistent and Naja hadn't opposed him. As far as Hon knew, Naja hadn't even asked why Daffyd only wanted one of his daughters to go on the outing. Hon didn't know, either, and she hadn't asked. She was too thrilled with the upcoming adventure.
"Pretty cool, huh? I'm going to be a killer soon!" She looked at things a little strangely sometimes. She didn't want to be a warrior, but the death that came at the end of a hunt seemed pretty exciting and amazing to he.Shia bean No problem. Any time you need a break, it's cool. These are pixel lions.

"Da says a lot of things." Lem countered gruffly, although the reveal of a toothy grin seemed to negate the feel of resentment.
For the boy vaguely recalled the mentioning of it, but at the time had given the insight no more then a dismissive chuckle. Lem had accepted his father's trust with such information, and like a good little son had forgotten to spoil the news for his sibling sooner. Once the memory clicked, his grin seemed to fade.
He knew better then to think Hon not interested in Daffyd's offer, but had hoped to ruin the significance of the moment a father revealed such things to their daughter. Still, now that all had come to surface, there remained a chance to squander her excitement yet; if the boy could manage it. Hon was often on to his schemes far sooner then the rest, which made riling her all the more difficult.
He would have to get creative. Or in Lemman's laymen's terms, lie through his teeth.
He padded forward along the dirt path between them and circled the tawny lioness slowly.
"It's a good place to start off, I guess. For a girl, anyway."

Some of Hon's exuberance left her as Lem pointed out that very true fact about their father. He did say a lot of things, and while many of them were mean, the ones that weren't mean, particularly when they took the form of promises, only rarely turned out to be true. She had been doing her best not to think of the very real possibility that her father did not mean what he had said, or had only meant it at the time, but would never actually follow through on it. Experience had taught her that in it was unwise to remind him of broken promises, so if Lem was right and this was just something Da had said and then forgotten about, she couldn't even bring it up.
She held her ground against her brother's circling, which was probably intended to put her on edge. She was confident enough that he wouldn't hurt her that it was not tremendously difficult to hold still, but it went against the grain as a Stormborn to allow anyone who could hurt her occupy a position from whence they might. But then came the clincher, Lem's dismissal of her news. Sure, dismissal meant that he was entertaining the possibility that it might actually come to pass, but it was just so like him to be a nasty spoilsport.
"Why do you always have to be so nasty? Can't you just be nice for once? It probably wouldn't kill you," she snarled, stalking away. Before she left him completely alone, Hon turned and hissed over her shoulder, "Not that I'd be sorry if it did."
