From the top of her apartment building, Medea looked over the city. She studied the roads she walked to class. The city shined bright and yellow like a giant light bulb against the nighttime sky, and she thought enough light would reduce its scariness, but then, she never patrolled on the streets surrounding her apartment. She worried she couldn't: She didn't know how civilians would react, so it seemed safer to stay out of the spotlight. She smiled, though, upon recalling when she ducked behind Cybele during one of her first patrols. Dogs were scary! Especially yippy ones.
Good times.
But now she wasn't sure about anything. Her Negaverse run-ins taught her how little she knew about fighting, magic, factions... She still worked on improving her Senshi sense, which seemed innate for most. Like all overly self-analytical neurotics, she knew its weakness stemmed from reluctance to trust herself, but how could she gain some confidence?
Certainly not through battle.
I wonder what's on the other side...
She sighed and looked to the sky just in time to see a shooting star.
She closed her eyes. Make a wish...

Remarque did not make a habit of frequenting rooftops, though desperate times called for desperate measures. Earlier in the evening he'd been hunting a wraith—a strange thing, that looked as though it were covered with abnormal growths. He'd lost sight of it shortly after spotting it in the park; it looked as though it had been gathering some energy though wasn't quite solid yet. It should have gone back through the mirror to drop off what energy it had, but twice he caught it chasing after new targets.
Desperate to find it before it picked the wrong person to sap energy from, he'd worked his way to the rooftops of Destiny City to see if it would give him an advantage.
It didn't, but—then again. As soon as he sensed a senshi aura he couldn't help but have his interest skewed.
There were not as many mirrors up here as there should have been; he was not a fan of heights, but for a senshi—a basic senshi—he was willing to make a few long jumps.
He felt her a short while before he spotted her, but the moon wasn't exactly serving as it's usual spotlight self now that a wall of clouds had rolled in. Remarque almost even ran right by the senshi, narrowly managing to skid to a stop on the roof just a few feet away from her.
"Oh," he said, surprise hidden well enough. "Didn't see you there. You're not planning on jumping or something, are you?" the Dark Mirror Senshi asked, casually brushing down his outfit as he walked over.

"Hmm?" Medea's eyes flashed open and she faced the man with golden, flowing hair. His off-ness felt Aurora's, so was he...Dark Mirror? Many warned her against the Mirror People, but her previous encounter ended with tears and a friendship, so why not approach this one with trust and kindness as well? Shaking off her melancholy, she smiled.
"Why hello there!" She laughed. "Most certainly not! Just enjoying the view~" As she approached the stranger, she realized he felt pretty strong! Hopefully he didn't have anything against White Moon Senshi, or he could surely destroy her. Maybe if she played nice, he would feel less inclined to tear out her soul? Or worse? "You're not here to kill me, right?"
It sounded blunt, but why not make sure?

Remarque tilted his head to the side. "Kill you?" he repeated, as though he thought she was quite crazy. "Now why would I want to do a thing like that? …You've had too many run ins with the Negaverse if you think everyone is out for blood. No, I'm just here for conversation. Saw you standing there and wanted to make sure you weren't in any sort of trouble. I've known a lot of White Moon Senshi who have been put in precarious situations by their Court. Just wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help."
His lies blended easily into conversation; it would have been difficult to tell the truth from lies when either fell from his lips. He seemed fairly passive, however—and he was honest enough when he said he wasn't looking to hurt her.
Sometimes accidents happened, though.
He extended a hand, friendly enough, and flashed one of his practiced grins. He liked to charm whenever he could—especially in front of a White Moon Senshi. "Remarque," he introduced. "Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Smirking, she narrowed her eyes and shook his hand. "Okay, but from what I hear your...group...isn't exactly kind toward Senshi." He seemed confused, but she detected an edge. Perhaps he feigned that innocence to glean information from her or learn how much she knew of his alliance. If so, whoops. If not, then she would consider his claim. She studied the strings on his outfit and laughed. "Puppetry, not suspicious at all, my friend! Certainly not as forward as manipulation, but something I should be aware of?"
Did he practice PR like the first agent of Chaos she met? Did he aim to come off as clever or suave or kind? Considering this, she said, "I'm Medea. Senshi of Enchantment."
He gave his name and sphere. She gave hers. They were equal.
Save for his formidable waves of energy. It distracted her a bit, but she focused on Remarque. She must have seemed so weak to him, and if he wanted to kill Senshi, why didn't he attack someone as inexperienced as her?
She returned to her conclusion that he must have wanted something else, and she debated mentioning Aurora, and how she confessed to her duty to fight Senshi, but afraid of his reaction, Medea bit her tongue.
"So tell me, what does Dark Mirror exactly mean?"

"Oh, please. You give me too much credit. Manipulation is such a negative thing to associate with someone who is only interested in conversing, don't you think? You give me too much credit. As for whatever you've been hearing," he shrugged nonchalantly. "It's mistruth. The Dark Mirror Senshi is nothing but kind to senshi. Why would we hurt thing? We're senshi, too."
As if it wasn't obvious enough. The only thing that really separated the two was that the Dark Mirror Senshi just so happened to be on the right side of this war. There was still time for the others to be saved, though. If only they could come to understand.
"And, as senshi, I suppose I should say it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Medea. It's nice to see a new face. Though, I don't know whether to be disappointed that the White Moon has made little effort to educate you on that of the Dark Mirror, though considering you already seem misinformed, perhaps it's best I have the opportunity. Dark Mirror Senshi are, as I've said, first and foremost—senshi. We are of this planet, though our power comes from far away. Beyond the mirror, if you will. A realm you'll probably never experience." A realm he'd probably never experience.
"Which is where we draw our differences. You have a homeworld, Medea. Somewhere up in the sky. A planet that was once under your protection and has since been destroyed. A planet that would be thriving had the White Moon not drawn the universe into chaos. And yet, as a White Moon senshi as you are, you are still aligned with the woman responsible for such destruction. The Dark Mirror Senshi is liberated of that. We have only desire to save you from repeating the same mistakes of the past. To protect this planet. To make a utopia of our own—a safe place, from all this war. Somewhere to start fresh and correct the errors of the past."

"Remarque, you are very eloquent." She stepped past him. "And those are some arguments, but..." She glanced at him from over her shoulder. Another star shot across the sky. She smiled. "As much as I love peace, and I love peace, how do you mean to achieve it?"
She felt so heavy. Why did she feel heavy? He seemed approachable. Maybe she couldn't shake Aurora's words. In the back of her mind, she knew the possibility of being thrown off the roof.
Could she stand to be blunt? She wanted answers. Maybe he could provide her with the middle ground between the Negaverse and White Moon Court she dreamt of.
"Hmm..." She circled around him and met his gaze. "You're not the first Dark Mirror Senshi I've met, you know." She narrowed her gaze but her smile remained. "I want to like you--you seem very kind--and I want reason to believe you wouldn't harm your allies, but..." She took a deep breath and glanced at the skies. Her shoulders slumped. "I heard something happened to your souls...?"
What did Aurora mean when she mentioned that?
What could they possibly have done to her?

Medea was certainly jumping right into the good questions; Remarque listened and assessed, and though a part of him very much wanted to argue that whoever had told her such things was wrong, he kept his cool about him and tried to answer all her questions without letting much emotion seep in.
"You seem like a smart girl," he started; she was wise to be curious. "I intend to attain peace through peace. Only barbarians would feel the need to extend wisdom through violence. And while there are many things affected in this wars, our souls are probably not what you think. I am the same person I have always been. I was born in Destiny City, raised here. The day I went from a normal civilian to Sailor Remarque, nothing changed. I have the same hobbies, the same traits. The same face. The same thoughts and feelings."
To be honest, he didn't know much about their souls changing. He had always felt the same. Perhaps if he had started out as a White Moon senshi then things would be different, but that certainly wasn't something he was ever going to pine for. "I suppose it would depend on what you consider a 'soul', though. The only thing that makes us so different is the fact that my power comes from a universe not quite like this one. We are the same in every way but for that."

"Thank you, but Remarque..." She frowned. This sadness. Why couldn't she shake it? She wanted to please Remarque--not just for her safety but to let him know they were okay--that she wouldn't him or anyone else unless they hurt an innocent like Lenka. "Isn't your soul this?" She pressed a hand to the center of his chest.
If only she could tell him about Aurora, she would know his truthfulness by his expression, but it could have enticed him to fight, and it would break her secret friendship with the Senshi of Romance. She couldn't have that. Not only did Aurora provide her with useful insight, but she made Medea laugh and smile and filled her heart with the warm fuzzies of pink and girly friendships.
Regardless, knowledge protected those who couldn't fight their way through war.
Yet, more than knowledge, she craved peace--to know they could mend bridges between mirrors and captains and White Moon Senshi.
Could she believe him, though? He seemed calm enough...
She withdrew her hand.
"Will there ever come a day when all of us--the Dark Mirror Senshi, the White Moon Senshi, the Negaverse--forgive each other and move on?"

Remarque had watched her hand carefully, always a bit on edge when any new senshi came too close, but she retracted her hand and seemed innocent enough. "Do not take pity on the Dark Mirror Senshi. I have found no dissatisfaction in my existence. I'm happier now than I ever was before. I wouldn't change anything."
Well. He would change a few things. Starting with how few White Moon Senshi had opened their eyes and become aware of their unhappiness within their own ranks. "We may be different, though fighting is not at the top of our agenda. We fight only when we must."
Or, at least, they should. He couldn't speak for all members of the court, but hurting—killing others, at the very least—had never been a priority for him. He enjoyed a good fight, though he had tamed his lust for battle in favor for discussion. He wanted to save the senshi, not destroy them.
Though, he might have had quite a bit more luck if things were different.
"At this point in time, I don't know who is still fighting with who. The Negaverse and Senshi have been at this far longer than the Dark Mirror Court. They're the one with the grudges. We just sit on the side lines and hope to bring clarity to anyone willing to listen. If you could find a way to convince everyone to forgive each other though," he shrugged. "Feel free to try. I doubt you will have success. Everyone seems stuck in their ways. But the Dark Mirror Court does not need battle to thrive. We've our own goals. I'll see to it that they're achieved. When the senshi and Negaverse destroy this planet, we'll have our own."

Remarque the puppet master, where would you go? How would you force peace between Chaos and Order? Medea drifted past him, dreaming of a world without Senshi, where she and Remarque could play with puppets and sparkles, and the agents of the Negaverse would join her for tea and help her with her hair, or the Senshi could take him out for movies. She smiled. "You're very good Remarque." She nodded. "This is a good way, but I'm cautious." She clasped her hands behind her back. "I'm not totally sure why the Senshi hope to eradicate you if you only offer peace." The stars seemed brighter. "But I will find out on my terms and reach my decision. For now--" She faced him. "--consider this an alliance."
She approached.
"I won't relinquish my Court ties." How did he reach his conclusion that the world would burn under their civil war? Did the Dark Moon Court plan to perish with it? How much could thy control from the sidelines. "But I won't hurt you either."
The breeze lifted her ribbons.
"Is this okay?"

An alliance?
…Well, it was better than nothing. He'd take it.
"Of course," he said, extending a hand as if shaking on the deal would legitimize it.
"The Dark Mirror Court, as a whole, has good intentions. But there are some a bit more…overzealous towards our cause. If every you find yourself in any sort of trouble with one of them, tell them to contact me. I'll see to it that they leave you be. Just don't hold anything against them, if you can. This war has been harder on some than others. Some forget that not every White Moon Senshi wants to eradicate them."

"I'm glad we don't have to fight." Medea shook. Hand-touch. Necessary, yes, but lovely still. She smiled. The warm one. The kind and earnest one. She said, "Thank you, Remarque." She released. "You're really not so bad, I guess." She shrugged. "It seems strange, though, that so many Senshi fear you, since my run-ins with Mirror Senshi have been quite...civil."
She laughed.
"You're right." She brushed back a strand of hair. "Some of us just want to survive."
It would be nice to not worry about breaking or fading or drowning between bruised ribs and cries for help. One day. Maybe. If she grew stronger. If she lived. Her brow furrowed with concern.

Remarque nodded. He wanted so much more than to just survive. But he'd take what he could get and if the concept of survival would unite him and Medea, he'd take it.
"People fear what they don't understand. The Dark Mirror Court is abnormal, even amongst those who are already considered such. There are too few who ask questions instead of attack, so I appreciate this conversation. There will come a day when the Dark Mirror Court will be understood. Hopefully soon, though," he shrugged. It was a far off dream, at best.
"One step at a time is enough." For now.
He smiled, in an attempt to remain friendly. "Though, I could probably talk about it all night. I don't want to keep you up, though. But I would certainly like to meet again. It's not often I get to have such a wonderful evening."

"Of course, my dear." She laughed. "Thank you for chatting with me and not ripping my guts out or anything." She nodded. "See you soon!" Suddenly, she dashed toward the edge of the rooftop and leapt, and in that moment, the wind pushed back her hair and filled her lungs and her skirt and ribbons ruffled and her tiara gleamed, and everything felt perfect, like they didn't have to fight anymore.
She smiled.
She left behind golden-haired Remarque. Remarque with ocean-blue eyes. Remarque who gave her hope that they could end this war without blood. All good stemmed from Remarque--pushed her farther into the dark.Kyuseisha no Hikari Ending that is not ominous at all...
