Iteri responded to the goddess with a grunt and a shrug of his shuolders. He didn't really understand all the historical, philosophical mumbo-jumbo. All he knew was that doing things for the goddesses gave him power and that was good enough for him. So when she offered him a gift, he received it happily and opened it as quick as possible; like a kid at Christmas. His reaction, when he found it empty, was much the same and he shook the bag, wondering it perhaps he was just missing something.

Nothing came out and her explanation received a sigh from him. What kind of Goddess was she? He took the scissors, weighing them in his hands before giving a nod in agreement. What other choice did he have? He wanted a gift. He shuffled off to the doors, stepping into the second one. It resembled the spiral mark on his left arm.

Once inside, he paused and tilted his head. People were calling to him; cheering and yelling. Smiling faces flashed past him; all smiles for him. All happy to see him. But the name they call is not his. It is familiar; but not his. As quickly as they came, the faces disappear and he blinked a few times until the after shadow was gone. The door shut behind him and he was left in darkness; darkness that irritated him and had him cursing under his breath. His curses were more audible when he bumped into the crate. He stopped and stepped back, trying to make out what it is. It was then he hears the sound of the thudding and looks up to see the arm waving around.

He reached out and grabbed the shape, only to find it without solid form except for old fabric that slipped between his fingers into the darkness of the crate. "Hello?" He leaned in closely and in the silence that came without an answer he heard it. It was quiet and he leaned in closer to confirm his suspicions. His prize was waiting for him.

Iteri wasted no time in getting to work. Scissors in hand, he cut away the outer layer of fabric. There is a second layer and it's thicker than the first but his scissors are sharp and he makes quick work cutting them away. Strings have tied his heart down and one by one they are snipped away until his prize is revealed. He removed it, looking at it with a grin on his face.

You are working when she arrives shirtless and covered in a sheen of sweat. It's hot in your workshop and while you've gotten used to it; there are some days when it gets to you. Today is one of those days. She clears her throat and when you look up she is smiling as brightly as the sun. It rises your temperature - in a good way and you feel your heart jump and your breath hitch in your throat.

Her lips are moving and she's mouthing something at you but you can't hear the words. She makes a face and waves a hand in front of your face, laughing when you finally snap out of it.

"Thought I'd lost you there," she says; the smile returning.

You stammer and wipe your hands on your apron, placing your tools aside. "Sorry. It's been a long day. What can I do for you?"

She gives you instructions but you aren't really paying attention. You're remembering every detail of her; the colour of her hair and her eyes. The shape of her lips and the way her skin shines in the sunlight. Her small frame that's delicate with a hint of muscle. She knows her way around a battle field and you like that.

"Whose name am I putting this under?" You don't need her name to remember her, but you want to know it just the same.

"Aldis." Aldis. Aldis. Aldis. You say the name over and over in your mind; putting it to memory.

"I'll be off then," she says, that same odd look on her face. She's caught you again and this time she knows it. She seems a little sheepish now and you can't help but grin.

"Right. Sorry. I'll see you around." She's turned to walk away at this point but she looks over her shoulder and flashes you that smile again.

"I hope so."

Iteri wasn't entirely sure when he started walking and he wasn't entirely sure what that had been. A memory? A vision? A dream? It felt real; so familiar and so right. He walked along, feet slipping on the floor that for some reason was becoming slippery. A dead end and he pursed his lips, turning around. In the distance, he hears a sound similar to footsteps. Is someone else here with him? He continued moving, the water around him rising; cold enough to make him shiver.

'Please give it back.'

He turned in the direction of the voice but could not see anything so continued on. The water was deep and he couldn't touch the floor anymore. It was too dark ahead to reveal anything and he was growing tired. He turned and continued back the way he came.

The sound of the voice should have been a clue; it's proximity. By the time he knew what was happening, hands were pushing him beneath the surface of the water. He struggled, to no avail. He could feel himself slipping. All he could do was look into those eyes - those haunting, lifeless eyes.

"I love you," your heart skips a beat and she leans into you, a little shy. Her cheeks are flushed and you place your hand under her chin, tilting her head up to look at you.

You say nothing for what seems like the longest time and she begins to fidget. You close the space between the two of you and capture her lips in a fervent kiss. You seperate and kiss the top of her head, pulling her into your arms. "I've loved you from the moment I saw you, Aldis," you whisper against her hair, breathing in the floral scent. "I don't know what I'd do without you."

He snapped out of it, struggling and squirming for breath. Those eyes look into his and he realises who this is. He also realises what he must do. The scissors found their mark and she shrieked and disappeared, along with the water. He choked and coughed, sputtering up gunk that tastes so bad he emptied the contents of his stomach.

Collapsed on the floor, he rolled onto his back, hands stretched out in front of his eyes. The faces don't appear but the eyes are burned into his mind.

Aldis..

The name echoed in his mind and he looked into the distance, searching for her even though he knows she's gone. Was it really her? Had he killed her twice? Hands cover his face and he allows himself time to cry. When he's finished; when he's mourned enough, he rises and makes his way to the exit. It would be best to put this behind him.
