Over the course of the past few weeks, there had been a shadow in Orpheus' life that would not leave him alone. It was a senshi's best friend, and enemy to the common dog. It was a simple corrupt guardian cat, and while normally this dark mirror senshi would attempt to experiment on these talking wonders, tonight was different. This corrupt guardian cat couldn't have irritated Orpheus more than it possible did tonight.

With a voice worse than any nagging mother, it called out to the senshi.

"Yo yo yo, you're making my job so hard to dooooo," it whined and whined until finally the senshi of charm stopped.

"Normally I would find it fascinating that a cat could talk but seriously I would love nothing more than your silence," groaned the voice of Sailor Orpheus.

And there it was, silence, at least for a moment.

"So, I'm going to take this as a good sign. You know, I have places to go and senshi to upgrade. You're not the only senshi in this city!"

With an incredibly annoyed sigh, Orpheus could do nothing but shake his head.

"GO GIVE THEM YOUR HELP THEN, I DO NOT WANT YOURS," he said, kicking gravel at the cat in frustration. The rocks didn't land anywhere near the cat but the guardian cat, used to the chaos of the city, puffed up and hissed protectively.

If the auras hadn't been enough to catch Remarque's attention, the commotion would have been. Remarque had travelled in at just the right time to catch the tail end of the conversation—and a Dark Mirror Senshi? How could he not poke in?

He stepped from around the corner to make contact, though couldn't help but scoff when he saw who it was. "Orpheus," he greeted, albeit smugly. He had not forgotten—and would not soon forget—their last meeting. "…Seems you haven't gotten out of the habit of creating trouble for everyone, hmm? What sort of mess have you gotten into this time?"

He seemed quite interested in whatever it was that Orpheus was up to these days; while Remarque took a fine enough interest in any Dark Mirror Senshi, Orpheus was of particular interest given his lack of interest in the Court. It fascinated him, that someone tied to the Court as he was could hate it so much. Whatever problem Orpheus had, Remarque wanted to fix it. Orpheus was passionate, at least with anger. He just needed to direct it at something better than the Court itself.

In the back of Sailor Orpheus' head, he knew doom was coming. It was hard to avoid that signal in his head that screamed Dark Mirror Senshi. However, he ignored it in lieu of fighting for his life against the guardian cat that would not leave him alone. Unfortunately, it was his very attempts to ring his life away from the attempts of the cat that he found himself listening to his name being called out by probably Remarque. Besides, Ares herself appearing behind him, this couldn't get any worse.

"I didn't start this," he shrugged, turning and beginning to walk away.

Beside his feet, the corrupted guardian cat followed him before turning to Remarque with a frown. "ALL I WANT TO DO IS UPGRADE HIM. ARE YOU ALL THIS DIFFICULT?" The guardian cat yelled with a sigh. "Of course not. Help me knock of sense into your comrade!"

Of course, hearing the word comrade, Sailor Orpheus stopped and turned.

"Watch your tongue cat. There is no comradery here."

"Oh, I think there's plenty," Remarque said, hands sliding into the discretely placed pockets on his outfit. He followed Orpheus. "After all, I'm only here to make sure you succeed. Speaking of, you should probably take the cat's offer. You know that you'll never grow stronger if you don't, right? I'd hate for you to remain on the bottom of the food chain forever. You've certainly been there for long enough, haven't you?" he asked, keeping a bit of a distance (though certainly not as much as he probably should have) as he trailed after the male.

While he cared little for cats, his own upgrades had been painless; it was a shame Lyssa wasn't here to help. No doubt she could encourage him to take the damned upgrade—even if only to get her off his back.

Orpheus had continued to walk away but hearing the steps of Remarque behind him followed by his words made him stop. His fists tightened and slowly Orpheus exhaled out in a deep breath. It was a sigh, a very heavy sigh. He went to take a step forward again but he paused. He didn't turn around this time but his words came out as cold as ice.

"You can quit the older brother act. You don't know who I am or what I want and you have no right to tell me what to do. I don't want this life."

The words were probably ironic and difficult to believe when he was standing here as Sailor Orpheus. He didn't have to power up yet here he was. These were honest truths but he wasn't powered up for himself. This was Zia's fault, to begin with and tonight, and he couldn't simply walk away from that despite his attempts. However, he could stop any deeper ties to the Dark Mirror Court from happening. That was the plan at least.

"He's stubborn, don't give up on him! We have to do whatever it takes to get him to see the truth." The corrupt guardian cat chimed in quietly to the Dark Mirror Senshi of Puppetry.

"Cat, you are way out of your league," Remarque scoffed, voice still low. "Just do whatever business you had and be gone. Get his pen, upgrade it, whatever means you need. I'll take care of the rest."

He had little faith that there was ever going to be any convincing Orpheus that the Dark Mirror Court was a good home for him; the senshi seemed too blinded by his own anguish to realize the potential he had. "Older brother act? What, you don't like someone looking out after you, just looking out for your best interests? …I mean, I'll admit. I know very little about you. You've done a fine job of distancing yourself from the Court. For whatever reason. You're too self-loathing for me to think it was just because you're an introvert or something. I don't quite understand why you insist on making such a fuss. Do you think us enemies or something? Or are you just unhappy without some sort of conflict in your life?"

Remarque still seemed calm; he remembered how much trouble Orpheus had been last time though he seemed behaved enough to be on speaking terms. For now. "I can't imagine why you'd be powered up if you weren't looking for trouble."

The cat definitely hissed at Remarque. It would figure senshi would make guardian cats do all the real work! Hmph! How was he going to get the pen? The guardian cat seemed to consider the possibilities and all of them ended up with a boot in his face. He couldn't simply walk away though, not when his mark was right there! He had duties to do and other charges to look after but if he couldn't even deal with one little insignificant senshi how was he going to call himself a guardian cat?

"Hey Sailor Orpheus! I know you really want me gone but please don't use your henshin pen to banish me. I know it may seem insignificant to you but that s**t hurts! If you just let me help you, I'll be... on... my... way," he said as the last part drew out in spaces as he got closer to the senshi. He suspected a boot was in his near future but when all else failed, lie your a** off!

Sailor Orpheus did exactly what the guardian cat wanted, taking his pen out. He held it tightly at first near his chest when he first drew it out, considering how and if the pen really could hurt the guardian cat, until Remarque distracted him with his existence. Amber eyes stared through shades with disgust as Remarque spoke. He didn't know Remarque but he didn't need to. It didn't make it right but simply being a Dark Mirror Senshi made him want to hate him. It made him want to hate himself too but it was much easier to focus rage toward others and loathing toward himself.

"You guys stole my life!" He snapped back, his arms angrily sliding to his side in a backward motion. It was that moment that the guardian cat took his chance, attacking Orpheus and stealing the pen out of his hand. Claiming his prize, the guardian cat tried to move back but in fact met the boot on Orpheus' foot first. However, the guardian cat didn't let go of the pen and instead rolled along the pavement until there was enough distance between them that he was able to upgrade the pen.

"YOU SUCK," the guardian cat yelled, spitting the pen out in the process. It was nothing short of a goodbye because after that the guardian cat left with a small limp.

"You better ******** leave for good," he growled as he gathered his pen up and turned his attention back to Remarque. He didn't want this. He didn't want to find a guardian cat or another senshi from his abandoned court. He just wanted to find Zia. She hadn't come home and he was worried sick. He knew that she did stupid stuff at night and he was worried she finally had bit the dust. It wouldn't have been outrageous for a civilian like her to end up with her starseed ripped out of her chest. His worry for her was what was currently keeping his sanity intact and his feet not in Remarque's face.

"We are enemies. I hate your guts for the simple reason when you power up you associate yourself with Ares so if you can just step aside I have places to be that don't involve looking at your ugly face."

"It's cute," Remarque said, not at all fazed by Orpheus' words. He had watched where the cat limped off and, no professional of cat methods, assumed it had been successful. "How you presume to know so much about me. I mean, if we're going to get into crude insults, you're certainly one to talk about an ugly face. But we're grown men, are we not? Why resort to such petty insults? I'm sure you could be much more creative."

He paused, seemed as though he were considering something, and then scoffed. "Though, probably not. You're stuck on old ideals and arguments. What makes you think I associate with Ares any more than you? Need I remind you that you've powered up, yourself? I haven't seen Ares in quite some time. I power up for myself. My own reasons. She has nothing to do with anything." Anymore.

"Now. Are you so sure you want to label yourself my enemy? I am not so kind to my enemies, Orpheus."

"Why get creative when the truth does the job?" He said rather casually, tossing his head back and forth as if he was bored.

There was truth to Remarque's words but Orpheus wouldn't ever want to admit it. With Ares out of the picture, what made him any different if he powered up too? If they weren't serving Ares, and he wasn't serving Ares, where was there a difference here? Orpheus' expression was distinctly different than the expressions he normally wore, regret and a bit of uncertainty filling the most of it in the place of anger. His body's weight shifted from one side to the other as he stood there biting his own tongue.

What made them so different was Jett still had a mother. Jett still had a family. Jett still had a life. All of Cameron's life, all his work, and even his name had been taken away from him because of Ares. Whether Ares was still around or not could not erase the wrong that had been done to him. Maybe he had no reason to hate the members when they no longer served Ares but he refused to simply forget everything that happened.

"You'd never understand. This faction has done nothing but take the precious things in my life away from me."

"Presumptuous of you to assume something like that, hmm?"

Remarque would never claim to understand exactly what it was like, though he liked to think his imagination served him well. On some distant level, he could imagine what it was like. He preached it often enough. Leave one life behind and start another.

Orpheus' had been forcibly taken from him. He had been given no warning. He'd lost everything he'd worked for. Had to start entirely fresh—devoid of merit or achievements. Remarque wasn't sure if he could have done it.

He'd worked too hard to get where he was today to just comfortably lose everything. "What happened was more than unfortunate. I don't deny that. Ares should have been more responsible. It wasn't fair to take that from you. But blame her, not the Court. And, in case you haven't noticed, it isn't exactly like she's around to lead it. You could go in any direction you wanted without her here. Hell, maybe you could even make the Court your own. Well. If you were stronger, but."

He shrugged. "I would have thought you'd be happy with her gone."

"No, unless you suddenly lose everything because of Ares' court then I'm going to have to insist what I said was completely accurate. If you think you understand without losing everything then you're the presumptuous one here."

If only he knew what Remarque was thinking. It's probably better he didn't.

"I have a broad range of emotions," he said completely deadpan with all the ironies. "I'll have you know I am more than happy to hear she's gone. It doesn't change how I feel about things already in motion though and even with her here I was more than willing to go in whatever direction I wanted. Don't make me laugh though. I wouldn't take the b***h's left overs even if you paid me to."

He murmured something, and shifted his weight.

"I'm not weak."

Remarque had been listening carefully. He didn't miss the last few words.

"Not weak?" he challenged, unable to suppress a scoff. "Well, you certainly aren't strong. Honestly, I'm surprised someone hasn't offed you yet. You don't play nicely with anyone, do you? Senshi, knights, Negaverse Agents…?" He hadn't the faintest idea how Orpheus perceived them, but if it was anything like the Dark Mirror Court?

"Do Dark Mirror Senshi even care what happens to you? Or have you pushed them all away in some ridiculous delusion that you're out here, on your own? Baring the weight of the world on your poor, dainty shoulders? Orpheus, really."

His gaze never left the senshi's.

"You can argue with me about many things, but not this. You are weak. And the sooner you acknowledge it is the sooner you can fix it."

Orpheus growled toward Remarque, his weight shifting again as he crossed his arms defensively. He was strong. He didn't need any rank or magic to prove that! He was offended by Remarque's comment regarding his strength and even worse when he implied it would be likely someone could kill him. It was definitely true he didn't play nice with others. It didn't matter what their position in this war was. He was a little soft toward chibi senshi but his regard to them was the same as other senshi.

"I am alone but I certainly am not carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. If it want to burn then it can go right head and do do. After all, what has it ever done for me? Nothing. If you want to fix anything, fix that. Fix what Ares did to me. Fix this hinderance. Fix something that needs fixing." He said firmly, uncrossing his arms and placing them on his hips. He was already strong and that didn't new to be fixed even if Remarque disagreed.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 17, 2013 11:14 pm

Remarque shrugged, unimpressed or just indifferent. "Why rely on me? If you despise the Court so much, why aren't you doing anything about it?"

He seemed smug—so self-satisfied. "Instead of just moping. You know, back to that whole power thing. Maybe if you came into it, you'd be able to do something. Or maybe you'd find out that it's not as bad as you think it is. Either way, at least you'd be doing something. If you're just going to stand there and whine, be off with you. You're not worth my time. Nor anyone's. Just go home and cry some more or something."

Orpheus was in no mood for a lecture from a self-serving a*****e like Remarque. He crossed his arms tightly around his chest and snorted, casually flicking his neck to move the hair out of his face.

"You know, why don't you kiss my a**? It's a hell of a lot nicer than Ares' and from the looks of it you're quite good at it."
