"Sit down, Lola... Sit down..." Orah crooned as she held a fishy smelling treat in her fingers and waved it in front of an adolescent calico cat. The cat, Lola, seemed more interested in pawing the treat loose so she could eat it, than in listening to her young owner.
The flower shop was slow this Monday, so Ida had decided it was safe enough to bring out her kitten and let her get some outside time. Lola was a primarily indoor cat, but one of the conditions her father had placed on keeping her was teaching her how to mouse the shop below the family apartments.
Orah had been reluctant at first to bring her kitten down, afraid she would run out the door and disappear... But the calico had seemed timid about the change in location and seemed more comfortable being the center of attention on top of the register counter. She was getting bolder with her exploration, but Orah finally felt confident that she wouldn't just run away. Just in case, though, a purple collar circled her neck with a heart shaped tag that told the reader where she lived and who she belonged to.
"There's a good girl, Lola..." The teen crooned as the kitten finally got fed up and sat down to tackle this refusal to release the treat from a more comfortable position. Orah gave up the treat immediately, stroking a hand down her spine in praise.

Teal eyes shielded from watched the interactions between the girl in the flowershop and her calico kitten. The cat to whom they belonged was crouched down, and with a flick of her flag-bearing tail, she slid her candy-colored goggles down into position. Ready. Set. RACE! The object of her mad sprint? Treats. There were treats. Fishy, delicious treats, which... Horatio barely stifled a laugh at the kitten sitting to get one of them. Sitting? On command? What did she think she was--a dog? Hmph. Maybe little miss all-the-colors had to do tricks in order to earn the treats, but the Mauvian would show her how it was done with true feline poise. ...okay, so maybe Horatio wasn't the poster cat for modeling, but she WAS fast and cute and determined to win. Her competitive nature clearly showing, the Himalayan leapt up onto the counter and rubbed up against Lola. They might be contenders for affection, but (1) cuddles were nice and (2) people generally felt kitties getting along was cuter than kitties fighting. She moved from the kitten to the person holding the treat with a playful "Mewl!" Paws stretched out, careful to avoid pricking the treat-giver... and then kitty speech was abandoned when a tell-tale warmth glowed beneath her touch. "Oh, it's you! Lemme have one of thoose fishy thiiiiings?"

A streak of brown fur launching itself onto the counter was startling to both the girl and her cat. Unsure what to do with the first cat she had seen since leaving the pet shop, Lola puffed up a bit and let out a tentative hiss as she was rubbed against. Concerned about a fight, Orah instinctively grabbed up her kitten, the calico forgetting her insult as she squirmed to get back down.
"Oh, geez..." She gasped out as the kitten eeled out of her arms and to the floor, making a beeline for the back room. Orah sighed as she watched her go, but a paw on her arm and a familiar voice pulled her back around.
"Horatio!" The teen laughed as she realized who the intruder was. "Fishy things? Oh! Yeah, sure! Here." A smile spread wide over her face as she dumped a little pile of treats on the counter and offered the guardian some ear scratches.
"What are you doing here? It's been a while since we met at that training event. How have you been?" Some might find it odd to see the flower girl talking to a goggled cat, but it was lucky for them the shop was so empty today. Quicksilver the Archangel

Horatio huffed right back at the kitten whenever it gave a hiss. What kind of stuck up thing didn't like free cuddles? Ha, joke was on the calico. Now all of the delicious fishy treats and cuddles belonged to Horatio! The Guardian was quite pleased with this turn of events and planned to take full advantage of the opportunity that had been presented before her. Purring started almost immediately when both treats and attention was aptly provided. She immediately dove in to eat one of the treats and it was just as tasty as it smelled! Crunching down on one while enjoying her ear skritching, she mewled in contentment despite her full mouth. "I'm okay; I've been having a really interesting day! I chased a bird and a squirrel and I danced around in the street with a little boy and all sorts of fun things! I didn't find anybody to wake up today, which is kind of sad, but I think I'll find someone tomorrow there are just soooo many people that still need to be discovered, and I want to wake them all AND OH MY MOON these are delicious treatss I-" Here the Guardian frowned and swallowed, looking up at the girl with a thoughtful look behind her goggles. "I... don't know your name. Can't call you by the same name I call you when you're all kicking Chaos in the face, and I can't call you 'hey you' because what if there's more?"

The teen watched Horatio devour the treats with wide eyes and vaguely felt sorry for her. Poor thing must not get enough food, if she was this hungry... though it might have just been because it was treats. Lola really liked this brand, as evidence by the still full bags of other brands she had tried.
A smile pulled at her lips as the guardian struggled to talk around her mouthfuls and she gently stroked down her spine and along her fluffy little tail. She sounded a bit like a child as she recited all the things she had done thus far today and Orah leaned on the counter as she listened, her chin propped in one hand.
"Oh!" She laughed when the subject of her name came up and she gave Horatio's ear a stroke. "That's okay. My name is Orah Gowan when I'm not powered up. I guess we never did get around to real introductions last time. As I remember, you were pretty busy with that other guardian kitty. I've never met her before though."
Lean shoulders shrugged as she propped her elbows on the counter and wiggled the bag to drop out a few more treats. At this rate, she was going to need to add another bag of them to the grocery list. It was a lucky thing she did most of the family shopping and that her father was as absent minded as he was... anyone else might have wondered about them going so fast.
"Horatio, do you have a family you stay with? A home? I... I actually have no idea where most of the guardians stay when they're not out being... guardians." She mused out loud.Quicksilver the Archangel

"Orah? Orah. That's a pretty name, and it ends in the same vowel sound as you other name so it should be easy to remember!" The Himalayan repeated the name with a grin, but that grin only deepened at mention of the other Guardian. "Yeah, me neither. She ran pretty fast when she thought I was going to blast her. HA!" Horatio was always pretty happy, but at Orah's question she beamed. She pawed at one of the newly poured treats and batted it around like a toy, her flagged tail flapping about as she purred, "I sure do! I've got a great family! There's a little girl, and two little boys, and a Mom and a Dad AND BEST OF ALL, Grandma and Grandpa live right next door! They have a yard with trees that I can climb, and little shiny balls that I roll around the house and a feather on a stick so the kids can play with me!" Sure, all of her family had names, but why bring up those little details when she could brag about how awesome they were? "I stay with them most days, but I'm strictly an out door kitty so I can leave whenever I need or want to go somewhere." She paused here to sniff at the air in consideration, and she admitted, "I dunno what other Guardians do. If I had my Senshi... maybe I would stay with her. Or him. I don't really remember. But since I don't know where my Senshi is, I stay with my current family. It'd be kind of hard on them if I left now, I think. But don't be sad, Orah, because I can always come visit and we can play and cuddle and... I guess YOUR kitty can, too, if she decides not to hate me?"

Orah laughed as she watched Horatio play, wondering if she was still a kitten herself, or if this was just the way she was. Either way, she was adorable and she found herself glad they had met.
"Your family sounds really nice. I just have my father and brother. My mother died when I was little, before we moved here, and her family lives over in India. I've never met them." She said as she reached out to pick out a treat, flicking it with her finger so it went sliding across the counter top.
"Do all guardians have a senshi? I've never heard that before. I haven't met many guardians though, so I guess I just haven't talked to enough of them." Orah smiled and chuckled softly as she waved her fingers. "Lola doesn't hate you. She's just young and things that are bigger than her scare her. And since she's the only pet we have, she's never met another kitty, or a dog, before. I'm sure she'll love you once she gets to know you!" The conversation was sort of a funny one, but it was nice to have something sweet and cute in her life to offset all the not so nice stuff she had been going through lately.
"I'd really love it if you came to visit whenever you wanted to. Maybe I can get Da to put a kitty door on the back room so you can get in whenever you want. If you can get up on the roof next door, though, there is a balcony right outside my room, so you could get in that way too."Quicksilver the Archangel

The kitty munched down on one of the treats as she listened, swallowing to comment, "Your family sounds nice too, although I'm sorry about your Mama. One day you should go to this India place and visit so you get to know them because it's good to have dreams like that." With that, she was back to batting at the nuggets of fishy goodness before her. Horatio paused in her play and gave serious consideration to Orah's question. (Yes, she could be serious, she just found it boooooring.) Truth be told... she didn't know all that much about the finer points of being a Guardian. She just... knew that somewhere out there, there was someone just for her. It was a feeling in her gut, the same way that it was a feeling that she was connected to something... big. Bigger than herself, bigger than her own personal Senshi. She licked at her paw and cleaned her whiskers. So what? It was nothing to worry about! "Dunno. I know I do, somewhere. That's enough for me!" When it came to talking about Lola and kitty doors, the fluffy kitty was more in her element. A smile appeared on her face, and then it turned mischevious as she giggled, "Oh, I can get in through any door! It'll be a fun game, maybe I can even play 'Which Entrance Today?' where I make different window or door my target. And I can mew and skritch and then when Da comes he'll say 'OH NO YOU ARE NOT LOLA!' and I'll zoom in anyway and we'll laaaaaugh~ Oh, oh, and I can cuddle with Lola and I'll give him the big, sad, kitty eyes, and then he'll not have the heart to kick me out. It'll be fun!"

A smile curved Orah's lips as she leaned her head in her hands, her elbows braced on the counter.
"I dunno... maybe some day I will. Just so I can say I did. I was really little when Mama died. Its hard sometimes to remember her, but I try. I don't really know if her family would even like me, but its not a bad idea to meet them once." She reached to give Horatio a scratch behind her ears. It was a natural motion, though part of her always wondered if Guardians really liked it the way regular cats do, of if they just humored their human companions.
It was kind of a nice thought, that somewhere out there was someone for the kitty... it made her wonder if she had her own guardian out there somewhere, waiting for her... "Do all senshi have guardians? Or vice versus? I guess I don't really know that much about you, like where you come from or how you got here... how do you know how to awaken or upgrade senshi? Do you have any other special things you can do?" Orah chuckled, finding all the questions that bubbled up kind of funny. Was getting through doors a special power?
"You sure are clever if you can figure out doors and windows with paws. It would be so funny to see my dad find you and watch him try to resist double kitten adorableness." She laughed.Quicksilver the Archangel

Horatio couldn't talk about other Guardians, but she certainly liked getting her ears scratched. It was shown in the way she tilted her head for easier access, how she offered her chin and her chest for further attention too. It felt good to be pet and cuddled and even better to be loved. She kneaded the table with her paws before scootching a little closer to Orah. This talk of Senshi and guardians was a little weird for cuddle time but, if it meant more attention, then she could happily continue! "Not all Senshi, and not all Guardians. It's like... some Senshi are all on their own, right, and sometimes Guardians don't want to bond to any one person and stick with a group of people instead." The puffy Himalyan's face squinched up in thought, and she brought her tail to rest on the girl's wrist, "Well, it's sort of hard to explain. See, you have a warm chest - it means you're a winner!" A paw rose to rest, momentarily, on the location of the girl's starseed before withdrawing again. "Not all people have that same warm spot, and I can't tell from far away. So, I have to go up and investigate, if I think they're a winner. If they're a winner then I know BOOM, you say these words, you become this person. Upgrading is sort of like that too - same spot, more warmth. Making the winners BETTER winners, like giving them a trophy. Shows that they're a bunch of MVPs! Oh, and I can kittybeam and pull objects from my pocket. Like when I give new Senshi their pretty magic sticks!" "Opening doors is a super fun game. Sometimes they're partially open so you can bat your paw like this--" here the small cat began to bat at a treat to demonstrate her technique, "or you can wriggle around the lock to see if you can get it open, on really old doors. Or you can bop at the window until a human comes to see what the heck is going on and then sneak in." Horatio listed all of these with the same boundless energy she displayed for everything else - games were always fun to talk about, and even funner to play!

Orah smiled as she brought both hands in to scratch and ruffle and stroke. It was amusing to listen to Horatio explain about guardians and about being a cat in general. She was so different from Poseidon and *********, but in a good way, her own special way. It made Orah kind of wish she had a guardian of her own... though that thought made her feel bad, because she already had a wonderful kitten of her own. It was different though, when the cat in question could talk and knew about being a senshi.
"You just feel it, huh? I suppose that's reasonable enough. There are a lot of things I don't know about being a senshi yet, I'm sure there are lots of things about being a guardian that would be over my head too." She giggled. "Oh well. I'd offer to show you my house, but I kind of need to stick around here and watch the shop in case a customer comes in. You'll come back later, or sometime soon, right? I don't work in the evenings once the store closes, and then I'd really be free to play with you."
The teen gave the cat a scratch around her jaw, stroking a hand down her back.Quicksilver the Archangel

"You're going to learn all the things, Orah, I just know it! You're strong and nice and pretty and smart and have the best cuddles ever." Horatio all but flopped in the girl's arms now, completly content to let her newest and bestest friend stroke her fur as much as she wanted. At the question, she yawned before nodding, "Yeah, I'll come by. Lots of times! I can play with you or scare away mean customers or talk to you about whatever you want. I like to talk, if you haven't noticed, and you're really good at listening too!" The small cat rolled onto her back and began to gently paw at Orah's hands, a giggle in her voice, "I don't know everything but I know lots of things and I like to play, so count on seeing me lots!"

Lean arms curved to hold the small furry body as it rolled into them, a smile stretching wide across Orah's face. It was hard to explain, but she just... really enjoyed this. It was simple, easy, warm... so different from a lot of the things that had entered her life lately. Though, those things were rather far from her mind right now as the teen got to enjoy just being happy for a while with nothing pressing on her mind.
"That sounds good to me!" She laughed as she cuddled the cat, tickling her soft belly with her fingertips. "I'm glad you think so well about me, and I'm glad you like to talk to me. We'll just have to be careful not to let the normal people hear us." The teen giggled as she touched her lips with her fingertip, watching as a couple walked past the open door of the shop. At least they didn't come in, which would have meant their fun times would have had to be paused.
Reaching, she grabbed a treat and teased the guardian with it, cradling her in the crook of one arm.Quicksilver the Archangel

Bluefire Dragonz Gonna call this an ending post! Horatio knew her job and even if she was a bit of a goofball, she wasn't going to talk whenever there were strangers near the door. She wrapped herself up entirely in cuddling and the sensation of being tickled, wriggling ever so slightly in response. Once the "danger" had passed, she batted at Orah's hair with a whisper--one of the hardest sounds to make from her tiny, demanding mouth, "Okay, but I'm not going to stop talking or visiting so you'd better get used to having me around."
