This could not be happening... Whatever 'this' was. The monster, the light, the voice in his head and the fancy new clothes he was suddenly wearing. Or the mask he clutched in his hand like a lifeline against madness. Except... Wasn't that the cause of all this? He hardly remembered picking it up, but when the dust had settled, there it was in his hand.
Ys was just on the verge of having a panic attack and there was only one person in the whole city he could think of to go to. Which he was currently doing, running through the carnival at breakneck speeds. Often he misjudged a turn, unused to the increase in speed he had gotten, and stumbled till he could regain his footing. As if that hadn't been enough to draw attention from the few remaining workers after the close of the carnival for the day, the unholy jangling clatter he made as he ran was enough to shake the dead out of slumber.
The young man made a beeline for the most likely place the carnival owner would be, praying he'd be alone so he could go into proper hysterics without an audience, for once. lithia_brandon Made an rp for us, hope you don't mind!

Chester was in his home away from home, the offices he had turned into a second house. A small house, much smaller than the nice place he should have been sleeping in more often than he was, but it was further away from the Carnival than he liked to be these days. And anyway, it was bigger but it was empty and far less comforting than the confined but comfortable office.
He was sitting on the sofa, looking over schematics and reports that had been written up for him, summaries of all the work being done while he was in recovery from his near death experiences as of late.
It was better to just lump it and stay inside for now, until he was strong enough to face the Negaverse again, instead of having Zia yelling at him and, worse, worrying about him.
He was surprised when he heard some commotion outside. The Carnival was still and silent for the night, but he heard someone running, presumably while carrying an armful of bells, and he peered outside to see what the source was. The sight caught him off guard. It looked like something that fit in his Carnival, but no.
He didn't know who this person was, and he saw the markings of the planet on this guys outfit. So he was Knight of some kind, but he looked panicked. Chester was torn. Did he power up and risk being seen if this guy was being chased? What other choice did he have beside hiding?
"Over here," he called, though it seemed like the Knight was already coming this way.

His destination finally in sight, Ys dashed up to the door and the man standing in it, his face a wash of panic.
"What the hell did you do to me?!" He barked as he skidded to a stop in front of him. "I was normal until you did that thing when you fell off the equipment! Then suddenly monsters are popping up bloody every where and then this mask appears and when I grab it, I'm this and... and... BLOODY HELL MAN!"
Ys's voice had steadily risen as he babbled, both in volume and in depth, becoming nearly a squeak as he finished off with an expletive. And to top it off, he was still jingling because he was still shaking, setting all his bells to ringing. He just... didn't understand what was going on. Was he still even human? Had he ever been? Why was this happening to him, of all people?
It didn't help that he was dramatic by nature... this just gave him fuel to go into a proper fit about it.

It took a moment before Chester processed what he was hearing. He didn't recognize Ys until he mentioned falling off the equipment, and Chester realized he was talking to his employee.
"Eli?"
He blinked at the other, then grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into the office. He shut the door and blinked, looking at Eli and shaking his head. He had become like him as well? Another Knight, and another protector of the Carnival. Chester did not see why he was panicking so much, really, because it seemed like a good thing to Chester.
But then, he had a different perspective on things.
"You're alright, stop panicking. You're a knight, like I am. That's what happened when I fell off that trapeze." He powered up, so Ys could see that it worked just like his own power up. "It only happened recently for me, too, but we're both the same, I guess." He spoke terribly calmly, to an infuriating degree when panic was warranted.

Ys let himself be shuffled into the office where he commenced pacing, working out his nervous energy with excited movements. The adrenaline from the attack was still high in his system, but it was coming down, slowly. Now that he wasn't in danger any more, or at least, he hoped he wasn't.
"What the bloody hell is a Knight?" He gasped out as he threw his arms up, still pacing. "And what the hell are those monsters that keep attacking me? What the hell is this... mask thing and why do I have it? What am I supposed to do with it?"
The questions rolled out like a flood now that he had a willing audience for them and he let them trip off his tongue at a fast clip. It might be hard to follow, he talked so fast, and his accent had gotten thicker with his excitement.
"Do I have super powers now? Is this going to keep happening to me? I swear, this is your fault for getting me into this!"

"It's... what they call us. Knights. We can turn into these... these things, and we protect people, from others. Like the people that attacked the Carnival that night: they're our enemies." He shook his head, feeling his anger bubbling just at mentioning them. It made him furious, and he wanted nothing more than to be rid of them.
That was what he had pledged himself to. Knights were supposed to have goals, right? things they fought for and served or whatever?
This was his fight.
"You do have powers now. I mean. You can turn into this.. form... and you can take more hits. You can jump and run and hit harder. It's strange, but it's good for fighting. I'm Luxor, Page of Pluto. I guess Page is my rank, but I'm still a knight. To be honest I don't know much, I've been playing it by ear so far. A few others have helped me, and I've learned some things."
Like going to his wonder, and how he would have magic when he achieved a new rank.
"The monsters are Youma. They're part of the bad guys team, they attacked the Carnival too."

It was a lot to process and every word that came out of Chester's mouth just sounded more and more like it came out of some comic book or anime.
"Page of Pluto? Like, the planet?" Eli said as he listened, finally slowing his pacing to grab one of the chairs and flop down in it. It wasn't terribly relaxing though, as he still twitched and shifted, drumming his fingers on his thighs and the chair arms before he shifted again. The young man nervously rubbed his jaw and the back of his neck before he sighed.
"I don't understand why this happened to me. I mean, monsters are bad and I don't like them anywhere near the carnival, but..." Loosing the words, he just guestured expansively and dramatically at him.
"So like... how does this crap work? You seem to know what you're doing, right? I think you need to show me so I'm not jingling my a** all the bloody way home."

"Like the planet," he confirmed, with a slight nod. He was not trying to be dismissive, he was just having a difficult time being as open and supportive as this role seemed to require. He knew that it was overwhelming to suddenly awaken into this fight, but he did not know how to be reassuring and patient in the way that was required. When he had awakened he'd just accepted it and rolled with it, which seemed to be far more difficult for most people to do.
He saw how upset and overwhelmed Eli was and he watched him quietly, a voice in the back of his head ordering the other to be quiet and calm down, but no words leaving his mouth. He was just used to keeping things ordered and this sort of thing was far more chaotic than he liked.
"I don't really know. We're supposed to fight the bad guys, like the people that attacked the Carnival, and the monsters. Keep people who don't have these powers safe. You can go back to being normal by just... picturing yourself how you were and just sort of going back to it. I guess magic does it."
He never really asked questions about it, so that only added to the difficulties of trying to explain it to someone else. He was a brawler, not a teacher.

Ys frowned as he looked down at himself, deciding to attempt what Chester had suggested. Picture himself like before? His long-fingered hand curled around the shaft of his mask and he struggled to call up what he had been wearing before, firmly ordering the mask in his head to make him look like that again... The mask stared serenely back at him, bothered by whatever mental insults were being thrown at it.
"Bloody hell." Ys sighed as he dropped the mask to let it dangle from his fingers, tilting his head back to let it rest on his chair. "Its not working, and I still don't understand why this is happening to me of all people. I don't want to save people or hunt monsters... I don't even know how to fight! I don't even know where to start on all of this. I just want to forget it ever happened."
The performer scowled as he pitched the mask underhanded across the room, watching as it hit the top of Chester's desk and slid over onto the floor.
"It can all bloody well go to hell." He sighed as he scrubbed his face with the palms of his hands.

"Maybe you're just bad at it," Luxor said blandly, though he did not mean it as the insult it sounded like. He was being honest, since it was new to Ys and he was not sure how to power down properly, it was probably just because he was not good at it yet. Practice would make it better for him, and Luxor was not sure how else to explain it to him. He'd just have to keep trying.
"I don't know either, why certain people power up. But it happened, and pouting about it won't undo it. People get hurt by the other guys, the bad guys. The Negaverse. If we can help protect people with these powers, then I guess that is what we're supposed to do. And when no one is around, it helps with work at the Carnival."
Only he would be thinking about work at a time like this.
"If you don't want to fight, I guess you don't have to. There are others like us, a lot of others. They might know more, and help you figure out what to do. I haven't been doing this very long, and after what happened here, all I can think to do is destroy the people responsible for it. If I keep getting stronger like this, then I'll be able to do that."
His goals were all revenge based, but that suited him just fine.

Ys gave Luxor a LOOK when he said that, orange eyes decorated with their paint. Okay so, maybe that was true... maybe he was bad at it, but that didn't mean he had to admit it. He was good at lots of things... fantastic, even. He refused to admit that this new whatever he had was not one of them. Even if it had come as a rather large surprise to transform for the first time.
"So... you go around fighting people like the ones that attacked the carnival... That doesn't sound very safe." He said finally, crossing his arms over his chest. "Do you fight all alone? Even knowing that, if you get hurt or even killed, the rest of us are s**t out of luck?"
Rocking up to his feet in a jingle of bells, the young man tugged his vest straight and then fussed with the lace cuffs of his shirt, his eyes on his long fingers. He didn't much like finding out that his employer, and the sole reason he was able to perform professionally, was out risking his life. Suddenly this had become a far more serious issue for him, beyond that he had been thrown into something unexpectedly.
"You should really have someone to watch your back, you know. Someone to make sure you come back alive." Eli said stiffly.

"Fighting alone only puts me at risk," he pointed out, blandly. He had never really thought about it in that way before. Generally, he accepted that most of the things he did would be done alone: he was not a man of many friends. And of those friends, he doubted too many wanted to go out and fight monsters with him.
He looked at Ys, cutting straight through all the chatter that he was sure would buffer the conversation if he gave the other half a chance to do so.
"Why, do you want to be that person? Like a partner?" He was not sure he was the type for a battle partner, but if Ys was asking, he supposed it would not be a terrible idea. After all, Luxor would be able to keep an eye on the other knight, and really, that was something he wanted to do.
He might have been goofy. And annoying. And his work ethic was not the best. But Luxor did not want to have him get hurt out there on his own, and if he could do something, even just by way of being there to even the odds, he would like that better.
Not that he'd say that out loud. Him, worrying about his coworker? Pfft.

Ys straightened up, bracing one hand on his hip as he straightened the lace at his throat. The damn bells tinkled at the motion and wondered how the hell he was going to put up with that constant noise...
"Putting yourself at risk puts everyone who relies on you at risk by association." He said with a firm nod, dropping his other hand to his hip to strike something of a peter pan pose.
"Its settled then. I'll help you with this knight thing and be your back up. That way, I can at least make sure you make it home alive." The tall man seemed entirely assured that the decision had been made, whether or not Luxor wanted a partner. He conveniently ignored what this would entail, but he had set his mind to it and that was that. Once he decided something, Ys was unmoving and stubborn as a mule... something Luxor was no doubt coming to figure out as he steamrolled right over him.
"SO." He said, finally clapping his hands and rubbing the palms together. "When do we get started?"
