Ifnie watched the Goddess curiously. She seemed a little busy and distracted. But quick enough, she was handing her something and speaking. "Wait... what?" The grey figure blinked, and then stared at the bag she was holding awkwardly. "For... me?" Okay. Why couldn't a Goddess give her a gift? Shrugging, Ifnie worked to open the bag and see what the inside revealed.

And was a little disappointed when there was nothing. She tilted the bag towards the Goddess. "There's nothing in it."

"You can?" Oh, she could fix it. That was good. Though she wasn't quite sure what needed to be fixed. Unless the Goddess meant she had to go retrieve her own gift? Now she was confusing herself.

"Right. Go to the special labs. Retrieve a heart." She nodded. "I can do that."

Then she was given... scissors. Ifnie stared at them, turning them this way and that. They were interesting and sharp. Their weight seemed to fit comfortably in her hand. Huh.

"Wait, who didn't make it?" She glanced up at the Goddess, features scrunched in confusion. But the Goddess was once again busy and Ifnie was forced to leave it at hat. At least she had her task now. And it sounded easy enough. Well, almost. Squeezing through the tiny opening was a little difficult, but she managed.

The first thing she saw once through were doors. Three of them to be exact. Each one seemed to have something on it. Walking up to one at random, she suddenly stopped in her tracks and shivered. The door she stood in front of have some sort of twisted tree etched upon it. And the feelings radiating off it? Ifnie moved quickly away from that door! Her second choice to approach was much more acceptable. And it even had a happy pumpkin on it!

"Psh, good enough for me." She muttered, not even bothering to go to the other door. That first one she'd gone near had been bad enough! This one seemed simple. And easy.

Pushing through door one, Ifnie began her hunt for a heart.

Ifnie wasn't sure what she had been expecting, but this was much nicer. Not quite as chilling as that one door had been. When the door closed behind her, she merely glanced over her shoulder at it before moving forward. There was humming and pumpkins. Lots of pumpkins. And... a feeling. Like she'd been waiting for someone for a long time and they had finally returned. But she wasn't waiting for anyone. Just looking for a heart to give the Goddess.

Her lips curled up of their own accord, a small smile forming. Ifnie reached up to brush her fingers across her mouth. Yes, she was smiling. But why?

Shrugging it off, the shadow continued walking, smile on her face, following the path of glowing pumpkins. They seemed so bright and happy. And peaceful. Even as she moved from the pathway to a large open field, there was no sinister feelings. Just... peaceful. And the flowers kept drawing her eye until Ifnie paused, crouching down to touch one. They glowed orange, like the pumpkins, and made her smile more.

As she stood, she noticed a tombstone near the center of the field. Walking up to it slowly, Ifnie bent down to examine what was written on it.

"HERE LIES MELODY."

Melody? Was that a name? It wasn't any name she had heard of. Leaning closer to try and see if there was any other writing below this, she heard a sound. Melody...

Thump-thump.

Ifnie blinked, laying her hear head against the ground.

Thump-thump.

A heart! There was a heart down there. Exactly what they needed.

Wait... they?

"C'mon, girl! We got this." The voice was chipper and velvety.

She just gave her The Look.

"Oh don't gimme that face! It ain't like you got someone waiting at home. Let's goooo!" Melody stepped back, gesturing at her skimpy outfit. "Besides, how often do we girls get t'where something like this?!"

What... what had that been? Ifnie blinked at the tombstone, and listened to the steady beating of the heart just below the surface. Shaking off the strange memory, she dug carefully into the ground, using the scissors as her tool until, at last, she uncovered the heart. She stared at it for a few seconds before reaching down to scoop it up in her hands.

Thump-thump.

"Remember, we're gonna go out and not think about boys!" A giggle.

And then, the heart stopped beating.

Staring at it, as if she expected it to start up again, Ifnie finally placed it into her bag and stood up.

The shadow walked swiftly, still thinking over what she had 'seen'. The bag with the heart bumped periodiaclly against her chest as she moved. It was strange, this ground. Not quite as solid as the previous. In fact, it seemed to be chaning the further she walked. It felt liquidy and she almost slipped once or twice. It was the stickiness that kept her actually on her feet.

But then she ran into a dead in.

A sound behind her drew her attention. It was as if someone was following her. Except, there was no one. Ifnie stared, still not seeing or hearing anything else. After a minute, she turned to go a different direction as she continued searching for the way out.

"Please give it back."

Ifnie twilred around.

Nothing.

Frowning, she stood there motionless before taking a few more steps and stopping. But still nothing. After a few more times of this stop and go, she continued on, noting the water was rising. It wasn't until she was neck deep that Ifnie gave up on this path. It was either continue and hope there was an exit. Or be stuck swimming with no way out.

She turned to slosh her way back the way she'd just come.

Please give me back my-

The phrase was barely out of the figures mouth before hands were shoving her below the water. Ifnie struggled, a torrent of bubbles rising up as she growled under the water. But the figure didn't budge and she was losing air. It shoved her down even deeper. A cold, almost lifeless feeling began to engulf her. Her struggles began to cease and as she looked up at the figure, she met deep and glassy grey eyes... sunken teeth...

"Give me back my heart."

Your heart?

What...

"The lake, dork! Remember when we spent that night out at the lake? I think... that will always be my most favorite night out with you."

Melody.

Her best friend.

... Her only friend.

She was floating into nothingness.

Glassy grey eyes boring into her.

I am... sorry. Ifnie thought, feeling something inside of her shrivel up as she understood what she must do.

There was no other option.

This was the only way.

So... sorry.

She had to exist. There was no other option. For the Blessings. For the Goddesses. Ifnie kicked her legs as hard as she could, struggling with renewed ferocity. Her hands thrashed and beat at the figure. And she realized she'd never let go of the scissors. There was a tiny flicker of some undifined feeling. And then Ifnie plunged the scissors into the figure.

It shrieked-

- And then it was gone.

Ifnie suddenly could breathe again. Trying to gasp for air, she coughed up and spit out water for several minutes. The disgusting liquid made her shudder and back away from it. And only then did she realize there was a brighter light shining. Looking towards it, the shadow spotted a door. The exit.

She scrambled to her feet quickly, looking over her shoulder one last time. A flicker... of something... and then nothing. She swallowed, unsure if she'd actually seen the figure just then... or not. But she was definitely not sticking around to find out.

She rushed out the door to deliever her bag.
