Because even a weapon used incorrectly was more effective then no weapon at all. This was proven as Gin rushed forward to try to lend a hand, only to knocked back by a scuttly, scrawny leg. Sterncave stumbled his way into combat, not quite sure where he was, or what he was doing there. "Whoah! Oh, hey, guys! This isn't normally the kind of party I'd go to, but hey, there's a first for everything right?"
Stern grinned stupidly and rubbed the back of his neck and took a step forward. "Here goes nothing..."

He looked around him at the others fighting the same creature, and blinked, as if not understanding something. "So you guys are the strong silent types, huh? I can dig that!"
And then, much more quietly, he added: "I guess." Before he attempted again. He did a lot better this time, despite his uneasiness at the fact no one was talking ... like at all.
Well, it could be worse, right? He took a pretty firm swipe at the creature they were after. It'd be done in no time, for sure.
"Kinda stings, huh?" he asked, wincing a little. "But I mean, it's cool, I don't even feel it!" He rolled his shoulder, as though he was completely unaffected by the pain.
Yeah, he wasn't.
Suddenly, it sank in that she had replied to him. And he gave her a face somewhere between disgusted and vaguely upset.

"They're not so alive." She stated rather bluntly with a shrug. And promptly earned herself another bruise as she booted it away again. "They just... keep coming back. I've uh.. " And then, then it was time to count things on her fingers.

Well, she had certainly stumbled upon a talkative little group. She wasn't feeling half so chatty, so she kept her attention on the creature and worked at hitting it and not getting hit. She was only managing half of that so far. It was really starting to take its toll on him.
Nevertheless, Stern wasn't one to stop fighting, especially in front of new acquaintances who were certainly doing their part to further the fight-- at this rate, he'd look pathetic!

A swing, a miss, and a spindly leg caught her across the stomach and forced her back, pulling a pained hiss from dark lips. She was really going to have to get herself a weapon. Fighting this things bare handed was tough. And then. Then the thing wised up. As she went to kick it it dodged away and left her to fall flat on her a** instead. It even hit her once for her trouble.
