Evan sat in the carriage as it rocked back and forth on their way home from old castle. A blush had settled on his cheeks and he couldn’t seem to rid himself of it no matter how hard he tried. He sat looking out the window watching the country side roll by as his mind jumped from one thing to the next. His hand rested on Kitten’s ears, the doe’s head in his lap as she lay on the floor. Her ears twitched forward towards him, as if she was listening to his inner thoughts. Which he guessed in a way she was, listening to his inner emotions, which were probably confusing for the level headed doe. Though she occasionally shot a glare Elliott’s way, right now though her eyes were closed; this was good as she was known to be foul of temper when she was playing the part of protective doe.
Evan shook his head slightly his eyes falling closed as he sighed. He couldn’t believe he had fallen apart like that, it was better today, he was far more aware of himself. While he was still slightly struggling with his own morality and the inevitable sense of worthlessness that followed suite, he was more at ease this morning, about that at least. Still he felt ashamed to have fallen apart like that in Elliott’s arms. How weak did Elliott think him now? He flinched slightly at that thought as he glanced back out the window.
Though, if he thought about it, if he truly thought about what had happened… he felt his cheeks flushing all over again. He had awoken on Elliott’s chest, the other’s arm wrapped protectively around him, sleeping soundly. It had been quite the sight to awaken to, and he had been so comfortable. He had slept soundly tucked there, something he had done rarely as of late. Not to mention Elliott had kissed him, kissed him. He still couldn’t quite get over that, what was the other thinking right now? What had he been thinking then? Had he really enjoyed it?
Evan’s head fell into his hands and he slowly began rubbing his temples, too many questions. Kitten lifted her head slightly as the hand stopped rubbing her ears. She could tell that Evan was deeply troubled, and it left her with a bitter taste in her mouth. She leaned up carefully to lick Evan’s cheek and butt her nose against it. She was doing her best to comfort him in every way she knew how, though what she really wanted to do was head butt Elliott.
Evan groaned softly, he had slipped out of the room before he and Elliott had gotten a chance to talk and now he was regretting it. He had run away because he didn’t know what else to do really, and now it only made things worse. Plus, and this was probably the most dreadful of all, he had the vaguest memory of telling Elliott that he loved him. Which while true, wasn’t something he had ever intended to give voice to. What was he gonna do? What could he do? It wasn’t like it really changed anything; he wasn’t good enough for Elliott, a peon that was all he was. He flinched once more and pulled his knees up to his chest. He wasn’t worth one of those scarves Elliott was always toting around, what made him think he deserved to be anything more than a friend to Elliott? He was lucky to be a friend, he shouldn’t hope for anything more. He pressed his forehead into his knees as he felt the first little sting of tears.
Kitten gave a soft snort through her nose as she stood slightly in the bottom of the carriage and moved forward to butt her head against Elliott. She gave another soft snort looking at him, standing half over Vaim in the process. While she couldn’t really understand what was going on, she knew Evan was upset and that it was Elliott’s fault and damn it he was going to fix it. She didn’t give a damn if he was someone of great importance in the human hierarchy.
