There was something about the way this goddess spoke, that unnerved him. She wanted a ... heart?? like his own core?? ... He shuddered to think of such a thing, but the thought that he could be closer to understanding his new life, led him to accept.
And so here he stood, barred only by three separate doors. One of which called to him most.
The red emblem, circling round, appeared so very much like the mark that had appeared on his own body. Why was that?? ... was this a sign from the goddess?? ... There was only one way to know for certain.

He almost drew back at once. He could hear the voices chanting, repeating a name that seemed so foreign to him. What was more, he could see faces, a whole crowd as he passed through the threshold, faded entirely the moment he was inside.
He blinked. A long hallway stretched before him, and there seemed to be no other option. His footsteps traced a path down the hall almost blindly, til suddenly-
Thump!
He stumbled across something. Not just any something, but a box. And again, came a thump.
How curious. He lifted the lid and peered inside, only to find the box heaped with fabric. His fingers worked along the folds, easing them back as a soft tawny glow emanated outwards ...
Th-thump! Th-thump!
No, surely ... the heart the Goddess requested?? ...
He fumbled out his scissors, and began to work carefully, snipping here, and trimming there, the sharp blades slicing through cloth and tangled wire until a voice echoed by his ear:
Maraaaa-a ...
He shuddered, for seemingly no reason at all.His fingers closed round the heart-
'Haha you oaf!'
'O-oh I'm sorry ...' The young colt cocked his head away, but his eyes lingered on the white-haired young mare. He had seen her on many occasions, but this was the first time he had ever spoken to her. And to run smack into her, his face was a livid rosy color.
She only laughed, shaking her head. A tiny hand extended towards him, bangles jingling warmly. 'I'm Mara. and I'm going to be the best sage this side of the oasis, just you wait and see!'
She had actually spoken to him! His face flushed again, and he managed to stammer 'O-oh I'm __,' The name wasn't clear. 'I'm training to be a soldier, I guess ...'
'You guess?? ...' Her question caught him by surprise.
'W-well yeah ... I want to help the clan. I just ... I'm kind of useless when it comes to physical prowess ...' His frayed wings twitched slightly, bent and utterly useless.
But her laugh came again, light and airy as the desert wind, and her tiny hands slipped round his own. 'I believe in you. Okay?? ... I'll be seeing you then, and best of luck with your training, eh __??'
I believe in you ...
He extracted the heart, stumbling back from the strange vision. It gave a last final beat, and fell still.
His hand trembled as he pocketed the heart. He didn't understand what that vision was. Or why it had happened. But just like the statue of the Goddess of Longing, it caused his own core pain.

Task accomplished, he turned round and began back. But the farther he tread, the less stable he felt. The floor seemed quite slippery, and the sound of water followed him as he attempted to find the door.
What loomed in front was a dead end.
But the sloshing continued. And with it a voice cried out. He couldn't give the heart back, it was for the goddess after all. He turned round, only to be submerged in the neck-deep water, pinned below the surface. For the first time since he had become a being of his own, he felt that sense of barely existing.
And then-
'I thought you liked to dance??'
I do, but, the others will laugh.'
'I won't.'
Her smile somehow assured him. He grasped her small hand and rose. 'Alright, but only this once.'
She only smiled, and began to twirl. Her feet kicked up dust and sand alike, her bangles hissing out a feverish tune, and before he knew it was spirited off in a wild dance, this little girl, his dear friend, Mara giggling and laughing as she spun round and round at the length of his arms. It felt good. And he couldn't deny the small smile that crept slowly across his face. That once, would become dozens of dozens of times ...

This thing- no Mara glared through bottomless eyes of malice as she pressed him deeper underwater, breaking his thought. No, this wasn't right. Mara wouldn't do this to him, this couldn't be her! And he had to live, he had to make it away from this place, for the sake of the Goddess!
He mustered up the strength, and brought a hand around, scissors sinking deep into the creature's chest. With a sudden shrill cry, the figure vanished, as did the water.
He choked, coughing up the black remains of this nightmare, before slowly dragging himself to his feet. Ahead, a light emanated brightly, guiding him back to the entrance he had just passed. Thank the goddess.
But in the distance, the figure of a young girl could still be seen, glaring malevolently as it clutched the razor sharp scissors tightly.

The table was unexpected. The goddess had sent him here in search of love after all. He didn't quite understand what she meant by that, though he didn't think that love was a table, either.
Two jars awaited him, one pink, the other blue. He reached his hand instinctively for the blue one, but paused. What was this eerie aura?? ... It didn't didn't seem very pleasant at all.
Instead he chose the pink.
Drink me. Well, if it would give him answers ... He took a small sip, and immediately a shift in his mood took place. Warmth bubbled up from his chest, and for some inexplicable reason, he felt immensely comforted and at peace, so much so in fact, he didn't realize for a few moments that the table had changed at all. Covered in edible delicacies, his eye was immediately drawn towards the sweet, rich cake, and tearing off a small piece, he took a bite.
The sweetness was nearly too much. Surely there was something to drink ...
A gleaming golden cup caught his eye. Something ... something seemed oddly familiar about it, though he realized he could just as well be imagining such a thing. His fingers wrapped around it's gilded handle, and sniffing it, he took a sip.
Warmth flooded his core with confidence, empowerment, strength. He had done this before, he could remember now ...
[Will fill in with memory tomorrow]
