Lyebner took a deep breath, squinting at the creature in the fog from afar. It was easy to make out their huge, bright screens now, to hear their strange, monotonous whispers in the relative silence of this world. He honestly didn't know why he had started fighting these things beyond the obvious—they had attacked him first—but now he felt obligated to continue. There was something he wasn't seeing, some larger picture that connected these creatures and that huge whip-wielding monster to him.
He would have to keep it in mind. Once he had decided to get moving, the boy ran toward the monster, shouting as he leaped toward it and stabbed it in the legs. No, no, no, no. This wasn't going as planned. The creature reared up in response to his shout, dragging him off of the ground as it lifted one leg, then the other in an effort to get him to fall.
