This time he approached the creature with a great deal more care. Sneaking up behind it had worked before, so Lyebner did it again, slashing his blades across the backs of the creature's ankles. It wasn't so unaware the next time, and Lyeb barely got a hit in before it swiped at him in return. It only took one last strong swing of his blades to make the creature fall. It dropped in a heap, leaking familiar trinkets instead of... blood?

He approached the creature and took his spoils. Any questions he'd had about the nature of these things—the nature of himself—seemed unimportant once again. x2
