Dana was positive this was Evie's usual route home from work. With only one car and her father and Evie both working late into the night tonight, Evie had been all set to take the bus.
Recent revelations about being a senshi had been weighing on her mind. Between Tara's confession and Ainsley's troubling memories, it had finally managed to untangle in Dana's mind as something very complicated and not all sunshine and roses.
It also wasn't all death and destruction, but something that needed careful thought and execution. It was definitely not a game, like she started out thinking.
Right now she balanced a smattering of secret identities in her head, but the most important ones were the ones in her family. Sharing with Tara only lampshaded the large rift she had with Evie, and how she had purposely kept her sister out of the loop. At this point, she had the most pieces of the puzzle, and she decided to find her sister and make an effort, instead of her usual passive aggressive tactic of stealing her things and injecting herself into her private endeavors in the hopes she would do the lion's share of the work in building bridges.
This was the mindset Dana had left the house with before powering up as Columba. Evie was going to have a long lonely walk home, but she planned to crash it and use it as an opportunity for the two of them to talk some things out.
Except Evie was apparently going into overtime, so the plan was stalled a bit, leaving Columba to sigh and scrunch up her hat nervously as she paced the block the bakery was located on.

There had been motivations for ********* evening patrol around Evie's workplace.
It had everything to do with mooching some sweet, SWEET treats off of the girl. However, the manx couldn't help but perk up rather notably with her whiskers fanned out from her spot by the exit.
There was a chibi senshi nearby.
Succumbing to her more feline-nature, the cat allowed her curiosity to whisk her away to the point that she was trotting up to the young teen's ankles.
"Good evening Sailor Columba!" It was a simple greeting, but it was enough to announce her presence.

Columba was gnawing away at nervous thoughts when a voice snapped her out of it. "Oh..." She looked around, and then down to notice the manx at her feet. "You're not Sheena."
She had only ever met one guardian before, sue her.
She crouched down and rested her arms on her knees. "What are you doing around here?" She half hoped it was for awakening some other, unrelated senshi, if only because she was curious about the process.
She quirked one eyebrow as she thought of something, though, especially since she had just had a conversation with Hypnos about how cats must know everything. "You know, it's kind of no fair you guys just know everyone's names like that."

The chubby cat chuckled.
"You are correct! I am not Sheena!" At least the manx did seem to know who Sheena was.
"I am *********!" With that the feline bowed her upper body down against the ground slightly to accent her introduction. When she rose back up to her usual height, she mentioned in a singsong manner "Aaaaaaaand... I gotta eat like everyone else! Hoping to get myself some free snacks!"
The young senshi commented about ********* assumed knowledge, and the cat was rather quick to correct her. "Oh... we don't know everyone's name! Just senshi, and just senshi on the side of order!" If she had known Psyche's name from the get go, things probably would have been a lot easier.
The manx hopped up onto her hind legs and pressed her front legs upon Columba's shins. In her typical friendly tone, the Mauvian inquired "How about you? You seem a bit older than some of the other chibi senshi I have met... but you don't really look like you are patrolling. What's up?"

"Well good luck. You might try the dumpster," Columba snickered. Evie might've championed animal rights but she was terrified of dogs and had a weird disdain for cats. She didn't see her kindly offering treats to a stray.
"Oh, I'm not, I guess," She grimaced back behind her. "Patrolling, I mean. I'm waiting for someone."
She did seem to puff up a bit about the subject of age. "I'm thirteen," She announced. "But not for very long. I'm going to be in high school soon."
She had managed to delude herself that this would make everything better and the future was going to be much brighter because of this grand increase in status.

It wasn't past ********* to try the dumpster, but she had to try her primary connection to the bakery first before going that splendid route. The young teen confessed to waiting for someone, which made the feline think of another chibi coming to meet up with her at a common public place they were familiar with. Not thinking anything of it, the feline shrugged it off in favor of another topic.
"Thirteen! Goodness... and going into high school too!" What was this girl doing as a mere chibi senshi still? A primary level one to boot! The tomboyish girl seemed more than ready for a bit more responsibility and power in the manx's opinion.
"Well... Perhaps I can give you an early gift in celebration of high school.... might I see your henshin pen?"

"Huh? Oh," Unfamiliar with locating, finding and all the while constantly misplacing her things through subspace shifts and summoning abilities, Columba found it easier to briefly power down, get a better bearing on where her things were, and power back up in a quick second. Or as quick as a senshi could make up, that was.
She was still woefully ignorant in a lot of the basics.
"Whoops~ Here you go," She said with a small laugh to cover up how embarrassed she was as she handed ********* the pen.

For that brief moment in which Columba was no longer Columba, ********* couldn't help but tilt her head.
This girl looked really similar to another girl she knew...
However, the cat shook it off as mere coincidence before attempting to grab the pen between her two paws. Awkwardly, she tumbled back, clutching onto the pen against her body as she pretty much rolled.
When she stopped, the pen started to glow and change shape. When the mesmerizing glow ceased, the pen looked completely different from before.
The cat rolled to her side and loosened her grip on the object.
"There we go! One new pen!"

"Oooo," Columba watched with her mouth gaping and she reached out to grab it. "What'd you do?"
"Yeah, *********," Evie's voice sounded angry and wavered a bit. It took a lot of effort to keep her tone even and not raised. She was standing there, though, and when she spoke, Columba nearly jumped out of her skin. "What'd you do?"
"Evie--"
"Shut up, Dana," Evie didn't bark, or snap, but the words were enough to make Columba's cheeks turn red and her stomach turn. Especially when she stood up, clutching her new pen, and Evie just held out a demanding hand for it.
"No, it's mine," She argued, taking a defensive step back.
Evie didn't say anything at first, but she did take a good look at the pen. It resembled her super pen much more closely than a basic senshi pen, and then something even worse than 'stupid ********* just awakened my sister' clicked in her brain. "This an upgrade."
She turned on *********, fully raging now, "How long has this been going on?!"

The manx took a couple steps back before Evie announced her presence. The already fluffy cat seemed to grow vaguely fluffier, but seemed to feign a sort of calmness that was forced.
"Oh, Evie... is your shift over now?" There was a pause when she rather rudely told the chibi senshi to quiet down. She seemed to have a certain sort of familiarity to her mannerisms that made the cat look to the chibi senshi, then to Evie. Then blink and look at Evie with narrowed eyes before looking back to Columba.
"...wait..... oh goodness.... is this your sister, Evie?!"
It wasn't like the manx was completely ignorant of the fact that the tall dark haired girl had a younger sister. However, it wasn't exactly like Eunomia or Evie had gone out of her way to introduce the Mauvian to the young teen.
When Evie seemed to pounce on her verbally, the manx merely tilted her head to the side about 45 degrees. "....I think this has been going on for about... 5 minutes maybe? Give or take..." With her hind leg, she scratched behind her ear in contemplation.

Evie opened her mouth to say something until ********* answer and all it implied hit her and she stopped, and just gave the cat a long, sustained, half lidded and unamused stare while Columba giggled.
"I meant, how long has she been a senshi," She said, pointing a dramatic hand towards her sister and fully assuming ********* had done the awakening too.
"Evie, I was gonna tell you--"
"Shut. Up. Dana," Evie practically snarled and gave up on asking nicely, reaching over to jerked the pen right out of her hands.
"Hey!" Columba squeaked, frantically grasping for it back. Except Evie was nearly a foot taller than her and that wasn't working out so well. "Evie give my pen back!"
"You can't be a senshi, you're too young," Evie declared, completely ignoring that the Asteroids had two younger chibi senshi, and Irene wasn't much older than Dana.
It was okay for them, but not her sister.
"Damn it, *********, could you be more blind in who you hand this s**t out to?"

********* head didn't even move from it's current position at Evie's clarification.
"...seeing as I literally just met her five minutes ago... I don't know."
What did cause the manx to shift position was seeing Evie snatch away the henshin pen. Jumping up to all four feet, she hissed "Evelyn Caffrey! What right do you have to decide the fate of a fellow senshi?!"
Her fur noticeably bristled as she tossed in a reminder "Columba's actually older than several senshi I have met, and that you know as well!"

"Give it back, Evelyn!" Columba screeched, making a jump for it and just clutching at dead air instead.
"I don't care, I don't care," Evie was scrambling to find some logic for her know it all brain to spew at Hee about how this was not okay, but mostly? It was just not okay because Dana was her sister, damn it.
And part of her was selfishly projecting. Lately, Eunomia had been finding the senshi life unfulfilling and empty. She didn't want Dana to have any part of it.
"Dana, power down already, you're going to make a scene," She said with a haughty derisiveness that was obviously trying to compensate.
"No!" Columba stomped one foot. "You get to go out and be yourself and fight bad guys and do what you want. I'm old enough, Evie, I got awakened just the same as you, it's not fair!"
"Well maybe I shouldn't be powering up either," Evie screeched back, a mood swing just dramatic enough to make Columba clam right up and stare at her.
Evie huffed a few deep exhales and looked from Columba's wide eyes to the puffed guardian cat. "I-I... I mean, I've been thinking about this for a while," She struggled to regain her composure and calmly stand up straight. "Neither one of us should be bothering with this senshi thing, there are more important things out there."

The feline's back remained a bit arched as she had to witness the exchange going on between the two. A part of her was tempted to take on her other form to try and assist the younger teen in getting her property back, but she fought off the temptation when Evie said what she said.
Her back finally seemed to straighten out to something less hostile. She let a small bit of silence linger over the air before she also spoke out in respectful tone.
"Where as I understand your sentiments, Evelyn... One thing I would like to point out is you will always be a senshi. Whether or not you wear the fuku, and before you even received your henshin pen, you have always been a senshi. The same goes for Sailor Columba..."
The cat briefly nodded to the younger sister.
"...Even if you decide to retire, Evelyn... you will always still be one of my girls. I.... I may not agree with the decision... but I will respect it."

"No, we used to be senshi," Evie argued, and then looked at Columba, softening into an almost fearful expression. "That's what we were in the past, we don't have to be that now. I should worry about getting into law school, and my grades, and my job. Dana should be worrying about getting into high school and making normal friends and doing normal little girl stuff..."
Columba just looked like she was going to cry, but she was confused about why. She liked being a hero, something she'd come to realize after wrestling with her fear post-Carnival. She hasn't mastered her fear, or the problems she had with being a senshi, but she had decided it was worth trying such a thing,
But it was like Evie's own fears were contagious. She hadn't quite reached the brink of crying, yet, but tears were forming in the corners of her eyes and she sniffed hard to try to contain it.
"Dana--"
"My name is Columba," She screamed, slamming her foot into the ground. "You're so smart, you should know that!"
Evie still looked scared and hurt, and even took a step back at the raw outrage that had taken a level up from the tantrum she was throwing earlier, gripping the stolen pen tightly to her.
"You shouldn't get to decide who I can be!" Columba went on. "You shouldn't be such a coward about who you are either! It's my pen and my identity, and you can't take it away. You're not mom, Evie."
There was a tense pause where they just stared at each other, with Columba's outrage facing down Evie's frightened concern.
Until Evie broke the silence, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, *********. But..." She stopped, her eyes flicking back to Columba just briefly. "I'm done."
Columba exhaled a shaky breath that almost mimicked the sound of leaking gas before an explosion. But there was no explosion, just a vicious hiss. "You are definitely not mom." She kicked a piece of gravel at her from the sidewalk and ran in the other direction, leaving Evie to stare dumfounded and visibly heartbroken until she fell on her knees, holding the pen to her chest with both hands.
