She hated the dark, and being alone deepened the shadows and stretched the buildings. Every rustling bush sounded twice as loud. A gentle mew became a roar. She powered up to comfort herself. Maybe any evil-doers who saw the giant pink skirt or golden tiara would steer clear, thinking her crazy and thus, too dangerous for interaction.
HAI, she imagined saying to a kung-fu fighting, drunk, axe-bearing robber who would spring out of the bushes threatening her for her wallet, SEE THIS TIARA? I'M CRAZY BLUH. Then she would cast her attack and force him to look at the bushes.
Yeah.
She really wanted another guide through these streets, this life, this crazy war...

The area was quiet, familiar, and relatively tame. Cybele hadn't dared to venture into the darkest streets where Negaversers were likely lying in wait for souls, but even so she was nervous, constantly glancing around as she walked down the streets, peeking around corners and behind trees, despite the fact that her aura radar was telling her no enemies were nearby. It probabally would have been better if there was actually something to hunt, but since there wasn't her mind had nothing to do but turn every shadow into figures from various unpleasant memories. She'd been aimlessly wandering for quite a while when she finally felt something. Order. Despite her mixed feelings on the White Moon Court, it was definitely better than the alternative, plus she'd been given a few lectures on the benefits of not being alone. She walked towards it quickly. "Oh, hello," she said as she came into sight the other girl, smiling causally. Polite greetings were usually a good way to get someone to spend a little time with you. "I'm Sailor Cybele, Senshi of the Hunt. Are you... patrolling?"

SUDDENLY A WILD SENSHI APPEARED. She looked so fresh and light, and Medea's shoulders relaxed as she broke into a smile. She didn't completely understand the Senshi mission, but so far they seemed pretty and nice and strong.
Senshi of the Hunt, eh? Cybele didn't seem as brutal as Medea imagined hunting. She saw no blood or dying animals or furs on Cybele's outfit, and if Cybele hunted the Negaverse, then where were the heads of her enemies? The lovely flowing dress and purple flowers didn't seem brutal at all...
Unless they were brutally *CUTE*.
"Hey." Medea smiled. "I'm Sailor Medea, Senshi of Enchantment!" She gave a little pose, lifting her leg and winking as she rested her hand on her fist.
"I am patrolling," she added. "But this area is so scaryyy."
One of the nearby doors opened and Medea gasped and ran behind Cybele. PROTECT MEEEE.

For a moment, Cybele grinned, because someone this cheerful had actually ended up on her side for once. But then, before she could even say nice to meet you, things happened quickly and there was a senshi cowering behind her, a middle-aged man was staring at the two girls in their frilly white dresses with an expression of absolute horror, and his small dog was yipping fiercely at them. This was clearly a terrifying situation. Not. But it was one that Cybele didn't feel like dealing with at the moment, or ever, really. "We were just leaving," she informed the man coolly, since he did have a point. They weren't the monsters he thought they were, but they could easily snap his neck. "Come on, Medea. It's ok, but we should go," she said, grabbing the hand of the other senshi who she was clearly taking care of now and starting to walk briskly in the other direction. Hopefully she was faster than any insults would be...

THAT YIPPING, Medea thought, scooting farther behind her Senshi friend, IS THE SOUND OF CHAOS. She wondered how Cybele faced such terror. Curious about the beast's grotesque and fearsome form, Medea peeked over the Senshi's shoulder and found only a tiny dog with its owner. Still! Magical Guardian Huntress Cybele stood strong before potential danger--the dog could have been a fanged and spiky youma intent on pulling out her purple hair flowers or stepping on her feet! She shuddered. How could Cybele bear the thought?!
"Cybele, oh my God, you are so brave!" Medea looked upon her savior with sparkling gold eyes. "Even if you've been in this area before, you were prepared to protect me against danger! How did you grow so formidable?"
Cybele grabbed her hand, and Medea felt so happy that she and her friend were unharmed that she skipped lightly along.stari_maga Bwah. Thank you. ;u; Some people are just happy to be alive!

"Oh... um..." Cybele sort of managed as she continued walking, dropping the other girl's hand because there was no way she was skipping. Despite how adorable she secretly thought it was. "I'm not that brave." It was a simple statement that somehow managed to be free of thoughts of her past failures, probabally because she was stuck on thinking how dogs weren't scary. They'd avoided trouble with the man, though, so that was good. She stopped a little further away and turned to Medea, not knowing how to continue without sounding condescending. "Um... have you heard of youma? Or the Negaverse?" It would be nice having nothing to be scared of but shadows and dogs, but there was far more for both of them to worry about and not knowing about it was dangerous. Knowing about it wasn't much safer, though. "They're what I'm scared of," she said, voice growing quiet and bitter at the admittance. Anyone else and she probabally wouldn't have said it at all. "But there aren't any near here. We're safe."

Awww. No skipping? Okay...Medea laughed and clasped her hands behind her back. It wasn't in Cybele's character to skip, she supposed, being so elegant and subtly wild. Cybele reminded her of flowers breaking through concrete: She seemed to bear a quiet strength. Maybe one day, Medea could boast a similar one, but for now, she felt scared of everything...
"Umm~" said Medea, playing with her hair. "I don't completely understand youma, buuut one of them attacked me in the park...annnd I watched a TV broadcast about the Negaverse just before I became a Senshi. Aside from that, I really don't know much."
She frowned the poutiest frown. She must have seemed so helpless.
"Oh." She smiled. "I like safe!"
Huntress sensei seemed so cool! Medea felt Cybele knew about everything.

This time, Cybele didn't hesitate. "They're awful," she said, her voice fairly grim. This was the safest she'd felt powered up in a long time, but she still couldn't think of chaos without shuddering a little. But telling about the Negaverse didn't have to be pleasant, she supposed, just true. Actually, no. There needed to be hope. This senshi told her that, somehow, maybe because even in the war she seemed so happy, while Cybele had been sulking for weeks. She deserved hope. Cybele would pretend the story was an epic tale. That way there was a better chance of there being a happy ending. "They're worse than monsters. The Negaverse, I mean. They enjoy killing, they command beasts, the youma, they can rip out souls..." She stopped her slightly dreamy voice for a moment, meeting Medea's gaze "Really. Don't let them get near your chest. It's... " There was another short pause, but she could 't think of a fitting word. "Bad. Anyway, we're the ones protecting the city from them." Or something, but Cybele definitely wasn't going to admit how weak she felt or how little she knew. Not to someone who needed advice. "What did the news say?" She asked instead.

"Really?" Medea asked. Her eyes widened, and they would go near her...chest? That cut to the chase! She smirked. Cybele's warnings quieted into a pleasant drone as she imagined teasing a Negaverse agent about his forwardness. Oh no! I'm not that kind of girl! Then she'd wink. That could be cute.
Cybele met her gaze, and Medea wondered if she could read her thoughts. She wondered if Cybele ever flirted with the enemy. She definitely could! Pretty hair, pretty dress...she had all the equipment, but she seemed too responsible. Too bad these guys aren't for play... she thought with an imaginary sigh. But if they upset the warrior-huntress, they must be bad...
Still, the thought of flirting with an agent lingered in the back of her thoughts--a mouse under the bed, refusing to be caught; a speck of dust she couldn't wipe clean.
"Senshi are terrorists," she summarized, "And the Negaverse eradicate them for the safety of the people."
You know, she thought, because we're so threatening.

"Eradicate?" she repeated , frowning slightly. "That's what they try to do, it's true. You don't... actually believe it's for the good of the city anymore, though, right?" The news was worrying. Pegging everyone in the war as a general terrorist was bad enough for those involved, but at least it was the logical explanation for someone who didn't know what was happening, but if people thought the Negaverse was good... There was no way that could end well, but Cybele wasn't going to let herself think too much about it now. She made a mental note to watch the news later. Was... was Medea even taking her seriously? Cybele wasn't sure, but she didn't seem to be quite scared or cautious enough. Not that it was something that could be gotten mad about, at least now by Cybele, who was pretty sure she'd blatantly disregarded her 'the Negaverse is really evil' speech back when she'd been new. So she wouldn't keep trying to explain the horrors of the Negaverse to the other girl. Instead, if any got near the two she would crush them. Or better, convince the purple-haired senshi she could crush them herself. Theoretically. Both were a stretch for a girl who had lost most of the confidence in her crushing abilities, but she could try. "What's your magic?" she asked , encouraging and suddenly curious. "Enchantment sounds interesting."

Oh no! Cybele frowned! Her beloved mentor seemed upset and flirting with the enemy was definitely out of the question now. Bashful and ashamed, Medea glanced away. "Umm~ Soo~ Enchantment...Yeah! I can enchant stuff! I call it point-and stare because I touch an object, and then point to someone, and then they stare at it!" She smiled. "I would demonstrate, but I'm really tired, and if a youma or--agent?--stumbled along, then we'd be stuck here because I can't fight, and you'd be frozen in captivation!" She rested her chin on her hand. "Although, I guess you could close your eyes and run around and still be fine as long as the object is stationary, so it can't move into your line of vision..."
Powers were complicated. With a giant grin, she asked, "What do your powers do? Can you snare youma with a glance? Can you kill a bear with a smile?" She pulled back and brought her hands to her chest with excitement. "Ooh! Can you summon a BEAR MOUNTAIN?!"

"I don't exactly smile when I fight things..." Cybele answered, though she was smiling then. "Especially bears." There had been a bear youma at the carnival, and it had been awful. "Summoning them would be great, or taming them or something, but I like my power. I can make people... stronger." It was a little hard to explain. "It's like... for tracking prey, I think? But the best part is the package. Cybele Hunter's Grace!" A phantom bow appeared in her hands, and she showed it to the Medea, still grinning. Maybe she was right and she should save her magic for serious things, but it wasn't in her nature to resist showing off. Then, after few seconds of holding it out, she fired it at the other girl without warning. Hopefully the concentration boost she got from it would help her take seriously the things Cybele was about to say. "You can fight," she assured, suddenly serious. This was partially in refrence to the previous comment, partially to the dog situation. "Your power actually sounds better than mine for if you get in a dangerous situation, so you don't have to be scared, even of youma. With agents... be careful, but you can still fight." Then she smiled again. "Anyway, I bet you could kill a bear with a smile." It was easy enough to tell someone else to be brave and strong even if you were terrified.

Cybele seemed so cool! She could do more than hunt bears, she could summon bows and arrows!
But then...Cybele aimed the bow at her!
"Nooo!" Medea covered her head and shut her eyes. "Don't hurt meee!"
The arrow struck and Medea FELT CYBELE'S WARM AND HAPPY AURA LIKE OMG SO HAPPY AND FRESH AND NICE AND THE WORLD FELT SHINY AND NEW. THE GRASS WAS GREEN AND THE SKY WAS BLUE.
"CYBELE WHAT DID YOU DO."
Each of her words resonated loud and clear, and Medea zipped forward to give her mentor a hug.
"THANK YOU." She smiled. "Thank you for believing in me and for thinking I can fight!"

Cybele had been using her attack for a reasonably long time, so she was getting used to the various reactions of sheer terror it caused. Hugs afterwards were less common, and definitely more appreciated. She returned the embrace with a smile. "You're welcome," she said, stepping away. Hopefully all this meant she was doing all right at this giving advice and encouragement thing? Well... if it made Medea smile that way, it was probabally good, but if it made her smile and then go do something stupid and end up dead... That was still maybe better than being terrified? Fighters had a better chance... right? Cybele opted not to think about it, and remained cheerful instead. "So, do you feel better now? About 'this area' and dogs and everything, I mean?" Even to Cybele it was better with somebody nearby, but she'd have to leave eventually, and she didn't want the other girl to be a trembling mess when she did.

"Yussss." Medea smiled. "I feel so much better! Everything is so clear and you make me feel brave!"
Whether from the effects of the magic or her new friend, she couldn't tell, but she felt more aware and willing to explore than terrified. Cybele, the glorious huntress of evil and despair, believed in her, and that seemed enough to propel her to fulfill her duty!
"Cybele, you teach me so much! You make me want to be strong!" Her eyes sparkled. "Your mentoring serves me so well. I'm so lucky!"
She felt so sure that under Cybele's guidance, she would never scrape or bruise or weep.
