User ImageIt was late afternoon out in the roguelands. He was sitting in a patch of savanah bushes relaxing lazily. He was feeling rather pleased with a quality hunt earlier that day. He was also feeding more often than normal as of late. His family were still waiting on a few members to arrive in the meeting place before their caravan into their ancestal homelands. He was much looking forward to not just the trip, but he was eager about spending with so many of his family members in one big group. It wasn't too often it happened. Still, his parents had so many children. Some of them had their own children. He rubbed his chin and smoothing the side of his mane debating if it were truly time to have his own kids. Surely, it'd be nice to add to the hustle and bustle of family life. Also, as a male, he'd be continuing their family's line.

Then, he thought he heard the sound of some crumbling crunched rocks. Was that the sound of paws? He then sniffed the air. Well, it was strange, but it didn't smell threatening. He pushed the front of his body up on his front paws high enough to see over the rim of the tall grass bush he was in. His eyes peered cautiously from side to side before flickering on something all of gray. It was like a body of smoke as it were. Then he saw the flashes of red on it. Was that blood? Hmm. He couldn't really tell if it were blood or not. His vision wasn't always that great at such a far distance. His hearing and smell were much more reliable.

He then decided maybe he ought to just stay put. If that lion kept coming in this direction, it'd be upon him within the hour. Then, he'd be able to scope them out more thoroughly.

Randar was fairly tired of wandering. After losing her memory and finding herself absolutely lost, she had come to know a new life. That was this. That was all there was for her: walking through the rogue lands, not knowing anyone, not recognizing any one place, not remembering anything and no one remembering her. Whatever she had been, whoever she had been, she wasn't any more.

She was no one. Nothing. She had no purpose, no home, and could only just spend her time walking, watching, and wondering if anyone would come for her.

The bones she wore, the markings she had, they were all just as mysterious to her as anything else. She found she did not really liked them, and she only kept them with her because she thought that maybe someone would tell her what they were for.

She continued on her way, as she always did.

She didn't notice she was heading toward anyone until she actually spotted them in the distance. She stopped, crouching down and watching him, her ears flattened back against her head.

"Who's there?"

Tarik's eyes danced with curiosity. Cats were known for being curious, and it was still true for many lions. They were just great big wild cats after all. His eyes glittered, and his tail flicked around in the air. The fact she had perceived him and caught his lurking meant she had keen senses. At first, he wasn't sure how he wanted to handle this. Should he pounce her? Hmm.. No. That would only be if he actually knew her. He'd pull that on one of his sisters in a heartbeat, but he didn't know this one. Hearing the voice, he put two and two together with her scent and discerned she was a female.

He snickered to himself as he recalled a conversation he had with one of his sisters some time ago before the Tuait'tekem had dispersed to other places, abandoning ruins that never were really his true home. He recalled her poking fun at him for not spending more time with ladies. He had nothing against ladies. He just was very into hunting and guarding. Thus far, he was pretty absorbed with activities boostering his masculinity.

Finally, he decided to just answer her. He wouldn't make any sudden movements. He didn't wanna scare her after all. "Hello there. My name is Tarik. I'm but a traveler in this land. I am but a dustweed tumbling across the plain from hereto to thither. Since I've done your favor of answering you so politely; shall you do the same?" Waiting to hear someone's name. He wasn't sure why, but the idea of waiting on her made his tail flick even more.

"Tarik," Randar repeated, swishing her tail behind her. It did not ring any bells, but then, nothing usually did. She had made a couple new acquaintances since her memories started, but nothing from before ever came back to her. She was beginning to think she should just give up worrying about.

Let come what may.

"Why do you talk so strangely?" she asked, frowning as she sat up a bit, her ears perking forward. She was not sure who this guy was, but she was not intimidated by him, per se. She knew that her body was strong, and whoever she had been before must have been a fighter of some sort.

She didn't scare easily.

"My name is..." she did not know the whole of her name, the only thing she'd ever remembered was just the first part. "Randar." It still sounded strange to say out loud, like she didn't really own it.

"Randarrrrrr....." He rolled the r's just to feel how her name sounded off his tongue and in his ears. When the sound had faded, his ears wiggled. Yeah. He supposed that was a fine enough name. He then chuckled. "Haha.. yeah. I don't always talk like that, but sometimes I will randomly talk in various different ways. It's amusing. I like it. I come from a big family. If you don't distinguish yourself somehow; you may find yourself rather forgettable."

Though while he was listening to her and replying to her, his eyes were observing her every reflex. He then sunk down into the grass and slithered himself up to the front of the grass;letting his big lion eyes peer out from between the blades of grass. From here he could see her just better enough to watch her behaviors. His beady red eyes flickering. He wrapped his tail around himself for a few moments. His tail brushed across the grass behind him making grass behind him sway in the afternoon. "Well, at least I know so far you're not one of them hoity toity types who likes to speak all super proper and stuff. The land I used to live in had some who liked to talk that way."

She watched him nervously, but only because she was awkward in social situations, not because she was scared of him. She wondered if all big families were like his, or if she had one of her own. Maybe that was why she wore the bones? To differentiate herself from them?

She wasn't sure, and unfortunately she doubted she would ever find out about it.

His movements were confusing to her, and she lifted one of her paws thoughtfully as he crouched down and watched her from the grass. She put her paw down, though, when she saw he was just watching her, and wasn't going to jump on her or anything. She nodded her head.

"I don't remember where I'm from. I'm a little confused about things, and I'm sorry if I do anything that's weird, or if I think something you do is weird. There's a lot I... don't remember."

The concept of amnesia was a foreign concept to Tarik as it was to most who hadn't had first hand experience with it. He was trying to wrap his mind around it, but being the hunter he was, his level of understanding wasn't always so profound as to quickly grasp that meaning. He sat and stewed on it for a few moments playing with some of the shorter blades of grass. He wrapped them around his paws and felt each piece slide under an extended claw. At last, he knew that the sounds of this was rather daunting. He would have to take a good amount of time to really understand it.

At the very least, he did arrive at a point that it sounded incredibly terrible. This might be one of those things in life that needed a gentler touch. It required some TLC. He asked himself were he anyone with any right to give that to her? He couldn't remember meeting her before, so he figured he probably wasn't. Then again, with her not recalling anyone from her life. He then slowly got up from out of the grass and softly pawed his way over.

He stopped when he was much closer even nearly almost in front of her. His eyes reviewed her over again. He could see her trappings were rather well taken care of. This wasn't by far the first time he had seen a lion bearing bones as trinkets. Still, some of them were often more deteriated. His eyes then caught what looked like a rather bloody paw print. That was rather large. He walked over towards where it was. He held up his paw to see if the sizes were anywhere close.

"Well, I assume right away that such a loss of memory is a hardship. Suddenly, on second thoughts, I wonder if it's not a blessing. Maybe something dangerous or traumatic occurred. Then, your not being able to recall that thing might be a blessing. Maybe your mind protects you from something that your heart couldn't bear? Or.. just something all together too much a nightmare."

He put his paw down and swished his tail careful not to wrip the chain on his tail cuff.

Randar watched him, looking nervous and hoping she had not said too much, or too little. She was so uncomfortable these days, unsure of what to do with herself, truth be told. But it was hard to be sure of herself when she couldn't remember what she had been before. If anyone did know her, they might know something terrible about her.

And she was not sure she wanted to know.

She shrank back a little bit as he approached her, her neck sinking into her shoulders and her ears flattening against her head as she stared at him. She didn't bolt, at least, though her nails did dig into the ground a bit, making small pits in the earth.

"I don't know. You might be right," she said, considering his words. Was she just blocking out something terrible? She hated the very idea of it. "I don't think I'll ever know what happened before... or if I want to. I just want to try and... be a new lioness now, but I haven't figured out where to begin..."

He swished his tail with interest. "Well, now that right there is great! I know it may not sound like it or seem that way; but just think! Right now. You can be anyone you want to be. Just think.. if you wanted someone to on the spot name at least three qualities about you; what would you want them to be?"

He sat patiently waiting for an answer. He just sat there calmly and peacefully watching her. And though she already mentioned she had no memory. He finally started to also come to think that means that she is likely all alone. For who can be with anyone when they don't know to whom they belong? Did she have a family? For as much as he sometimes felt lost in his family; They were a great family to belong to. The small spark of a feeling of wishing he could do something to help kindled deep inside. His eyes might have shown it. He sat and started to look at her with eyes looking through what could be ways to be of use to her.

Randar looked at him quizzically, trying to understand what he meant. She felt stupid sometimes, and wondered if she had hit her head, or whatever it was that had taken her memory away. She understood after a moment, though, sitting down slowly.

"I think I would like them to think I'm nice... maybe quiet and shy, but... loyal?" She looked at him for guidance, as if she thought he might be able to better answer the question for her. He knew about as much of her as she did at this point, after all, but she knew that wasn't fair. He had only just met her, and he was already being very nice just by talking to her.

"You're very nice, Tarik. I appreciate it. I've been wandering for a while and it's been very lonely... I've been nervous to talk to anyone, and you've been the nicest lion I've met out here."

Tarik nodded his head to her adjectives she would like. "Nice is good. Who doesn't like a nice feline? Thanks for recognizing my own niceness. Though I do wonder at times if it's not so good on a male. It makes the ladies not really feel too attracted to you. They want the mean, nasty males to father their children." Then, he shrugged. "Meh... what can you do though, right? Can't make anyone else do anything they don't want to. And, even if you could, it's just as well. No point in finding a mate who doesn't really want you..."

He had gotten off track and got a little personal. He decided he better quickly cover it up or take it back or something. He might scare this girl off by being much too sharing with his personal information. It might fall under what some in his family referred to as "too much information" or "thoughts best kept to one's self". He then digressed back to all things about her.

He held a paw up in the air with a half shrug to the side as to reinforce her qualities. "Loyal is by far an exceptional quality. Loyalty is worth any other by far. The more loyal a heart; the less likely they would be to betray you. Nothing wrong with quiet and shy either. Some are given to be more talkative, and some are more given to listen."

He then got up and went to sit closer to her, right next to her even. "Yes. I had the flicker of a thought wondering if this is a lonely experience for you. I can at least help you there."

Randar shuffled her paws a bit, quiet and shy and looking very bashful. She stared at the floor for a little bit and blushed under her fur, though it was lost under the darkness of her pelt and the fur itself. She was glad for that, though she never thought about it, not knowing that one would turn bright red when embarrassed.

She was confused by his words, though, and looked at him thoughtfully.

"Why would anyone want a mean male? I wouldn't want someone who was mean to father my babies. I would want someone who was nice, and would take care of them. If anything happened to me, before they were grown, who would they turn to?"

No, she wouldn't want a mean lion. She had a feeling she used to be a mean lioness, but she didn't want to think about it.

"I am lonely," she said with a nod, "I don't know if I had any friends before, but I don't have any now. Or family. This is the first conversation I've had in a long time."

He just casually observed her movements and such. He looked off at nothing in particular in the sky. Then, his eyes slid to glance at her. "Well, keep in mind, it doesn't happen to everyone literally; however it sometimes seems like a lot of nice girls seem to just be drawn to guys who can be some big time jerks. Well, my family will be moving pretty soon to a new area. Maybe the lions there won't be that way."

He then started to look at her thoughtfully and with heavy amount of seriousness. He was thinking over the issue of her being lonely. "Well... Why should you have to be lonely? Tell you what... why don't you just.... stick with me for a while? Hmm? I come from a family that's incredibly large. Sometimes, I feel like I can get lost just among my siblings.. much less their children. I'll take care of you."

Then, he stopped to consider. What if the time came for his family to move on; and this girl didn't wanna go with them all? "Well, I'll just mention again. Eventually, our entire gang are planning to caravan back to some place where my ancestors came from. It'll probably be a small pilgrimage; but I'd be more than happy to take you with me. In a way, you wouldn't really be leaving anything behind. You'd gain me of course.. and probably my family as well." He wondered if that was too direct? Was it? He just wasn't good with girls sometimes.

Randar looked at him in surprise, ears perking forward. She had heard him right, hadn't she?

"You want to take me with you? It sounds important... moving with your family... you hardly know me, and I would hate to impose on the reunion..." she felt like she was becoming a burden for him, like he would take her with him because he felt bad for her sorry state of being. She was a pitiful sort, not knowing who she was and having no one to take care of her because of it, but she did not want to burden him with it.

"I don't want to ruin your trip, or make you feel like you're responsible for me... but if you don't mind me following you..."

She smiled feebly at him, ears still folded back shyly. She still did not want to spend her time alone, and even though she felt guilty for it, she wanted to be with others, and maybe this new place they were going to would be a good place to start.

"it would be very nice of you..."

He reached a front arm up in a movement that was almost automatic to put an arm around her shoulder. He had just instinctively wanted to put his paw on her shoulder that was on her opposite side while he sat next to her. He then stopped because he didn't wanna scare her again. When he was walking over here, she seemed really pensive.

"Mind if I touch you? Some cats just freak the crap right out if you touch them. I don't wanna scare you or anything. And, don't you worry about a thing. You either wanna come.. or don't wanna come."

With his other paw, he pointed to himself as he tossed his mane back. His eyes flittered as he looked at her. "If you came with me, you have to realize. Sometimes, I get to feeling like I'm lost in my family. There have been times that I just feel like I don't matter or am completely lost in the shuffle. While it's true that I'm from the younger litter; I still have no children of my own. I've not done my part to keep my family bloodline going." He paused as he rocked his head from side to side as weighing how exact and true what he was about to say. "I do like to sometimes complain about them. I might want to vent sometimes. I could end up being a complete bother. Even if you did come, you could at any time just decide you've had enough of ole Tarik here."

He smiled and brought his head a little closer to hers just holding it far away to not touch her. He lowered his voice and just said softly to her. "You won't follow me though. If you come, I'd rather you just come with me. You're not like some luggage or dead weight I'm bringing with me. You're just you. While we travel, we can discover the person you are now and are becoming." He began to feel then that he did really like the idea of someone else along for the trip. Someone who was there with him or for him. Someone who wasn't just an extention of another family member. Not exactly someone he could call his own.. at least yet.
