[ + Story + ]

The world of Avalar is a magical place, and is home to creatures beyond your wildest dreams. Avalar is home to three different Realms, where each Realm is home to several strange, distant lands that can be reached by magical portals.
Each Realm is home to royalty, Princes and Princesses that oversee the protection not only of their homes, but also of the creatures within the entire existence of Avalar. These Princes and Princesses are of different blood, race, and ability, but each share a special friendship with each other, a sacred peace that has lasted for what could have been an eternity.
The first of the Realms is known as Summer Forest; it is where the sun lingers over the sky, burning bright and hot – where there are no changes except for when the sun rises and sets. Flowers remain in bloom year long, and creatures roam the hills, change in neither temperature nor season. The castle of the Realm resides beside a calm, crystal-clear lake – this is where the Princess of Summer Forest resides.
Autumn Plains is as the name implies; here, it is Autumn year round. The trees, although they appear to be dying, always hold their colorful leaves – the transition between the seasons of Summer and Winter. The air is rarely hot, but the sun continues to rise and set in the sky, bringing a cool, autumn breeze for its creatures to enjoy. The palace of the Autumn Realm is set into a bold mountain, giving its Princess the ability to watch over all her Realm.
Winter Tundra, as you may have already assumed, is the Realm where the season of Winter is eternal. Creatures are yet abundant – those adapted to the weather reside within the realm. The landscape is dotted with trees, bushes, and mountains suited for the cold weather; as well as the occasional, not-always frozen, lake. And, though a rare sight within the Winter Realm, one can find a running waterfall (how else would they survive?), usually hidden within a cavern or connected to a small creek. The palace of the Winter Realm resides atop the tundra, protected by a dense forest of pine trees and marked by a large pool of water with dual waterfalls marking its elegance.

If the Prince or Princess can not be found in his or her respected Realm, they can be found in another Realm (visiting, for example), or in one of the separate Portals that are located within their Realms.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peace had existed for centuries; the Realms, never at war, never in disagreement, always without bloodshed. A special Festival of Peace was held in a different Realm each annual; where they would celebrate friendship, peace, sometimes feelings that blossomed of something more than just friendship. It had been like that, peaceful, since before the Princes and Princesses were born, and they were happy. However, their story did not have a happily-ever-after.

Not much time had passed after the conclusion of the previous Festival, a shadow had begun to fall over the world of Avalar. Darkness came, shadows brought fear to the creatures, and began to wreak havoc among the lands. It was as if they had appeared out of thin air – shadows, monsters, attacked the Princes and Princesses, tried to either capture or kill them. As if someone had planned it. The shadows were able to shape-shift, whether from miscellaneous objects such as weapons, or from the treasures that each Realm possessed. The skies turned black, but only for a few days; a sign, an omen telling the Princes and Princesses that they were in danger. Whomever, and whatever, was controlling these shadows, monstrous creatures, would not stop until they had complete control over both the nobles and the entire world of Avalar.

Fortunately for the Princes and Princesses, not every Portal they entire prove dangerous for their safety. A few, albeit limited, sacred portals still provide safety for them, protecting from their enemies, the Shadows. How? It is unknown even to the creatures that guard the Portals, but, regardless, those are the few that serve as the only safe places they can hide, rest, and regain their strength before they attempt to fight for their Realms, for Avalar.

And so, the story begins here, with the Princes and Princesses fighting for their lives, their freedom...

[ + The Three Realms + ]

+Summer Forest: The main realm of Avalar, home to the Summer Princess. It is summer here year round, with no changes in temperature whatsoever. While it does rain on occasion, it is always sunny, with hardly a cloud in the sky. The castle is surrounded by endless pools of water, in which you must swim through to reach most of its Portals. A forest also surrounds it, such as its name implies, in which there are abundant trees, small creatures, and plenty of flowers.

+Autumn Plains: The second realm of Avalar, home of the Autumn Princess. Again, as implied by name, it is autumn here year round with no changes in temperature either. It rarely rains here, and is mostly cool and sunny. The trees here are always colorful and never lose their leaves, and the pathways are lined with colorful bushes. Here, too, are pools of water, though more for decoration. The castle is surrounded by high stone walls, and several bridges connect to different Portals.

+Winter Tundra: The final realm of Avalar, bearing home to the Winter Prince. As you could have guessed, it is winter here year round with no changes at all. And, due to that, it snows here most of the time, with the occasional sunny day. Most of the water here is frozen, with a waterfall or two still freely flowing. There are plenty of snow-covered pine trees here, which are homes to small creatures.

+Shadow Realm: Not much is known about this place, other than that it appeared once darkness fell over their world. And, as far as anyone brave enough to go into has seen, it is covered in darkness and is home to the shadows.

Portals are simple in design, and serve as doorways to and from each of the Realms. In Summer Forest, they might look something like this; in Autumn Plains, the appear as simple stone arches; and in Winter Tundra, they form from ice.
Travel between the worlds as fairly simple; as one steps through (is pushed through, etc.) a Portal, the world goes black but for a brief moment, and it feels as though you are disconnected from your body. You land in the next world - it takes practice, but eventually one is able to land gracefully after traveling, rather than falling, being shot through the portal, and so forth.
They can be found under water, on floating islands - you name it.

The lands beyond the Realms are varying and wild; untamed, if you will. All kinds of creatures can be found in them - some living harmoniously, others quarreling over barriers and the like. Each Portal has its own destination, and each can connect the three Realms - if one wishes it. Few are sacred to the Prince and Princesses, as well as to the survival of their world, Avalar.

+ C r e a t u r e s

Centaurs are primarily found in grassy knolls; though, they prefer to live among rolling, green hills as far as the eye can see. Centaurs are known to be excellent healers, and will often welcome others into their abode for music and a meal.
Pans can also be found out in the open, or with in deep, densely-wooded areas. They are musicians with an excellent gift - and are often heard before they are seen, holding what appears to be a rather complicated flute constructed from wood. They enjoy music and dancing, as well as a good tale told over a roaring fire.
Fae can be found just about anywhere in any of the Realms. Their appearance varies according to the Realm that they reside within. The fae can be rather mischievous, and love to pick on any person or creature caught unawares.
Elementals, like the fae, vary in their appearance (according to the Realm they are in). Fire and Water Elementals reside within the Realm of Summer, as do a few Wind Elementals; within the Realm of Autumn, primarily Wind and Earth Elementals are seen, as well as a few Water Elementals; and in the Realm of Winter, Wind and Water Elementals are most predominant.
They are not spotted often, and tend to have a more wild, unabridged side to them as they move about the lands. Many come in the form of a natural disaster: a storm, tornado, or rock slide are seen here and there, though no one has actually been harmed by them.
Dragons are a rare sight within the world of Avalar. Much of their existence is believed to be myth, though spottings have been mentioned - in times of immense danger or threat, or once in a great millennia, such as when new rulers of the Realms are crowned.
Mermaids are seen wherever there is a body of water for them to occupy. Though they are not necessarily dangerous, cautions are given if one decides to hold conversation with these creatures.
Dwarves, although small, and often disgruntled, are still very friendly beings. They are often spotted (and live) near mining sites - they dig up gems, gold, and the like for the Realms and for themselves.
Phoenixes are almost as rare as dragons are in Avalar. They reside and breed where the earth burns hot, and rarely migrate far from volcano locations.

Large birds-of-prey also reside within each Realm - they are not a threat to those who show them respect, and are often willing to help the Princes and Princesses when they are called upon. (Owls, Falcons, Eagles, and Hawks.)

Draconians, also called dragonmen, are humanoid beings with dragonlike features.
Elves were originally thought of as a race of divine beings (wights, vættir) endowed with magical powers, which they use both for the benefit and the injury of mankind.
Fae are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers.
Nephilim are a race of descendants of angels and humans.
Angels (self-explanatory)
Demons (self-explanatory)
