I've always been curious why we choose the role play characters we do. Is it emotional attachment? Or a pseudo form of self-personification?
Share with me your reasonings for your choice of character? What makes them special for you? Or did you just choose them because they suit your writing style and you really have no fondness at all for them?
I'd really like to know. Feel free to discuss freely with me or among yourselves.

What a great topic to bring up!
To begin with, Gotham Rogues have always fascinated me, right down to the very core of my nerdhood. I've loved them all. My top three would easily be a toss up between Jonathan Crane, Edward Nigma, and Harvey Dent. Each villain just holds a special place in my heart. I can't stress that enough.
My favorite of those three, is obviously Jonathan Crane. I have several figures of his. One, which is the only opened collectable, is from the Gotham Knight set that was sold after the animated film was released. I have a DC Universe Yellow Lantern Scarecrow figure that I purchased at Walmart. Followed by a Blackest Night Series 8 Sinestro Corp Member Scarecrow that I snagged up at one of my local comic shops. Above him I have The Dark Knight Scarecrow figure from the movie, exclusive to Toys R Us. Finally, my most prized collection, is my Scarecrow Chest Piece that I found at the comic shop in which I attend regularly.
Among all my figures, I have purchased as many Scarecrow featured comics and arcs that I can find. Including some very old ones.
But why? Why do I enjoy him so much? I believe I have several reasons.
One is very hard to describe. It fits under that, there is just something about him category. That creepy, night stalker-like approach he has. The way he isn't this physical brute, instead a lunatic with intelligence that has been taken over by a passion which drives him to carry out his dirty deeds. If I ever had a "man crush", it would be on Jonathan Crane. When Cillian Murphy portrayed him in the Dark Knight Trilogy, I couldn't help but squeal like some school girl. Especially when he made his cameo in the third film, which I was not expecting what so ever. My friend, who doesn't follow comics, laughed his a** off while watching my reaction. He didn't understand.
Another reason, would be some similarity. No, I'm not as hideous as he is often portrayed in several artist's rendition. But most recently, in the Dark Knight comics coming out of the New 52, Jonathan Crane has an arc where they delve deeper into his life with a more modern way of expressing it. My biological father was hardly friendly, especially when he was mad. And seeing Jonathan attempting to trust his father despite what he was doing to his son just gave me an eerie reminder. I'm not saying I had a horrible childhood, but small notions can rekindle some unwanted memories. In this way, I can relate to him.
Also, I think I just have a thing for the whole "fear" aspect of a villain. I mean, come on! Sinestro is a complete badass!
When I roleplay as Jonathan Crane, something clicks. I just feel like the words flow easily. I can picture him in my head, moving about in his own wicked manner. Speaking with a horrific sounding echo. It kind of spooks me out.
And, as many of you know, I also RP as our Guild's Edward Nigma, whom I mentioned before as one of my favorites. I actually have a Hush series Riddler, unopened. It's one of my prized possessions. I've seen Batman Forever 75+ times in my life and I wish that I was kidding. But I'm not. I love the movie. Even if it has really bad reviews and if the characters are portrayed in a way that I personally would NOT prefer to see them played out as. It's just one of those mysteries of the world. Anyway, I use to RP as Nigma many years ago, somewhere in 2009ish I believe. I was DC The Riddler and in fact the very first person to put "DC" into their name, whether you believe me or not. I have on friend on Facebook who could vouch for me, seeing that she was my Catwoman at the time and ever since we have remained friends outside of Gaia. It would be me (as Riddler), her (as Catwoman), and friend from NY (as Batman). We'd stay up all night and RP with one another. It was wonderful. Anyway, I left Gaia for quite some time, only to return to an account that I forgot the email to. So, I started anew with Jonathan Crane. Edward will always have his spot in my heart, although Crane is now the ruler of my domain.
Hopefully you enjoyed reading this. I hope to hear from many of you as well!

Lady Talia al Ghul I've always been curious why we choose the role play characters we do. Is it emotional attachment? Or a pseudo form of self-personification? I just saw this! Where the heck have I been? And now I'm responding, feel like I am beating a dead horse to death... Again... Trying to get this guild some life back in it. Anywho, why I pick joker... He's been my absolute favorite from the beginning, then again I love all the total wackos, I'm eccentric in real life, but not a mass murdering psychopath, so it allows me to be a nut as much as I like, besides... Who wouldn't want to be Batmans ultimate nemesis and have Harley Quinn as a constant writing partner? As for the Mad Hatter, I have always been a fan of hatter from Lewis Carrol's book and when I found out there was a mad hatter in batman, I flipped my lid, my two favorite loves (besides my honey) rolled into one!? I had too indulge myself, plus mind control... My favorite power, and his awesome name Jervis Tetch, I could be intelligent and mad. The other I love is Scarecrow which I could never do justice... But adore. Really I like any of the bat s**t insane characters :3

I think for these past few months, I've been jumping around characters, trying to find my place and all that. My choice to choose Batman as a character to roleplay as was a little weird for me. Really because he's so overdone by the standard black armor avatar Batman, or like other people will tell me that he's an awfully boring character. I see it differently though considering Bruce Wayne really has so much character to him. I like the...dedication I'd say that he puts forth to do these things. The skills he's acquired, the knowledge he's received, and how he handles situations. He shares unique personalities with some of his main villains and overall Is just a really awesome character.

When thinking about why I chose d**k Grayson. I have a couple different reasoning(s) and those are going to be explained here for the first time. Back in 2008, around December I saw some DC cosplayers and was instantly goated and myself was thinking around that time, "I'm going to be in that group!" because mostly I was just a 'noob' who spent his time on Gaia really wasteless. Random meets in towns and what not. But when I saw the few cosplayers I did in Rally it was so surreal. I've actually NEVER been big into comics either which is really a big 'wow' that I'm kind of am now. So skip a ahead onto figuring out who I'd be and well I instantly thought about my favorite hero and that was Robin. From watching him being portrayed as Chris O'Donnell to watching him on Teen Titans, BTAS, and so much more he's always been my favorite character. So I chose him. Of course I wasn't the only one and I always myself wanted to stick out and be the best. Around that time I was immature and went about it the wrong way but I was really young.
A little long the road of it all after starting I was on and off as d**k. I was never that d**k that everyone knew or whatever. I didn't really start getting into guilds until my second tenure when I became d**k again and actually stuck to him. Even read a lot of comics surrounding or featuring him just to get a better feel of the character before realizing we weren't that different. He was actually the character for me. Hell, just a month or go I took a quiz and got him as my character to be. And it's always fun to be a character you don't have to get into. I can just be myself most times as d**k and still be in character. So it's why I chose d**k because I can relate to him. Not totally now, but just enough.
