It had come to a point where rumors weren't just simple rumors anymore; the whispers of a herd of Kalona coming were growing louder and louder, and Ukiyo-e's mother and grandfather had come to a decision: They couldn't sit idle and allow evil to prevail over the land. They had to stop the wave before it consumed them, and they had to do it together. Ukiyo-e had never been involved in something that felt so much... bigger than just herself before. Tarashikomi and Aizuri-e were already on board, but she still had a handful of children to track down and talk to. Even if they didn't join the cause, she at least wanted them to be aware of the impending danger and know that they would be safe.
Tracking down Nise-e wasn't as difficult as she had originally thought it might be. With the frequent visits, she new the general area that her daughter roamed, and so all she had to do now was follow the trail of destruction -- broken branches, crushed leaves, all the signs of a clumsy landing. If wasn't hard from there. When Ukiyo-e spotted the mare, she sighed and smiled, the familiar warmth beginning to fill her chest as it did each time she saw her children. Her tail swished behind her and she trotted toward Nise-e, Haboku running beside her to keep up, and called out to her daughter to announce her arrival.

“But Xander! I don’t need to find someone to give me better flying lessons! I know how to protect myself already!”
“And by the destruction you just created you’ve provided the perfect trail for predators to seek and find you. At least practice better maneuvers next time. For my sake.”
“Your sake, or your sanity?”
“Both.”
Nise-e sighed dramatically and looked up at her friend and partner, Xander. Her body language speaking one of a young adult just wanting to prove that she was more than capable of taking care of herself. Xander, for his part, just stared back at her calmly and poke faced. His eyes staring into her own with a resolute and finality type attitude. There was no room for disagreement. No room for him to have his mind changed. What he thought was final. And that was that.
The mare pounded her two front hooves into the dirt, clearly agitated like a young immature child who wasn’t getting what she wanted. And that was when Xander knew he had her. He may be the familiar, but gods knew he was the one in charge here. At least, when her mother wasn’t around. Truthfully he cared about his charge greatly, more so than he thought he would in the beginning. He had found Ukiyo-e years before Nise-e was born. In fact, they had become fast friends and he traveled around with her for a time before she met her current mate. And when Nise-e was born something told the mother that her daughter was going to need more guidance.
That was seriously an understatement.
“Fiiiiine Xander, I’ll practice more just to keep your feathers from falling off prematurely.”
Xander snorted, “my feathers thank you for your concern.”
His head then snapped to the side, eyes blinking as he listened to the nearby hoof falls. Familiar hoof falls to be exact.
“Nise-e, chin up. Your mother is here.”
Nise-e’s eyes, ears, and tail perked up dramatically. It had been a long while since she had seen her mom. Her mother’s familiar bounded out of the brush first. The fox a sight for sore eyes. The flutter of familiar, maternal wings as her mother came into the picture only heightened the feelings.
“Momma!” she called out in glee and trotted over to meet her mother in the middle, her wings vibrating in excitement.
“What are you doing here? You and Daddy weren’t planned to come find me for another few weeks!”
Xander glided downwards to perch on Nise-e’s rump. His softly glowing wings coming to lie on his sides. Already he was concerned. Something was going on. Ukiyo-e wouldn’t have sought out her daughter early unless it was something very important.
“Is everything okay?” he asked immediately, his concern completely evident on his face.

Ukiyo-e nuzzled her daughter as soon as she was close enough, happy to see her and Xander again despite the unfortunate circumstances that brought her here. It was good to see her in high spirits, too; it meant, at the very least, if the Kalona have already arrived, it wasn't here. "Can't a mother come to see her daughter early?" she teased, only for a moment, her smile bright and loving, but then she sighed and stepped back and looked to Xander.
"No, I'm afraid not. A new herd of Kalona are coming... a large one at that, and they're not friendly," she explained, her gaze shifting back to Nise-e. "The Kalona threat has always been there, but -- we haven't heard of one so organized before. Your grandmother is trying to organize a resistance, and we need all the help we can get if we're going to keep them out.""It would go a long way to have both of you join us," Haboku added, curing his tail around himself as he sat down and looked up at them. "Amaterasu is right, we're stronger together, no matter what comes."
