Hobbies: Wine Collecting || Tobias absolutely adores fine liquors. He specifically collects wine and scotch, and while most of it is back home in a wine cellar under his family's currently-empty London home, he's imported a number of his favorites and most prized bottles to the US. A major criteria in his search for a home in Destiny City was the presence of a basement (or already-existing wine cellar) and he considers himself very lucky that he both found a perfect place and had the means to purchase it. He attends auctions, shows, tastings, and any other opportunity to add to his collection as often as possible - and he's even willing to bid online or by phone if a particularly rare bottle comes up and he can't get there in person! On very rare, very special occasions, Tobias will being out a bottle to share - but for the most part, they're for show. And bragging.
Rare Books || Unlike his wine collection, Tobias's rare books collection is actually meant to be used. While he doesn't approve of handling them constantly, he enjoys both owning and reading old, rare, and sometimes unique texts. Books are to be read, but also to be carefully preserved, after all! The crown jewel of his collection is a 13th-century illuminate manuscript of The Book of Revelations, but he is especially proud of his early copies of
Le Morte d'Arthur, The Canterbury Tales, and
On the Origins of Species.Volunteer Work || Back in Britain, Tobias gave as much time as he could manage around his school schedule to a small shelter for victims of domestic violence, where they could stay in a safe place while their cases were worked on by the police. When he came to the US, he came with recommendations from his old supervisor, and he has started volunteering at a similar place in Destiny City. While he isn't a certified counselor, he does help talk to people and often acts as a calming presence - never mind that he has been known to frighten off men several inches taller than him. This work is what drove him to law - he wants to be able to help people in a more direct, actual sense.
Virtues:Collected || Tobias has a tight, careful handle on his emotions. He very rarely lets them overwhelm him, no matter what else may be going on. He prides himself, in fact, on how controlled he is. He tries his best to keep them at bay and look at things logically, and it is a rare occasion when he lets something slip through. This also translates to grace under pressure - he refuses to show fear or complain unnecessarily, and tries to keep composure at all times.
Ambitious || Tobias knows what he wants, and is driven to get it - and to work for it. As much pride as he has in his family name, he knows that it won't get him into law school or win him cases in court, and he is fully willing to put in the work to make it on his own. He dreams and plans big, though he tries never to let it run away with him, and he never shies away from the work necessary to achieve his goals.
Protective || Tobias hates to see anyone hurt if he can prevent it. Though it may not always seem like he cares about people as much as he does, he is willing to put himself in harm's way to keep others safe - especially if it's an innocent bystander, and doubly so if it's someone he really cares about. He tends not to think of his personal safety, either - preferring instead to rush in. This is one large hole in his goal not to be led by his feelings, but he can't help it.
Flaws: Cold || Tobias's lack of emotional affect often comes across as lack of emotional involvement. It isn't always true, but perception is more important than reality, in this case. Tobias has also developed some trouble expressing his feelings correctly at all - he's soused to burying them and cutting them off that when it's necessary to be emotional, he fumbles with it awkwardly.
Competitive || Sometimes, Tobi lets his ambition get the best of him and he gets a little too competitive. He's been known to burn himself out trying to prove he's the best, and any kind of defeat he takes deeply to heart - and works a thousand times harder to e better next time, which sometimes ends up being dangerous because he gets so focused on achieving that he forgets the little things like food or sleep. This drives people around him nuts in a number of ways. His friends get frustrated that everything has to be a contest, on top of watching Tobi hurt himself this way.
Reckless || In his desire to keep people safe, Tobi often disregards his own safety to the point of dangerous recklessness. It isn't exactly intelligent to stare down a man six inches taller and several times more muscular and put oneself in harm's way just to help someone else - but Tobi will do it, and he pays for it quite regularly. This also gets fed by his competitive nature, since he forgets to take care of himself when he's competing and he very regularly over-pushes himself and gets him into a lot of trouble.
