Jordan arrived at the training field a little before the time he'd chosen, and went through a quick series of exercises, warming up and loosening up; his coat was set to one side, and a belt with a pair of daggers was fastened around his hips. As he'd promised, he wouldn't be using Ferros for this spar.
Ferros hissed a deep, resigned sigh. He was less disgruntled about the restriction than usual. The fight with the Insanity creature in the Haunted House had let him feed well, and as a result, he was in a better mood.
I know, Jordan said in response to the edge of annoyance the dragon prodded him with. We don't want to break him, though.
I know, Ferros replied, only a little irritable. Polish me later and I will forgive you. Probably.

Al showed up right on time, Nuru already summoned to his hand as he set his coat aside in mirror of Jordan's current dress. "Hey man," he greeted softly with a wary smile. He looked far less terrified than last time.

"Hey, dude," Jordan nodded with a friendly smile. "You ready for this?" He stretched one last time, and rolled his shoulders. "Need a minute to get warmed up?"

Jordan sidestepped as Al rushed at him, drawing his daggers and opting not to take a swipe yet. "Try that again," he advised.

Al stumbled a little and turned his head towards the target he'd missed. He pouted and whined a little before attempting that again - unsuccessfully.

"Do you need a minute?" Jordan inquired dryly. This time, as he ducked to the side, he brought one of the daggers around, smacking the pommel solidly between Al's shoulders as he passed.

"N-Oh!" Al yelped as he was hit. It didn't hurt nearly as much as it should have but he spun around all the same to swing the head of his staff into Jordan's side retaliatorily.

"Oof - better," Jordan conceded, moving back. He rocked back on the heel of one foot, then lunged in again, raking the tip of one blade across Al's arm. His eyes stayed focused and alert, a smile tipping the corner of his mouth up.

Al could hear Nuru snarl in the back of his mind as he took another slice from Jordan's daggers. It stung but only distantly. Precariously. As if he only saw someone else getting slashed instead of himself. It was a concept that drew forth a smirk.
Al returned Jordans attention with a heavy crack of his staff against the back of a knee as he tried to move away.

Jordan's knee buckled at the hit; he let himself fall forward, using the momentum to roll and push back up without losing impetus. He turned and slashed the dagger in his left hand across Al's shoulder. "That was good," he said approvingly.

Al cringed at the impact and instinctively grabbed his shoulder only to pull back his hand and... right. No blood. Not yet. "Not good enough," he stated before charging in to swipe upwards at the underside of Jordan's chin.

Jordan's jaw snapped shut as the force of the blow made him stagger back a step; he rolled his neck to shake off the feeling, then stepped in to feint with his left blade, then bring the right one under and up an a rapid stab to the ribs. Al would have a charge now; that evened the odds quite a bit, so he needed to stay focused.

Al let out a strangled yelp as he felt that last attack more than he would have liked to. Nuru in the back of his thoughts going from a growl to an outright ROAR of fury. The staff in Al's hands pulsing vividly with power as it surged and erupted forth, engulfing Jordan in a massive but quick blast of flames.
