It ended with a very quiet car ride to the The Bookwyrm. Mercy sat, arms crossed across her chest - pointedly NOT looking in her mother's direction as they drove. She was all but holding her breath, watching as they moved closer and closer to their destination. Mercy should be happy, it had been over a week since she'd last visited the store where she'd come to find a little pocket of happiness. But no, she was upset - and it all stemmed from the woman in the driver's seat. Mercy had begged, pleaded and cajoled her mother into coming with her to the book club. She could plug her book! She could talk to Ms. Jessie about doing a book signing! But no, every time she came up with what she thought was a good reason for her mother to stay and spend time with her - she was rebuffed. It had ended in a top of their lungs shouting match as they'd gotten into the car, which was why Mercy was now pointedly NOT talking to her mother. As the car stopped, Mercy turned her wrist slightly to look at the small watch attached to her wrist. 5:30 pm, there was still another half hour before the club started. "Do you have your phone?" Her mother said calmly, gently - like they hadn't just been yelling each others heads off twenty minutes ago. "... Yes," Mercy said, clutching the small purse in her lap which contained a decent sum of cash and a cellphone she was to use in emergencies or if she needed to be picked up somewhere. "Call when it is over and either Dad, Myself or Johnathan will come and pick you up." Annabelle said to her daughter as she waited for her to get out. Mercy looked to her mother for one last attempt at getting her to stay. "Are you sure you don't want to come in? I'm sure Ms. Jessie would love to meet you, I showed her your book and she seemed interested....""Mercy, I already told you - I have to finish up the next book soon or my publisher will flip their lids. Now go, have fun, and call when it's done." Annabelle said with a level tone. Mercy just sighed and nodded, and slipped out of the car. She stopped at the door to the store long enough to smooth out her dress, the purple fabric mimicked the dress worn by Rapunzel in Tangled, it was one of Mercy's favorite dresses for that reason alone. She slowly started making her way inside the store and walked around the stacks. She wasn't sure where the meeting was held, but she hoped to run into Ms. Jessie - she was always so helpful.

It was another Monday night and soon the store would officially close and the bookclub members would either remain in the store or would arrive for the meeting. Unlike last week Jessie hadn't had a chance to make anything for this week but that didn't mean the game would not occur, it just meant that it would be just that much harder for the others to tell what she didn't make. She snickered as she stacked books, remembering how the game came about in the first place. The brownies looked normal enough but apparently they were so hard that even a knife just chipped it apart rather then cutting them into squares. Her neighbor joked that anyone could tell her cooking apart from normal food and the rest agreed so the game was born. The group would have to try to determine her cooking against store bought and brought in from others. Sadly most of the time they could easily pick correctly and only a few times had Jessie been able to stump them. With a muttered 'bahh' Jessie pulled her thoughts away from the meeting that would start in a half hour and focus on the shop. She looked up just as the door bells jingled merrily. She saw a small figured head into the stacks and had a sneaky suspicion it was Mercy when she realized that the dress reminded her of Rapunzel's dress. Tangled was a fantastic movie and the dress worked well for the general theme of the meeting tonight, 'Fairy tales'. The discussion was meant to revolve around the rewrites of the classics as well as the classics. The movie adaptations and how even the new books that weren't classified as fairy tales held to the basic story lines of the tales everyone grew up in. It should be great fun but first Jessie wanted to see this dress but it was not terribly amusing to heading after the young girl, or even calling out to her. So with a bright smile she sang out loudly, and a bit flatly, "Flower, gleam and glow/Let your power shine/Make the clock reverse/Bring back what once was mine" She hoped that Mercy would hear her and play along. They were alone in the store but for a few others who were staying so it wouldn't mater if they sang from one end to the store to the other, although Jessie might get a teddy bear in the face if she starts to sing Lady Gaga since John hated her.

Fiction1119 Likewise! Family got Sick, then I got Sick... Ffffff... Hearing the familiar song, Mercy stopped dead in her tracks, head tilting slight to the side as she tried to piece together who might be singing it. The voice was female, older, but still youthful... a bit flat, but not badly so. An untrained voice at worst, not that Mercy cared much. Her parents had gotten her a voice coach when she turned ten and had expressed interest in singing - but he'd plainly told her parents not to sign her up for advanced classes with him since he "couldn't work miracles." It wasn't that her voice was bad, she just wasn't a strong enough singer to go beyond the basics. Taking a deep breath, she straighten a bit and sang back. "Heal what has been hurt... Change the Fate's Design... Save what has been lost... Bring back what once was mine."Then she fell silent again, moving a few steps closer to where she'd heard the voice originally, hoping to catch a glimpse of Ms. Jessie.

Torvil oh dear. i hope everyone feels better soon ^^ being sick isnt to bad Jessie smiled brightly. She had gotten Mercy's attention and with luck she had also gotten the young girl to smile. Talking to herself as it talking to a friend she stopped at the end of a section, just out of site. "Pascal I think our secret is out. Go get Eugene." She couldn't help but snicker and stick her head around the corner, "Hello Mercy." Her hair wasn't blond nor as long as Rapunzel's but she had braided and let it hang so it slipped over her shoulder and hung there like a bad imitation of Rapunzel's hair hanging from the tower. "How are you today?"

Fiction1119 We're all pretty much on the mend now! But yeah, it wasn't fun by any stretch, but not the end of the world either X3 Mercy didn't even try to suppress the giggle when Miss Jessie stuck her head around the corner. She'd "heard" her talking and smiling broadly she tried to look around the corner from where she stood. "Hello, Ms. Jessie, or should I call you Rapunzel?" She looked up at the older woman. "Though if you really do have Eugene back there, you might want to keep a good firm hold on him - he's really dreamy and I would totally steal him from you."She stuck her tongue out at the older woman at that point - feeling in a somewhat playful mood. She didn't know what it was about Ms. Jessie but she couldn't stay upset for very long around her. "I'm doing... okay. I had hoped to get my Mom to come and maybe talk to you about stuff for her book, but she's... too busy with the next one and can't make time. I'm sorry." She wasn't sure why she was apologizing either - it wasn't like Ms. Jessie had asked her to get her mother to show up. "I just thought it might be... cool?"Her fingers gripped her dress for a moment in frustration over the entire situation and her mood started to waver for a second, but she let out a slow calming breath and smiled at the older woman once more. "I'm not late am I? I was hoping to get here a little early so I could find you and figure out what exactly I needed to do for the meeting."

Torvil Oh dear that sounds a bit omonious XD “I’m much older than Rapunzel and my hair isn’t long enough.” Jessie flicked the very end of her hair in Mercy’s direction. “He just left with Maximus, something about an adventure with a dragon or a witch or something like that.” Besides she actually had a bit of a crush on someone else… not that Jessie would ever get up the nerve to say anything and the guy was even more oblivious then Jessie was. Jessie turned the corner and motioned for Mercy to do a little turn, “Love your dress darling.” After a moment she did her best to make the younger girl understand things from her Mom’s point of view. “That’s ok Mercy. Most authors need months in advance to set up events and when working on a new book… finding the time to even eat can be difficult. And when things come to a complete stop it becomes frustrating and angering at the same time because you know what needs to happen but it just doesn’t occur.” Jessie had over a half dozen composition books in her apartment with what seemed like hundred story ideas, chapters, character information and none of them completed. Jessie had so many ideas but it was nearly impossible for her to be able to finish a story to turn into a publishing house. The best she was able to do was writing fan-fiction, and she even had trouble with those too. She smiled down at the young girl, “It was a very good idea but it would be best to work on it rather than surprise her about it. In general more time would be best anyway because then we could advertise it and get it out into the community that she will be here. It would get her book and the store more press that way.” The bell over the door tinkled and Jessie looked over her shoulder to see one of the meeting regulars amble in. Waving at him Jessie looked at her watch, “Late? Nope at this point we still have fifteen minutes to go before the store is closed officially for the night. As for helping I’ll enlist your arms at six to help bring down the food but until then wander and think about the theme for tonight.” She snickered and added, “You are dressed for it at least.” Before heading back to the main desk where she rang a bell and hollered out the time along with a warning that the store would be closing in fifteen.

Mercy complied, turning in place so that Jessie could see the whole of her dress. It was pretty much a scale replica of the dress from the movie, something her mother had worked on for her for Halloween last year. They hadn't been able to find a wig for her, so she'd had to go without, but she'd made it work all the same - just going about as a princess instead of Rapunzel herself. "I will remember that," She said with a nod, realizing now that she might have been just a trifle unfair to her mother, and now less angry with her. All the same though - she was still a little mad. At the mention of being enlisted for help she smiled and nodded her head. "I won't wander far then!" Nodding her head as she watched Jessie head back to the main desk. She moved down the stacks close by, looking at the books as she went.

Torvil sorry about the slight delay dear The last few minutes of the store being open went fast and as Jessie waved the last customer through the door she flipped the ‘open’ sign over to read ‘closed’. There were already a few people for the meeting in the store but any stragglers knew that the door wasn’t locked. She nodded when one of the guys murmured that he would be right back, apparently he had stashed his food contribution in his car since he didn’t want to have to carry it around with him. It would take a few moments to get the food situated and grab a few of the folding chairs since the other chairs weren’t really something anyone wanted to drag out from the nooks they were situated in. Waving to the two women who came in the door Jessie ducked into the shelves close by, looking for Mercy. It would be interesting to see what the younger girl thought of when they ascended to Jessie’s apartment to grab the snacks. “Mercy?”

Mercy's head snapped up from the books he was skimming, it wasn't anything special so she simply put it back on the shelf and scooted to the end of the stack toward the sound of Ms. Jessie's voice. "Here, Miss Jessie!" She sang out as she rounded the corner, waving her hand over her head to make her more visible. "Is it time to go?"

Torvil Jessie has too many books >.> Jessie spotted Mercy as she came around a bookshelf. “Yup though we aren’t going far.” Most of the snacks were gathered on her kitchen table in grocery bags, not that there were many, but there were a few that were on platters and the drinks as well. All of it was store bought but she wanted to try to confound the group. She hoped the cookies, brownies, and peanut brittle were good choices to mess with the group. Last week she had made cookies but they were figured out pretty fast, she could only hope that they figured she would try to make up for last week and go with something she had done before… hence the cookies and brownies… but added the brittle as a possible, ‘simple new try’ to confound them. Jessie knew she was thinking about this unofficial game too much but it amused her to no end. Jessie quickly made her way up the main staircase, a little way’s away from the main desk and front door. She had to pause to take down the ‘CLOSED, private access only’ rope that stretched across the worn wooden steps half way up. The rope was really a formality since the stacks of books started at that point as well. They were books that had yet to find their way in to Jessie’s personal collection but if someone really wanted one on the steps Jessie didn’t feel too bad getting for them, after all she hadn’t paid for them yet out of her own personal book budget… and she could always get a new one. They were stacked against the wall and against the banister leaving a much smaller tread to walk. “Watch your step Mercy, wouldn’t want you to get hurt in a book-alanch.” The books were stacked largest to smallest so they shouldn’t fall but it wouldn’t take much to send the books and the person stuck with them, down the stairs in their own personal avalanche of books.

Mercy followed obediently, hands holding her dress lightly to keep them from reaching out and touching anything they shouldn't once they got into Jessie's private quarters. However, once they got up the stairs, Mercy's mouth fell agape and a small barely suppressed squeal issued forth. So. Many. Books... Books for days - no YEARS. It took every ounce of willpower that resided in her tiny frame to not immediately reach out and try to snag one of the nearest stack of books. Though, at Jessie's warning, she tightened the grip on her dress and nodded resolutely. Yes - wouldn't want to get crushed in a book-alanch. "Yes, Miss Jessie, I wouldn't want to be swept away by your marvelous collection."Taking smaller steps, she did her best to avoid disturbing the towers of books, almost walking on tip-toe. Fiction1119 Mercy doesn't think so XP

Torvil i kinda really want her 'bookshelf' furniture ^^' A quick pause at the top of the stairs to unlock the door to her personal ‘tower of Babel’. Her apartment was rather large but because of the many bookcases and various stacks of books it felt much smaller. The stairs opened into a small hallway that ended at the bathroom and opened up to the living room which was more like a library since nearly every wall without a window had a bookcase on it full of books. Many surfaces that could be converted into bookshelves were, like the coffee table and the end tables. Even the tower ‘room’ was full of books, although they were fewer than the rest of the open space since three out of the four sides of the space had windows. She led the way towards the French doors that opened to the small veranda overlooking the garden and was right next to the open kitchen, the island the only thing separating the small area from the rest of the living space, and even that was converted it to bookshelves… although to be fair it was only the ‘outside’ of the island that had shelves while the side facing the appliances had cabinets. The kitchen table was really acting more like a desk at the moment since most of it had books piled up and a laptop open next to a few scattered random books. “Sorry about the mess. I haven’t had a chance to shelve all the books yet.” Jessie glanced around at the many stacks, towers, tumbles, and piles of books scattered about and mentally added, If I can even get them all on the shelves. She grabbed the two grocery bags with chips and other light snacks in it and held them out to Mercy. “They are a bit bulky. Do you think you can handle them?” If Mercy could handle one of the bags, if not both, that would leave Jessie both hands free to handle the cookies, brownies, and brittle platters that were on the island top. Jessie’s hands would be full but Mercy should be able to get the door for them both. If not two trips would be ok either way.

Mercy took the bags without question, nodding her head slowly as she tested them in her hands. Jessie had been right about their bulk, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. She'd done her fair share of unloading the trunk on grocery days, so it wasn't an unusual sensation for her. Lifting the bags slightly above her shoulders, she smiles at Jessie before moving back the way she'd come. She took her time navigating the morass of books and other debris that made up Jessie's personal sanctum. She was trying really hard to stay focused on the safest path through, and not getting distracted by the sheer number of books laying around. Once she'd safely navigated down the steps, she waited patiently off to the side for Jessie, letting her be her guide.

Jessie quickly traversed the steps and placed her platters on the front counter before turning to Mercy. "Here is were the food and drinks will be set for the meeting although the meeting itself is throughout the store. We just need to get the bowels, cups, napkins, and drinks from the break room." She said after she helped the young girl place her load on the counter as well. They would have to wind their way though the stacks but at least it was less dangerous then then traversing her apartment again. "Hold on just a second." She headed back up the stairs to lock the apartment door and rehang the rope since she didn't really want anyone heading up there during the meeting... they might move some books and she had them sorted in a particular way. With that set she gestured to Mercy to follow then headed into the back of the store. Next to the small bathroom was a door that had a sign 'Employee's Only' tacked to the front of it. When Jessie opened it she reveled a small room that had cabinets, a sink, and a mini fridge as well as a door that led outside. It was sparse compared to the colorful clutter that was the rest of the store with only a vase of bright flowers on the tiny table providing the color. Jessie quickly located the bag of plastic cups and the stack of napkins left over from the last two meetings. "Bowls.... bowls... where are the bowls?" Jessie murmured as she opened cabinet after cabinet looking for the stack of colorful plastic bowls.... completely missing them siting on the fridge under a stack of paper plates.

"Uhm, Miss Jessie..." Mercy said, pointing at the bowls that were stacked under the plates. "Are those it?" She was lower to the ground that the older woman, so she had a better view of everything from the floor up. It had been pretty easy to locate the blows seeing as they were pretty much in her eye-level. She smiled at the older woman, happy to be of help if those were, indeed, the bowls she had been seeking, but her eyes were also roaming the rest of the room on the off chance that they weren't. It never hurt to be sure. Fiction1119 OMG I'm so sorry this took so long to tag - life has been eating me alive for forever OTL
