The Calling Summoners Captain

This is the story of how the shop came to be. Please don't post comments here, instead do them in the main thread please. It happened some time ago, when the first human and Calling met. Some say it was by chance that the two came to each other, but I know what really happened. I after all was there. No, I'm not the first Summoner, I was just an apprentice at the time. Though he is long gone now his monument is still here, and I pass the story to you now. If you wish to hear it that is.

When I was young Magic was one of the things you read about in fairy tales and sort of wished for, but could never get. I met my master, Renjam, on my seventh birthday. I had gotten some birthday money and was looking to spend it. I had gone into his shop, which at the time was a jewelry store. I had an argument with a friend and a glass display case somehow got broken; that part is a bit fuzzy to me now. Either way I started to "work" for him to pay him back for the broken glass. You know, just sweeping or cleaning the other glass cases.
I started to notice that some of the customers were there for the expensive gems, but others weren't. At first I thought perhaps they were friends or people there for an interview, but then I started thinking otherwise. He kept taking them into a room in the back and they would leave with packages of all sizes. I told my parents, but they thought it was just my imagination, mostly because one was always there with me and saw nothing. There were child labor laws back then as well.
So one day, after having worked off the cost of the broken glass case, I went back to see what was behind the door. I said I had gone there by habit, and wanted to help out. Amazingly he bought it and gave me the broom to sweep, and said I could come back to do it whenever I wanted, because he liked the company, or so he led me to believe.

When I knew he was clear of the room I made my move and snuck over to the door. I was ready to pick the lock, but to my surprise and relief it had no lock. Slowly I opened the door and slipped into the other room.
The room was big, round, and made of stone. Archaeologically speaking it couldn't have been attached to the jewelry shop on the other side of the door behind me. On one side of me was an assortment of old books, on the other, odd shaped bottles with liquids of practically every color. In the center of the room was a big black pot that I could have used as a tub. Under it were green flames. I could hardly believe my eyes, fire was never green, blue sometimes when super hot, but not green! In the pot another liquid, light pink in color, and thick like gravy, and when a bubble popped it smelled like freshly baked cookies.
I went over to the other door and looked out and couldn't believe my eyes. I now knew I wasn't at home anymore. The door that connected to the jewelry shop was a portal to.... well to wherever I was at that moment. It was like being in a fairy tale book. The fields were green and lush with mountains not far off, a clear river flowing, and some cabin homes nestled down a dirt road.
"Nice view isn't it?" A familiar voice said behind me, making me jump out of my skin.

When I turned around I saw who it was. Mr. Renjam. I must have looked like a deer in the headlights because the next thing he said was, "I had a feeling you saw the door. You may want to close your mouth or you'll catch flies." I then realized that my mouth was hanging open, if a little, and closed it not knowing how to get out of the mess I thought I was in. "Your parents thought you were crazy?" he asked. I just nodded my head. He chuckled lightly, "Don't worry, you're not in trouble. Not like when you broke the case."
"I'm not?" I asked, then in a split second got mad. "But I didn't break the case, it did it on it's own!" I huffed, annoyed that he brought that up.
Mr. Renjam smiled a little, "That's not what the tape says," he said sounding amused. He went over to the bottles and picked up a small round container that was green, and went over to the bubbling pink goop. When he opened the container it looked as if it had blue moss, which he put a pinch of into what was cooking in the pot. If blue and red make purple, then pink and blue make tangerine. He then stirred it with a big wooden paddle, though it was still as thick as gravy. The cookie smell was now mixed with gym socks. Not a pleasant smell in the least.
Once he put the moss container back he turned to me. "I want to train you to be a magi," he said.
I looked at him dumbfounded, "You want to train me?" I asked. Confused didn't even start to express the feeling I had.
Mr. Renjam nodded, "Yes that's right, I want to train you. Being young makes it easy to learn new things," he said rubbing his nose a little. "The fact that you could even get...." He stopped a moment as he looked out at the lush outside, "The fact that you could even get in here without me, means you have great, untapped powers. You see, we are still in the jewelry shop, but most don't see beyond what they want to see. This room is designed to help people in ways that they need it. You're the first to see this unfinished world," he said.
I looked at him confused. "Unfinished? What do you mean?" I asked looking back out. "How can a place be unfinished?"
