User ImageThe territory was not exactly what Kenna had been expecting; when she thought of the so called 'Storm born', her mind instantly went back to her childhood, to the stories her father had told her of the Mistweavers, and their lush, dense, green jungle territory.

This was nothing like that.

This was also nothing like the desert back home; the dirt had given away and become rock, big water, the ocean... could be heard somewhere, splashing and roaring against cliffs here and there. Kenna wasn't sure what she'd been expecting to find, but it certainly wasn't this. Point goes to the Stormborn, she thought to herself as she padded slowly along the terrain. Her bright red pelt, which had concealed her without too much difficulty among the dunes of the desert, seemed to stand out against the darkened territory.

As she approached the barriers, she took a moment to lift her front paw, flexing her claws in and out. While size was most likely on her side (she'd met very few male rogues bigger than she was), size was most definitely not everything when it came to fighting. She'd learned that long ago; a smaller frame gave the opponent agility, speed... and often caught the other party unaware. That, along with the fact she felt rusty made the ex-queen realize she the odds were not in her favor.

Still, win or lose, she'd take some tactics and information back with her; a good fight was never a lost fight, she decided. And that in mind, she roared out her challenge.

Mogani
11? Kenna, that was a pityful roll, baby, but it's okay. *Pat pats*

Lesedi was one of the lions on patrol. The Reaver lifted his head as he heard the roar and made his way towards its origin as quickly as he could without running. Though not feminine in any way, he was almost certain the roar had come from a female and the thought bothered him slightly. It seemed most of the outsiders he dueled were lionesses and he’d never felt particularly comfortable fighting those of the opposite gender, regardless of their skills – which, he’d found through a few unpleasant experiences, were not as little as he often assumed.

He wished he could just send her away. If she was ridiculously weak, he decided he would do just that as he had no need or patience to acquire and train another thrall. He doubted it, though. Anyone who could put that tone of challenge into a roar, must have some level of confidence in their abilities. And when Lesedi saw the fiery lioness, he was certain. That mountain of a lioness had definitely come for a duel. She was as big as the father he had never known, an unfulfilled promise that his genes had failed to deliver as Lesedi was the size of an average rogue male.

“Have you come to duel?” he asked as he drew closer and he had no doubt that the answer would be affirmative. He watching her carefully now, his eyes picking up her every move.

User ImageKenna had been taught from an early age that talking was best reserved for after the fight was over, and if need be, for during the fight, in case she needed to push an emotionally unstable lion over the edge. As such, when addressed, the ex-queen hooded her gaze and merely offered the male a small, but polite nod. The dueling system was not unlike that of the firekin, she presumed, and it was best to reserve her strength for the fight, for now.

After the curt, polite nod, the lioness took a step back away from the male, rolled her shoulders, her neck and then lowered herself down into a dueling position, her eyes narrowed as she watched him silently. It was clear from both her scars and her pose that she'd seen more than a few fights; in fact, back home, Kenna had helped more than once with joining challenges, and though she'd often been told she needn't worry herself with such things, she'd insisted, until she'd given birth and the cubs had taken up most of her time. Now, feeling her own muscle grumble slightly at her, she cursed the fact she'd let herself go; this fight would probably have to be an informative one, rather than a victorious one.

She'd test the waters, try to figure out the way they fought and adapt her own style to fight.

Despite the fact her body was obviously used to fighting, confidence did not roll off of her in waves; she'd found pride often came before a fall, after all. As such it was best never to sub-estimate your opponent. She'd also learned that offense was the best defense and as such, decided to move things along, waiting until the lion prepared himself before charging forward, delivering her first attack; a sharp swipe of her large paw.

Dark Fire Angel
Lol, I never watched that anime. I read the manga, though, so maybe that counts... xD

Lesedi appreciated the lack of introductions. Rogues sometimes liked to give their names, place of birth, reason for joining and whatever else came to their minds before starting the actual duel and it was refreshing to just get on with it without having to deal with all that nonsense.

The green-eyed reaver wasn’t a very sophisticated fighter and he had a tendency to throw himself forward and attempt to overpower his opponent’s through brunt force and viciousness. At once, he could see that his usual style probably wouldn’t work in this case. His fights with Ru had brought him some degree of patience so even if his instincts were still there, he also knew to be cautious… even if that state rarely lasted long.

He jumped back and to the side to dodge the orange paw, hoping he wouldn’t get hit by the heavy-looking blow and quickly readied himself to strike back at her head. He wanted to get her off-balance especially if she wasn’t used to the rocky terrain as he suspected.

User ImageFighting over slipery, humid rock was not at all like fighting over dry sand. Not even sand dunes were like this; Kenna found she should have practiced over rocky terrain before coming over here, but then again... this fight could also be considered practice.

Her paw did not connect with the lion, and though she'd counted on as much... she did not count on the slippery terrain bellow. When the lioness moved to pounce, hoping to catch the male off-guard after doging her swipe, the lost her footing slightly, and rather than pounce on him, skidded slightly to the side.

There was a visible pause as the lioness righted herself and looked down at the ground with a tilt of her head, "Hmmmm..." the sound was one more of curiosity than frustration, almost as if she'd just realized she hadn't stopped to consider this, or factor this into the fight and it were an interesting thing, rather than a bad thing. A beat passed and her attention swiftly refocused back on the male as she unsheathed her claws in an attempt to better grip the rock below her, "Not at all like the Desert back home," the words rumbled through her, calm, interested but restrained, "It's quite interesting," her words were meant as a compliment, however, as soon as she spoke, she lowered herself back down, and the look in her eyes changed to focus on the battle again, this time waiting for the male's attack.

Mogami
Lmao me neither XD But I always remember hearing that for some reason.

Lesedi made half a motion to attack just when Kenna partially lost her footing but the orange lioness recovered too quickly. He moved sideways, looking for a weakness that wasn’t there before deciding to keep the lioness moving and slowly push her against the sharpest rocks.

The reaver’s ears swiveled forward for a second and for the briefest of moments he actually looked mildly curious about what the large lioness had just said. He’d seen a desert once but had not dared travelling too deep into its inhospitable lands. Anything he wanted to say on the matter would have to be said in long sentences so he remained silent until Kenna’s focus had returned to the duel before he lunged at her with the intention to grab her with both paws and to use his mouth to latch on to whatever he could grab.

User ImageHe was guiding her, herding her towards a destination; Kenna knew when she was being guided, and her ears swiveled back against the nape of her neck, her teeth baring at the male as she made a conscious effort in moving in any way possible except the way he seemed to intent in moving her towards.

Trap, her mind told her gravely, it's a trap.

She allowed the notion to remain at the foremost part of her mind as she attempted to regain her footing in a way that would allow her to pounce and flip the male back. He had an advantage in the form of his mane; grabbing a male's neck with one's maw through the thick of the mane was hard. Near impossible, even; any attempts were met with mouthfuls of air. Kenna's neck was bare, like other females, and she'd always known it left her at a distinct disadvantage.

The eyes, always go for the eyes.

Still, the male was proficient and she found no opening from him; by the time the male pounced for her, Kenna had come to the conclusion that she had lost this round. She'd not accounted for the rocky terrain, or the slippery affect it'd have on her actions, though at least she'd learned that his fighting style very much mirrored that of her own pride, so that was something she could now shove out of her mind.

Given that she could not block his blow, she met him halfway there, attempting to shove him away from her form, her teeth and claws attempting to at least leave a parting gift on his body in the form of a scar; she'd likely have her own at the end of the battle too, but then again... that was okay. He wasn't aiming to really maim, and any actual injuries had been shallow. There'd been general restrain exercised. This had not been a battle to the death.

He had her, and though she'd defended herself, he'd still managed to best her. Good for him, "I yield," she told him calmly, almost business like, matter of fact-ly as she narrowed her eyes, waiting for him to move, "I forgot I was not playing home here," her claws unsheathed and scratched over the slippery surface of the rock as she spoke.

"It's a trap!" xxx

As a general rule, Lesedi was a loud fighter, growling and snarling as if he was fighting for his life in every duel. Being surprised by the size of the lioness, fighting a female and even Kenna’s words had all tempered his usual behavior but during the last exchange of blows, the old habits came back with a vengeance and the reaver was snarling like a demon, snapping his jaws in a rapid succession of biting attempts that never quite managed to reach their intended target. One of her claws found his brow and Lesedi flinched away as the skin broke, leaving him with a deep gash that started to bleed over his eye. And as quickly as it had started, it was over.

“One adjusts quickly.” He said slowly, lifting his head as the cold wind ruffled his mane. He didn’t really feel like he’d won today and while it was true she hadn’t managed to best him, Lesedi wasn’t pleased with the fact that he hadn’t been able to overpower her either. He had no doubts she would join the Stormborn ranks soon enough. He took one step back, signaling his acceptance of the fight’s end. “You’re not at your best today. You can try again as many times as you wish but I should warn you… the new Warlord has forbidden female reavers. You will not be able to become a fighter even if you win.”

User ImageThe lioness remain upright as the male took a step forward, her head lifting slightly to squint at the darkened clouds, which seemed to threaten rain, "Hmmm..." again the same sound, as if she were deep in thought, pondering something over before she turned her focus back on the male and his words.

A slow, strange smirk graced her maw after she took his words in, the first sign of positive (albeit unsettling?) emotion she'd offered since her arrival, "That's... interesting to know, thank you for the information. I don't think it's going to deter me though," her eyes squinted at the near distance, "You said 'new warlord', did you not?" her smirk widened slightly as the first drops of rain fell from the sky, "New implies recent, and recent implies change," her smirk had vanished, and she finally turned around, her head lifting as she offered him some parting words, "Times change," she called after him, "I know that better than most."

That said, she left like she'd arrived, silently, politely.

She'd be back after she'd had some practice, hopefully with some would--be challengers that she knew hung around the borders of the pride.

Iiii think this one's pretty much ovah! I think it needs one more from you XD You wouldn't be interested in a rematch so soon, would you? I'm actually enjoying this.

Lesedi nodded briefly, silently considering her words. Njal was a fearsome fighter who had defeated the previous Warlord in a fair fight but the reaver wasn’t naïve enough to think that he was invincible. In this pride alone, there were many – many! – strong fighters and Lesedi didn’t doubt that some of could defeat Njal if the circumstances worked in their favor.

“Until next time then. One day I will kill you.” Lesedi said quietly before he turned to leave.
