Tristan sighed and flipped a page. She had finally found a great place to study without all the hustle and bustle of the commons room of her house, the intense quiet of the library, or the continuous droning babble of her room mate in that extremely awkward accent. Southern Americans had an unusual way of speaking and it made for a rather difficult time understanding whatever it was they were trying to say. If not comical from time to time.
Tristan nibbled her lip and tilted her head as she read on. She had discovered a few books in the library that she had yet to glimpse over, so she managed to borrow them for her little personal time outdoors. She was currently reading "Various Remedies for 'Wild' Diseases", mainly the ointments and things you can make out of various herbs and such to get rid of the "Posey Pox" or the "Bubbling Boils". Essentially, cures for the various pranks that students can pull on others. With her cousins merely a year away from joining the school, she decided it best to get well read on the subject before they would arrive and wreak havoc on the others.
Other books she snagged were, "Quidditch through the Ages", "Wizard Sports and Other Games" and a few random cook books that centered around a lot of the foods she'd been eating here at Hogwarts. Her brother was a big sport nut at home and Tristan had thought that it might be neat if she could write back home to him about the various games that can be played. And her mother was an avid chef! Perhaps, if Tristan could find some that didn't require magic or hard to obtain herbs and things, she could write her a few recipes to share with the family during their summer reunions and things.
Turning the page again, she pushed her glasses back up on her nose and leaned back against an old stump that could have easily held several students standing atop of it. She looked out from her 'perch' and smiled softly at the view. Rolling hills drifting downward towards the lake. A beautiful view for a beautiful day...

Ah the blissful outdoors! Lots of space to run, jump tumble, tackle, throw balls and just do whatever! And that is exactly what Lillia Avery was doing. Being from a mixed family that was extremely close to their muggle relatives, she had naturally packed along a soccer ball and small soft balls she could toss and kick, even if by herself.....which she happened to be at this very moment in time.
In fact, she thought she was so alone that she burst out into her loudest voice possible and sailed the soccer ball clear through the air... right towards a girl resting against a stump and reading. "GGGGOOOOAAAAAALLLL!!!!" she shouted loudly and burly before pausing, her eyes wide in fear. "DUUUUUUUCK!" she screeched, flailing as she began to dart towards the unsuspecting girl.
The ball whizzed through the air and just narrowly missed the girl reading, but even still that was way to close for comfort. Lillia skidded to a halt in front of the girl and practically fussed over her. "OH my goodness, are you alright?! I AM SO SORRY!" she said as she frantically searched the girl over for wounds. In her searching, her eyes stopped on a few of her books which caused her to take a second glance at this girl. She didn't seem the sporty type at all.... but the important thing was that she seemed physically ok.
Lillia could only hope she wasn't about to just curse the snitches out of her....

"DUUUUUUUCK!"
Tristan blinked and turned her head in just enough time to see a soccer ball flying towards her head. In a flash of instinct, she lowered her head and clasped her fingers over her neck. It wasn't until she heard the thud of the ball hitting the ground did she dare to look back up.
The other girl seemed to be a bit more worried than she was, however. Tristan stood and dusted herself off as she shook her head with a faint smile. "N-No no! I'm ok, honest." she started then swiftly pushed her glasses back up on her nose. "It's not the first time a ball has flung itself at my head." she partly chuckled, remembering the days out in the field with her brother playing soccer with the neighborhood children. She'd been hit a time or two, all on accident, of course.
She looked the other girl over and nibbled her lip shyly. Tristan wasn't exactly a social butterfly. She preferred to talk to the pages of a book rather than a new face, but making new friends never really hurt much either, right?
"I'm Tristan, by the way..." she started again after a very brief moment. "Tristan Mandelheim. I'm a first year in Ravenclaw." She extended a hand out meekly but instead of offering to shake, she pointed to the balls the other girl had brought with her. "Do you like to play sports?"

Relieved as the other girl stood and all her limbs seemed to be working perfectly, she let out a very loud and long sigh. "Oh... MAN i am SO GLAD your ok.... I kicked that thing pretty hard....." she said and ran her hand through her hair, smiling cheekily. "At least, if I do say so myself." she grinned.
"Names Lillia Avery Hollingberry, but I prefer just Avery if you don't mind." she smiled, the first time in a long while that she had offered her full name. Partially because Tristan did so first, partially because..... well she had no idea, but she already liked this girl. And Ravenclaw was the second best house after Slytherin, if she did say so herself.
Glancing at the other balls she had brought, she jogged over to pick one up and tossed it up and down in her hands a bit. "I love sports, they are like...my life!" she near about shouted with excitement. "You play?" she asked, not sure this girl looked like she was a sports freak, but people could be surprising. She raised her hand and made a motion to toss the girl the ball but held back, afraid to chuck another zinger right at the poor girls face.
She should probably go get her soccer ball before it disappeared into the forbidden forest...

Tristan nibbled her lip slightly as the other girl - Avery, she committed the name to memory - dashed off to fetch a different ball from her arsenal.
"Only a little..." she confessed and neatly set her books together in a pile before stepping away from the tree. "My little brother absolutely adores sports. Mum is always fussing at him to not play in the house." she half-giggled.
"I'm not the best, but my brother will ask me to play from time to time. Especially when the other kids have to go home for supper."
Her eyes flashed down the hill a ways where the soccer ball had slowed to a stop. "I'll get that for you." she then offered and jogged down the hill to fetch it. Once there, she turned and gently kicked it up on the toe of her shoe, allowing the ball to pop up to about her knee. She then took a step back and swung a swift kick, sending the ball careening up the hill towards Avery's feet.
It was obvious that her brother had taught her a few things, but Tristan was always one to be modest about it. She'd never outwardly admit that she was any good. Perhaps that was the book worm in her...

Color Avery surprised. She wasn't joking when she had said her little brother played. A big smile spread across her face as she stopped the ball with her foot and popped it up on her own toes to bounce it bit before setting it back down and holding it in place with her foot. "Tristan, was it? Your pretty dang good with a ball! Better than you led me to believe." she grinned and held out her hand to clap the girl on the shoulder... probably a bit too rough but she usually forgot her own strength. "I'm the opposite, I taught my lil bro all he knows... and he better not forget it!" she boasted and laughed, sticking her tongue out.
"I think we will become fast friends. What house you in? Oh, yeah! I'm in Slytherin, but don't let that deter ya." she beamed proudly, puffing out her chest. Avery's current outfit gave no indication of which house, so she thought it better to mention it....that and she was a little bit proud of the fact still. "My dad was a Ravenclaw.. but my mum was Slytherin. She said all McKallin girls end up in Slytherin." she laughed and used her foot to toss the ball up and caught it with her hands. "You got a break? Man I'd love to kick this thing around with you.... " she smiled and flicked her hair back to the other side of her head.

Tristan blinked and tilted her head a bit. She could have sworn she had mentioned her house before? Though she supposed with all the excitement of this conversation, she could have forgotten to mention... She shrugged to herself then smiled a bit more, soaking in the praise that Avery gifted her with.
"I'm in Ravenclaw. First year. Though sadly, I don't know much about my own history yet. I know my real mum died when I was born and that she said my name was to be Tristan Alexandra. I was adopted into a Muggle family after that. Didn't know anything about the wizarding world until I was ten when my Aunt saw me turning book pages with just a thought." She chuckled nervously. "That's when I found out about Hogwarts and that my Aunt went to school here. She was a Gryffindor..."
Tristan paused, thinking that she might be boring her new friend with all her talk. She cleared her throat nervously and pushed her glasses back up against the bridge of her nose. "The hat did mention that I would be great in Slytherin, though. It said it was in my birth family's history, but not much else."
She giggled a bit. This Avery girl was quite a character! She heard many rumored whispers throughout her house of how those of Slytherin could be of bad blood, but so far, she'd seen quite the opposite. Avery seemed nice, energetic, and easy to appease, very much the opposite of what the rest of Tristan's house had led her to believe.
"I have all afternoon, actually." she started again. "I was only out here reading for fun. All my homework is done for the week, unless we get more in class tomorrow."
