Toki and Grrel had finished their attempts at taming a Dactyl with Samel and headed home. Toki, feeling the wind on his wings and smelling the sea winds after so many years, decided he wanted to make a side trip to Serenia while he was out and about. lately he just wanted to go out into the world once more, spend the last decades of his life living a bit more wild than the preceding century. Grrel didn't want to have to 'guide' Toki around anymore so he sent her off, saying that he knew his way from here and she needed to practice her magic some more.

Toki landed in the forests of Serenia. He was confident of his skills and didn't fear Ysali Dragons at all. Old and blind he may be, he was also a shaman and a skilled warrior in his own right. And today, he was going to go exploring! Chuckling at himself, he walked the forests of Serenia, enjoying the barely remembered scents and sounds. The last time he'd been here he'd still had his eyes.. in fact, it was here he'd lost them to an Orderite.

Junjie couldn't help but to give a bit of a sighing sound as he ran along, Abellio right behind him, the two of them chasing after the rather speedy Keinling called Arjan, "Ahh... he is a whole lot... more... active then I remember you being at this age, Abellio." He gasped out as he ran. Abellio was different, he was cute, wanted to be carried around. Arjan on the other hand seemed to be running around constantly, as though he had more energy to burn then ten Keinling. His mother had only teased him, telling him that not all babies were the same and that it had been a mistake to think that Arjan was going to be exactly like Abellio. It was a good lesson for him to learn he thought to himself, though he wished he could have learned it without finding himself running to and fro so often.

"Ah! There he is!" He gasped out, lifting a hand to point at where the little Keinling was, running up ahead of them. The little guy was fast, faster then one would expect, but if nothing else as least he was making enough noise that it made it impossible to lose him, "Try and catch up with him, Abellio, feel free to scoop him up if you like."

The feathered Ysali nodded, rushing ahead, his four feet able to carry him along a lot faster then Junjie's two could. He was just catching up with the baby, grabbing him up off the dragon by his tail in his jaws, then came to a pause when he spotted another Drakein. Abellio's teal eyes went wide, Arjan gave a squawk sound, and went still, dangling there in Abellio's jaws, both of them starring, "Hey, Jun, there is someone else here." Abellio said to his bonded, something that caused Junjie to hasten his steps that much more, wanting to see who or what they had found.

As the halfbreed caught up to his Drakein he spotted the one that they were starring at, tilting his head to one side, before he called out, "Ahh... Greeting Drakein, we mean you no harm, we are just out on a walk." He called over to the big male with the interesting frills. Best that they try to make friends instead of looking threatening he thought to himself before he went to pluck Arjan from Abellio's mouth, "Thank you, Abellio." He said to the Ysali, giving him a smile before looking down at Arjan, "Ahhh... what am I going to do with you? Maybe fewer cookies, they seem to make your run even more crazy then usual." He mused to the Kiandri Keinling, though the idea of fewer cookies only caused Arjan to huff in displeasure.

Toki heard the sounds of breaking twigs, rustling leaves, and loud pattering sounds: the sounds of something crashing nosily through the brush. He swung his head that way, but smelled nothing dangerous; in fact, all he could smell were drakeins and .. a Dovaa? Or something very similar.
He smiled as he finally placed the sounds that sounded oh so familiar: a young Keinling running away from an older Keindred. Must be playing tag, he thought to himself. He sat down and waited for the sounds to finish approaching him. he chuckled to himself as he heard the rebellious sounds of a caught Keinling. He couldn't sense as much magic in them as they should have had, rather like that bonded Amadia I met a while back, he thought. I wonder if that Dovaa scent is their bonded?
When the two young Drakeins just sat there and stared at him, he bent his head down to sniff them, inhaling all the information he needed to remember them. Yup, definitely bonded, they had the person's scent all over them. Both are healthy, so they Guardian must care for them. He heard the huffing of the Dovaa's scent's owner approaching, and turned his head in that direction to await a reaction.

He grinned at Junjie's comments.
"Greetings back, Dovaa." He rumbled. Then he paused, yeah this guy smelled of magic and the draconic scent of Dovaa's... but he smelled vaguely like an Orderite too.. Perhaps this was one of those Hybrid things that the whole mess up a while back was about? "Or.. Orderite, since I can't seem to place your scent. I am called Toki." He smiled at the two younger Drakeins. "A pleasure to meet all three of you." Nice of him to state that he means no harm, not that I probably couldn't hurt hm and then escape if I wanted to, Toki thought.

Junjie turned to look over at the frilled Drakein as he seemed to be guessing at what it was that he was, seeming as though he wasn't quite able to place Jun's scent. After a moment of debate with himself he he finally said, "Some of both actually, my mother is a Dovaa and father is an Orderite." He saw no reason to hide such a detail from a Drakein, especially when this one seemed able to smell his mixed heritage on him. The Drakein worried him less then others since, from what he'd seen of them at least, they seemed to be a lot less racist against those with mixed blood, "My name is Junjie, my feathered friend here is named Abellio and this little monster here is called Arjan, and it's nice to meet you as well." He said, giving a little nod of his head to the Drakein, before he found himself asking, "If you don't mind my asking, what clan are you from?"

Abellio's tail set to wagging his tail rapidly as he was introduced to the one named Toki, "Good to meet Toki!" He chirped, sounding as though he was quite excited about this. It wasn't too often that he got to meet other Drakein after all outside of Arjan and those that traveled with Rio. This should be be a lot of fun to get to chat with an older Drakein, there was much to learn from them after all! As Junjie started to ask questions of the Drakein already Abellio gave a bit of a chuckle, finding it amusing how curious his bonded was. Still, he had to admit he was just as curious now, wondering what sort of Drakein they were meeting with. Not to mention how excited and proud he was of Junjie for admitting to the Drakein that he was a hybrid, so often he tried to hide what he was, something that worried Abellio. To see him more open about it had the feathered Drakein nuzzling against his arm happily.

While the two of them were waiting for answers Arjan squirmed his way out of Junjie's arm, plopping down on the ground next to him, then trotted closer to Toki, lifting up on his back legs, sniffing at him. He wasn't sure who this Toki guy was but Arjan was certainly impressed with the sheer size of the guy. Instantly he found himself wanting to be that big! If he could be as big as this guy then he'd be bigger then Abellio and then he could be the one to win in their friendly scuffles he thought to himself in a delighted manner.

It was a thought that Junjie chuckled over as he picked up on it, giving Arjan a scratch under the chin. He didn't have the heart to break it to him that Abellio would likely get that big far before Arjan himself did, he would let the little one have his dream of being big instead. Not as though he wouldn't get that big one day after all, just not before Abellio was all.

Toki nodded at Junjies answer. "Ah, so that's why you have both scents and a weird medley of magic." The magic, more so then the odd scents, had been what had triggered his curiosity. Almost everything else Toki had run across ended up with one type of magic: the elements, light, dark, or celestial.
"I am from the Family-Clan of Srrelliz. Though that probably means little too you. We are mostly Kiandri's and live on Eowyn."
He then bent his head down to nuzzle the young one who had approached him and promptly been picked up. "Hello Arjan, and Abellio." He turned his face up a little from where he'd been nuzzling Arjan so that he was 'looking' at Junjie. "I noticed in a different bonded that she knew practically nothing about how to use er magic or anything of her people's history. Have you taught them anything about magic yet?" Maybe I should go set up shop in the Magescian's places and teach their bondeds about the Drakein's history and magic. Because who else will? Too many of our people see bondeds as slaves or pets and not true Drakeins. But they are Drakeins still, so they should know their history...

"Weird medley of magic? That is a new one." He said, unable to help but to laugh a little at the description. It had to be one of the better ones he'd ever heard when it came to those with mixed blood. With those simple words Toki was able to make Junjie like Drakein that much more, finding the way that he thought of hybrids to be far nicer then what a lot of the other races thought of them. It seemed that the Drakein were far more open and accepting of others, something he found to be a little sad, but at the same time he wasn't going to complain about it. If anything he was going to enjoy the fact that he could talk openly about such a thing with this guy.

As Toki told him the name of his clan, as well as the fact that they were mostly Kiandri he asked, "I have been thinking that Arjan here is a Kiandri, is there anyway that you could tell me if he is? Maybe his scent is like them or something? I am sort of assuming given his coloration and where I found his egg but I can't be certain since various species seem to travel around in Eowyn despite the climate." It was a bit surprising to him how many dragons and drakein could be found there despite the harshness of the place... though maybe hat was the point? Such weather and obstacles likely made it easier to avoid the other races save for when battles broke out there.

"Huh? Oh, yes and no. Abellio here is Ysali like me, as well as a lot older. As such I have been slowly teaching him what I know." He started to explain before the Keindred broke into the conversation excitedly.

"Abellio makes vines dance!" He exclaimed happily, tail swishing from side to side like made, sounding as though he were completely proud of himself for being able to accomplish such a feat but then again so was Junjie. The better that the Keindred got at the spell the more that he praised him for it. Soon enough he'd be able to entangle things as well as Junjie did or at least that was the plan.

Junjie gave a little laugh, leaning Abellio, stroking his feathery head before nodding, "It's as he said, he's getting better and that spell and once he's mastered it I have been thinking on teaching him other things as well." He said, then glanced down at Arjan who was currently circling around Toki, inspecting the bigger Drakein closely, "As for Arjan, since he's just a baby barely a week out of the egg I haven't taught him any magic... though there is the problem of me not quite knowing what to teach him either. Any tips would be most appreciated." If they were in fact from the same clan after all maybe Toki would know where Junjie should start with Arjan's training when the time came? He sure hoped so.

At Junjie's request Toki wrapped his tail about the circling Arjan and brought him back in front of himself. Leaning down he nuzzled the young Drakein, he didn't need to even try to figure out Arjan's clan. He could recognize the static sense of electric magic within the boy quite easily.
"Arjan is indeed a Kiandri and I wouldn't mind giving you some tips on how to train him or meet up with you later once he has grown up some more to help train him. The lessons will come with history lectures too since they should know more abut their people." He grinned with the last bit and released the squirming Arjan from his tail's grip.

Toki smiled at Arjan's happy chirp about his accomplishments. Making vines dance at his age was a good accomplishment, but his smile was tinged with sadness. The bonded would never be able to do the stronger magics like his free cousins, but at least he was a fast learner, which is more than some of the current Keindreds of his clan...

He tilted his head to stare sightlessly at Abellio.
"I'll tell you the same thing I told the other bonded I've met. You'll never be able to cast the strongest magics. Most of your power is inside Junje right now because of that Bond. You should be able to master the smaller magics but that is all." His tone was sad as he said this. It was a pity, especially in one who seemed so eager to learn! He flicked a wing in a shrug like motion. "Since you won't be able to out-power a non-bonded Drakien, you'll need to learn to out-think them instead. Or wear them out so that way they use most of their power up." He grinned suddenly, "Too many of our people recklessly use their power and use it up without saving some for later. That and they rely too much upon their magic so a tooth and claw battle will be to your advantage." Grrel was such a perfect example at that.. she just threw her power out in large bolts instead of trying to use the smallest amount for the maximum effect. He had learned to brawl when he was much younger.. in fact he'd fought mostly without magic for most of his life.. now he relied upon magic more, but he felt he could still hold his own for a while yet.

Arjan gave an undignified sort of squwak sound when Toki's tail caught hold of him, dragging him around to face the bigger Drakein. As the guy leaned over to sniff at him the Keinling gave a sound like a laugh, sniffing back as though it were some sort of game. The moment that he was released he was off and running once more, seeming as though he could care less about all the training and lessons the big guy was offering, not really old enough to care or calm enough to focus on things at his present age. That they had in fact determined what he was though, that was something Arjan did take note of, it was good that everyone now knew what he was, himself included. Kiandri, Kiandri, he was the best Kiandri he thought to himself as he raced around, attempting to pounce on various bugs as he went.

Junjie watched him race around, glad he was sticking close at least, before he looked back to Toki with a curious look on is face, "History lessons?" He asked, then couldn't help but to ask, "Would it be alright for me to sit in on those lessons?" He was quite curious after all, would love to learn more about the Drakein so that he could take better care of the two that were in his care. He wanted them to be happy and healthy after all.

Abellio turned to look over at Junjie a moment then butted his head against his shoulder, giving him a bit of a smile before turning back to Toki as he spoke up once more. When he explained that Abellio's own power wouldn't be the strongest, that most of his power was inside of Junjie due to their bond, he could only give a swish of his tail, "Is okay. Junjie can have it." He said, not too terribly worried. They had gotten by this long just fine with Junjie being the one with the majority of the magic but that didn't mean that he'd just give up, "Will still practice though. Help Junjie." Just as Junjie wanted to take good care of them Abellio wanted to help Junjie now that he was getting bigger and Arjan was born. Sure, he wouldn't be the best caster in the world but he would still do his best. When th ewas told that he could use took and claw in battle he went wide eyed. Now that wasn't something he'd thought of... it was a little intimidating, to think about going off and tackling a dragon, but... but he could do his best.

"Will try." He said finally, giving a nod of his head. If Junjie could battle with the things constantly then so could he! He would help to fight the dragons, keep Junjie and Arjan safe, and make up for the fact that his spells wouldn't be the best. It would go well because he said it would the rather spoiled Drakein thought to himself.

It was a thought that had Junjie chuckling a little before he hugged Abellio close, nuzzling against his fluffy feathers. Such a good Drakein he thought to himself as he snuggled him before looking over at Toki, "I will do my best to train him even though hand to hand combat isn't exactly my forte." He'd never been in a real fist fight himself, always using his magic instead, but he would need to figure it out for Abellio's sake. He'd have to find someone good at such things... Rio maybe?

Toki grinned at Junjie. "Of course you're welcome to sit in on the lessons! Maybe then you can take our tales to your own people and get them to stop raiding our nests.. or if they do raid our nests, at least treat us like the intellectual people we are instead of pets or tools to gain power." Two birds, one stone. Wonderful.

He chuckled at both Junnjie and Abellio's response. Of course mage's disliked close combat, it's what allowed fighters who couldn't use magic to defeat them!
"I would suggest trying out any new techniques you learn on dragons that you know you can defeat. That way if things go badly, you'll be able to defeat them anyways... Or I can help you a bit. Be a sparring partner of sorts for you." It'd be a welcome break.. plus he could get himself back in shape too. So many years of very little hunting or exploring had taken their toll on his muscles.. Maybe I should get Brassarril to spar with me too...
PostPosted: Wed Sep 04, 2013 10:04 am

Junjie felt his heart skip a beat in excitement when he was told that he could sit in on the lessons, "Oh, thank you! I will do my best to be a good student." He assured the big Drakein, though his face fell a little bit when there was mention of the raids on the nests and having Junjie bring the tales Toki told to his people, "I... well... I could try, at least I could tell my friends about it, but I doubt a lot of people will listen to me because of what I am." He said, turning to look at one of his fluttering, feathery wings for a moment. That his mixed blood would hinder him so much, it really was frustrating he thought to himself, "Still... given how I came by Abellio's egg I will still do what I can."

As Toki offered up suggestions about how he could better learn and try out new techniques he gave a slow nod of his head, "That does sound like a sound plan." Best to try it out against those that he knew he could beat though at the same time it seemed a little mean to attack those weaker then him. Still, he needed to get stronger and help Abellio to get stronger too. It really was a conundrum that was for sure. He didn't want to pick on the weak nor did he want Abellio and himself to remain weak. Would it be considered a fair fight if he was using a style that he wasn't used to? It was all quite complicated and made his head hurt a little just thinking on it. He'd figure it out with time though, surely some of the things he did in battle must be able to translate, right? There were times in the passed he'd used his staff to end dragon battles against dragons that were weakened enough... still, that was merciful strikes, not a full scale battle with his weapon.

He glanced between Abellio and Arjan, both of whom were starring at him at the moment due to his racing thoughts, and he couldn't help but to flush a bit. Given they were connected to him maybe he should try to calm himself he decided, drawing in a deep, steadying breath, let it out slowly, then said, "I will do my best and take your words to heart." Due to the fact that he wasn't much of a fighter that meant could only get better. As for the offer, it was a tempting one, "Sparring... hrm, I've never done that before but it could be helpful."

Toki tilted his head: given how he came by Abelo? There was a tale there, but perhaps he should wait to find out. Maybe after Junjie got to know and trust him then Toki could ask about how Junjie came to have these eggs. But it appeared that there was one person willing to listen; and if there was one, there would be more! He couldn't hear Junjie's thoughts, but from the reactions of Abellio and Arjan, he could figure out that Junjie was troubled or thinking hard about about something.
"I would suggest finding a different Drakein, one who can see and critiqued Abellio and Arjan's abilities, to train them in physical fighting styles. I am good at teaching magic since I can sense the power, but teaching physical fighting is difficult for me. But I am always willing to spar and help with magical training." A pity Grrel, who had a cave home on Sereina, hated bondeds so much. She could spar with them and help teach the younger Drakeins how to fight... but not if she was always trying to kill Junjie: pity. Maybe he could convince one of his other clan members to help... Or that nice boy Sameal.. he seemed to be more open minded than Grrel was....

"Other Drakein, huh?" Junjie murmured, then asked, "Do you suggest that I find others like yourself, those who aren't bonded, or would a bonded Drakein who travels with a warrior work?" He asked in a curious manner, thinking on Uassae, Rio's biggest Drakein. It was possible that he would be one to see out when it came to asking questions about battle. If he was with Rio all the time and given how tough Rio was there was a good chance that he would be able to help Junjie's Drakein out in such a manner. If Toki felt that a feral might be better though... that would be a little more tricky, wouldn't it? He would have to see about what to do next as far as finding one willing to teach them. Still, he was willing to do what was needed, even if it were dangerous, to make sure they grew up strong.

"I will see what I can do when it comes to finding them a fighting teacher." He said, "No matter if I need to appeal to another feral. As for training with magic, any tips on aiding them to reach the full potential that a bonded is able to reach would be appreciated." Junjie knew full well that he didn't know everything, it was why he traveled so much, both his desire to learn as well as his teachers orders. Given that he had his own teacher it would be good to get one for his Drakein as well. Perhaps he should speak with his teacher as well in the future, the Sage was a Kiandri after all, maybe he'd be willing to give Arjan some pointers. With all sorts of ideas in mind he couldn't help but to be excited for the next step.

After a moment he asked, "What do you suggest for the very basic, step one when it comes to flying lessons? I can't fly myself, my wings are far too small, but I feel that I should teach them the skill at some point... I just don't know where to start." He said, lifting a hand to scratch at the back of his head in an embarrassed manner. To be a winged creature who was unable to fly, something that he and his Drakein all were, was a bit on the embarrassing side for sure. It was something else he'd need to figure out one day soon for at least the two Drakein.

Toki thought for a moment on Junjie's words, his tail snaking out to attack Arjan again, keeping the young Kienling occupied.

"Hmm, I would say, if you know of a bonded who is an adult and knows how to fight, go to them first. It is safer since they won't try to attack you on site. If not, then approach a feral without your bondeds and try talking with them to figure out what their stance on bondeds are. If they seem reasonable, ask them for help." he thought for a bit longer, since this fellow was here, he might run into Grrel... I should warn him about her.

"A warning, one of m clan lives around this area. She hates bondeds. I am told she is bright orange with purple wings so if you see a Drakin like that , avoid her. You are strong enough to defeat her, I am sure, but it'd be better to just avoid a fight."
He snickered when Junjie asked him about flying. Drakein, unable to fly? It was a funny thought! Poor things, to not be able to fly; flying is much fun.

"I take it you didn't observe birds to get any ideas? They learn much the same way we do. By seeing their parents and intimating. It's also half instinct." With that, he gently grabbed Arjan with his mouth and tossed him into the air. It was a game he and other adults played with the really young Keinlings. Tossing them up helped to get rid of any fear of heights, as well as make them start flapping their wings and strengthening it. He sat on his hind legs and caught Arjan in his foreclaws as the boy fell down. he thought of birds because his mentor had once mentioned to him, a long long time ago, that birds went through much the same way of growing up and learing that the did.

"You need to start flapping you wings to strengthen them, Abellio. Then jump off small heights and try gliding down. Your wings will get stronger and you'll find you know how to fly already, we are born with that knowledge. Actually being competent at flying will come with practice." Toki then tossed Arjan into the air again.

"I know of one adult Drakein, his name is Uassae, and he lives with a warrior friend of mine. I think that maybe he would be the best one to talk with first, to see if he would be open to the idea of giving some lessons." He said, thinking on it, "It would be nice to go and visit with his bonded, Rio again." He mused, then smiled, it would be nice to get out of the house again for longer then just then just a walk here and there. He really did need to do more then just stick around Serenia even if it was a more comfortable thing to do he told himself.

At the mention of a Drakein, one that was bright orange in color with purple wings, that he should avoid he gave a smile, "I will be sure to keep an eye out for her, I would hate to end up in a tussle with her. Battles aren't really my thing unless there is a good reason behind it." He murmured, not really enjoying battle in the least bit, especially after everything he'd seen in Eowyn. He would much rather just remain at peace... though that was rather difficult thing to do given what he was. Still, it should be easy enough to avoid a brightly colored Drakein so that was at least one fight he should be able to avoid easily enough... or at least he sure hoped so.

"Observe birds? Huh, that is a good idea." He murmured, knowing that there were some birds that came to their house seeking the seed that his mother put out for them. He supposed that they could watch them... provided that he could get Arjan to sit still long enough to actually observe. The little Kiandri was so excitable that sitting still normally wasn't an option. He was pulled from that thought as Arjan was suddenly picked up and tossed into the air, something that drew a squawk sound from the Kiandri and made Junjie burst out laughing. It took a bit of time but it seemed as though he was Arjan got used to what was happening and started to enjoy himself during the game that Toki was playing with him. He wondered if he should try that... though he might not be strong enough. Maybe he could have Abellio toss Arjan? He was sure that the Keindred would enjoy that task.

Abellio chuckled at the thought that was going through Junjie's head before he turned to look over at Toki as he started to give out instructions, one that the Ysali listened to very closely before smiling, "I can do that!" He chirped, tail swishing before he lifted up onto his back legs, flapping rapidly, an action that was mimicked by Arjan as he got tossed up into the air a few times over.

Junjie looked between the two Drakein before smiling, "Thank you, Toki." He murmured, both of the Drakein looked so happy, something that only made Junjie that much more happy himself. It was good to see them both so happy and carefree, which was exactly how he wanted them to remain for as long as possible.
