How long had it been since he'd been brought into the fold? A few months? It seemed longer, now that he thought about it. Leucite was perched atop a building, crouched and looking over the edge to try and figure out who was to be his next target. Some nights he had no trouble in picking out who he was going to drain energy from. But tonight, tonight was not one of those nights.

Letting loose a little sigh, he pinged back on his mental energy radar, trying to see if he could feel any energy signatures of the enemy. So far he'd come up nothing, which was both good and bad. Good - because when he did finally decide to drain energy he wouldn't be bothered. Bad - because he was itching for a fight.

But still, right now he was at a loss as who to snatch from the people wandering the streets below. It used to be so easy - but now...

A lot of it had to do with the fact that he was sure his girlfriend knew something wasn't quite right. His late hours were getting later every night - and there was only so much he could lie through his teeth and tell her he was working on stuff. The campus studio closed before midnight, and the gym closed after three in the morning.

Sooner or later - she was going to catch him in a lie, and there was going to be hell to pay...

But he didn't want to worry about that right this second.

So he just stood there, watching the tiny little people - and waited for one to jump out at him.

Captain Schörl had found the new strength and speed of her promotion quite agreeable, despite the sense, when she focused hard in meditations, of many eyes opening and drawing her own many ways. That was to say, it had become harder to focus, harder to still her mind to absolute calm and emptiness. There was the nagging sense that in the abyssal depths of that growing black that surrounded Her Center, Her starseed, there was something watching. Something looking back.

She hadn't determined if that was a comfort or a threat.
It may, ultimately, not matter which she decided it was. It wasn't like it was going to go away. Faust knew exactly what he'd signed up for, and so did she. So did most of them that had the brains to sit and really reflect on what was going on.

And speaking of, feeling out as she loped in a powered jog-and-jump, she felt a Lieutenant near. So, that is how we all feel to the imaginations of our 'betters'.

The aura was still, unmoving. Wounded? Contemplating? She approached, lighting from light post to light post. A very uniformly-uniformed member of there's Nice angles in his cut, straight shoulders, straight back. Hair a little severe, but it went with the get up in the strictest military sort of way. She made the leap to the street lamp that was at the foot of the building, looking up at the youth with a wicked smile across her lips, "Orbs don't catch themselves, lieutenant. Come closer and let's have a friendly."

He'd felt the other Negaverse signature approach, stronger than him by the feel of it, so he hadn't moved from the spot until she appeared. Looking down, the voice sounded familiar. He'd met her somewhere before, the carnival perhaps? Regardless, he hopped down, firing off a crisp salute after he landed and righted himself.

"Ma'am," he said, bowing his head. Not a comment on her age by any means - but her rank. She was his better, and so he would address her as such unless directed otherwise.

"I know, I was simply trying to pick a target. Some nights it's quite easy... Tonight... Not so much."

He stood at parade rest, hands loose behind his back, waiting for her next order. It had been an easy enough transition, even after being out of his father's home for so long... He still remembered it all. If only his father could see him now...

The man would blow a gasket.

"Sometimes cats catch their own tails, too." She chuckled, jumping down from her lamp post to walk slow circle inspecting this fine display of military ardour. "Well done on the presentation."

"Nothing like a crisp 'V' from shoulders to navel to give someone the shivers. You get tired of those boots on, you can leave them on my floor sometime, " she stepped close to whisper against his ear, "At ease, soldier."

"More pertinently, its dangerous to stay in one place too long. It's fine to be choosy, and to be slow and still to get close to your prey." Stepping back to a more professional space, "But it also lengthens the amount of time the enemy has to detect your presence and close distance. Interrupt the hunt. Unless you're hunting more than energy."

"Tell me, what is your technique for hunting. Both kinds of prey."

At the Captain's reply he simply nodded his head, unsure of what to comment to that until she got up close and started to whisper in his ear.

I have a girlfriend... I Have a Girlfriend.... I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!!! his mental mantra blared as he felt the sudden rush of heat run from his face down to his core. He'd been hit on before by women, yes, but never in this kind of situation.

Never by one he could technically count as his superior. That was probably the exciting thing. She was cute - not a redhead - but cute. If he were single, he'd of probably given it more thought. But as it stood, he hoped the blushing around his face would die down as he swallowed slowly, thinking of how next to respond to her. He figured he'd ignore the obvious invitation - maybe she'd think he was stewing on it for later.

Let her think whatever she wanted, as long as she didn't start feeling him up or trying to have her way with him while they were on duty he was fine for the moment.

As far as her question though...

"I tend to stalk the allies and rooftops, looking for good targets to snatch, usually those traveling alone, who seem in a rush or are distracted by something. Though I will admit, I do take the starseeds of the undesirables I find - Drug Dealers and the like... I go to DCU... I've seen what their kind does to my classmates - so I won't have any of it." He watched the Captain - he still wasn't sure what the rule for taking seeds was - but he was wiling to stand by his decision.

"As far our enemies - I tend to gather energy and let them find me, its easier to lure them out then to actively go hunting. That way I get a lay of the land and have a better idea of where we might be doing combat - which can give me an edge against them."

He allowed his body to go at ease, not really doing more than allowing his arms to get a little more loose. He was comfortable standing like this. It was probably one of the most comfortable ways to stand in these boots.

The non-answer, save for the obvious discomfit and blushing was rather delightful. The captain's smile widened, but she let the matter slide away, so much foam on the wake of a more important boat. People had their reasons for being boring, she didn't much care what his were- what mattered was he made his choice.

"How very ambush predator. Like the smilodon, with those guns of yours. Solitary is good. Camouflage and caution are good. And you've got muscle. What about combat technique? Its not always greenhorn fourteen year olds. Sometimes you find tigers in the jungle."

I should know.

"You could show instead of tell. Slow impact demonstration."

Leucite gave no warning - she had asked for a demonstration, and she was his superior, so he decided he wasn't really going to hold back that much either. Even if she was a woman. He'd learned just from fighting the few order females that they were not to be underestimated.

He'd earned his share of injuries to that.

The only clue that he was about to strike out at her, was the slight shift in his expression from respectful and obedient, to respectful and aggressive. About half a minute after her last sentence ended, he disengaged from "at ease" and slid into the standard attack stance - sideways, dominant leg forward and arms up.

Mixed Martial Arts was interesting in that it was a mix of so many dissonant styles. You had your Jujitsu and Muay Thai along with the much less subtle ground game, which was also Jujitsu and a little bit of wrestling thrown in. But really - you could throw anything into the pot, that's what made it so interesting to Leucite. He could learn every style of martial art in the world and it would only serve to enhance his skills in the MMA octagon.

That said, he moved toward Schörl with a purpose, his face composed and all the while still the mask of respect and constrained aggression.

He opened with Two swift jabs, one aiming high for her face, the other geared more toward her body. He finished off the combo with a round-house kick - her personally disliked them but he wasn't set up for a front kick and the round-house offered the best power given the circumstances.

He didn't pull his punches either, if they hit her - which he had his doubts would even remotely happen - they would hurt.

Leucite did not simply "demonstrate" you wanted to see his abilities - he would show you - first hand.

Schörl shifted fluidly into Hold the Ball, and then to Repulsing Monkey. She kept her contact gentle, meeting his wrists and shifting the momentum of the strikes away as she stepped backwards. She wasn't disappointed with this display- the smarm of a half grin still present. Good speed and good control.

The roundhouse kick was a nice touch, Cloud Hand meeting and letting momentum run aside as well. "Pre-trained."

"What is your plan for when exactly this happens to you? As you can see, rather than take hits, I deflect them. What happens when you face an enemy faster and harder hitting than yourself? Just wail it out and hope you're the one standing at attrition's end? There's only so many times bones can heal before you get to be the bionic man."

Allowing himself to take a few steps back, he kept his eyes on the captain but did not drop his stance. To be honest, this was the first time this had happened to him - so he really hadn't come up with a counter for it yet.

"Mixed Martial Arts - I compete in the amateur circuit." It was how he made SOME of his money, the rest he got from either his mother's kindness, or the occasional sale of one of his art pieces. Eventually he knew he'd have to find real employment - but it was enough scratch to suffice him through college.

With that said, he went on the offensive again, but this time feinting a kick to try and get her to deflect it again so he could grab a hold of her arm and tug her toward him, his other leg aiming to go behind hers so he could get her on the ground.

When in doubt - take them to the ground and go for a submission. Though even as he moved he answered her question.

"If the worst happens, and I discover I am outclassed. Well - a wise man once said, 'he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.'"

The captain didn't deflect this time, but turned herself to the side as High Pat On Horse, letting the kick go by. She felt the leg entangle to hers and considered dropping herself into the strange extended crouch of Snake Creeps Through the Grass- the lack of standing posture would leave control gained at the ankle instead of knee and untenable for a take-down. But there was much more excitement to be had if he really decided he wanted to be just that close.

"I don't think you are, in this case. You sure you want to go this route? " Ending up on the ground wasn't so bad, even better as his muscles shifted to tension the hold. She kept a hand free to pet along his thigh, pushing thumb pad firmly along the line of muscle. "You could have just asked me to submit from the first. Though this IS the fun part."

"You need to be careful focusing so much on getting the close game. It leaves you open like this to the unexpected. Not that I have magic to demonstrate. You catch the drift of danger?"

Sorry for the delay! Family got sick then I got sick! OTL

Maybe this had been a mistake. Leucite realized a bit too late that he wasn't in as much control of the situation as he thought he might be. Her words caused the color to rise in his cheeks again and it was all he could do to suppress a sputter.

That was until her hand started to pet along his thigh, her thumb running along his muscle and causing him to shiver a little bit. The implication of her words caused him to cough and sputter a little bit. "This was... purely a professional demonstration I assure you..."

It wasn't like the temptation wasn't THERE. He rationalized a lot of his actions as Leucite as being able to do what he wanted to without it affecting his personal life. But all the same - he wasn't sure he was willing to cross that sort of line. His own personal ethics - and to a much larger extent, his love for his girlfriend, pretty much rendered him impotent when it came to such things.

Not that his body wasn't being a total Judas right that second. He just hoped she wouldn't notice.

"But yes, I see what you mean. I'm still not used to fighting against magic, every time I've encountered it, the senshi was able to use it to aid in their escape..." He tried to shift the subject as he sought to capture her free hand into an arm bar.

ANYTHING to stop her from rubbing his thigh and prompting a biological response.

"I assure you there are professionals for that as much as anything else." Schörl chuckled, giving token resistance to make the arm lock difficult. While her art could be adapted to close range, it wasn't built for it. A few moments of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-esque hand and forearm work, and he finally had her both body locked on the ground and arm locked.

As long as the warning was taken seriously, which it seemed it was, that one had to be prepared and make choices deliberately. With that communicated, the rest was just fun and games. "Well done, Lieutenant."

"And now?"

Leucite chose not to rise to the bait of the captain's first statement - well aware of that fact. Though he was glad when he finally got her arm locked in and her body successfully locked.

"From here I can break your arm if I keep pulling hard enough," his voice was calm, but underneath the surface he was far from it. "But I have no desire to do so," Instead he let her go and disengaged, getting to his feet once they were untangled. He even offered the captain a hand to help her up if she needed it.

Not that he thought she did, but it was common courtesy.

"Though it would have been better if I could have gotten you in a sleeper hold - could have knocked you unconscious." An incapacitated enemy was easier to handle than an aware one.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 02, 2013 9:20 am

"Can/Could, Lieutenant."
"I'll read into that that you're telling me you do have tactical plans that you carry out and that you think during a fight. Which was the point of this exercise." She wasn't worried about a broken arm, and showed no concern about the comment- whether it was meant as a threat or not. She could spend the energy to teleport out of a hold, if it was an actual situation.

"The other way to read that is bravado. Which I don't have time for. " The captain took his hand to get up without making a deal of it, unlike the cat-who-got-the-cream chuckle at biology, "A sleeper hold is useful for an enemy you want to capture, yes. There aren't many of those, if my talk with Zinkenite holds bearing. If you have a Moonie's neck in that sort of hold, just break it."

"In the future, if you want any lessons on meditation and focus improvement so you don't have to worry about embarrassing situations, I can offer that. Honestly devoid of 'unprofessional' conduct. I take meditation and Focus very seriously. " Her expression faded from pleasant mirth to serious instructional, "You've got a definite divide between what your body wants and what your mind intends. Bring them in line together, and you'll see an improvement in your fighting and other pursuits."

She patted off her uniform once, and inclined her head directionally once off to the distance he'd been considering where prey awaited. "Appetite better wetted? You have some hunting to do, now that my concerns are satisfied. Energy orbs."

Can probably bring this to a close?

"I wouldn't mind that," Leucite said to the meditation and focus training. Anything that allowed him to better himself was a definite plus. As she inclined her head toward the distance he nodded his head slowly.

"Aye, I think I can make a choice of a target now," He saluted her again. "With your permission, I will get back to work."

Once he was dismissed - he'd go back to gathering energy. He didn't want her to think he was slacking.
