Tuning is the process of refining a pair of Air Treks to better optimize the individual performance of a Rider's road. This can vary in complexity depending on the Tuner themselves. There are three different types of tuning processes:
Basic Tuning, simple maintenance on one's Air Treks in order to optimize the performance of otherwise basic parts such as replacing bolts, screws, and batteries.
The second, is Custom Tuning. This is a more advanced form of tuning that allows the Tuner to alter or produce a pair of Air Treks that use more complex parts, replacing the older parts, in order to increase the efficiency of one's Air Treks. This can be anything from removing the Air Treks speed limiter to installing a different type of cushioning system to changes in wheel-type to completely rebuilding them from scratch for unique effects.
Link Tuning is the third form. The most difficult process of tuning reserved only for the wielders of the Regalia, the Kings and Queens of their Road. It involves a high-class (A-Rank) tuner matching the King or Queen's biorhythm to the Regalia in order to unlock its full potential and usage.
The degree to which a pair of Air Treks can be altered depends on the rank and talents of a tuner. Tuning can only be done by riders of the Ring Road.
Rules of Tuning
Tuners are allowed to tune themselves and other riders. This Tune-Up does not affect how much a tuner may tune nor may the Tuner boost their [ Forge ] stat. The amount a tuner can tune is derived from their [ Forge ] stat, and similar to the regular Storm Rider READ, a tuner is "ranked" based on the points they have in their Forge stat. Should a Tuner have 140 points in their Forge stat, then they'd be a "B Rank" Tuner.
EX: A Tuner has 100 points as their [ Forge (READ) ]. That means, they're able to tune 25 points onto a pair of AT [ Formula = READ / 4 = Tune Amount ]. For individual TU's on a pair of AT's, you divide the stat itself by [4] to get the TU for that stat. EX: A tuners stats are 40 ACC / 30 STR / 20 STA / 20 JMP. That means they can tune for 40/4, 30/4. 20/4, 20/4, as a whole, but not exceeding the maximum of [ 40 ] points for a full tune-up.
All Tune-Ups affect the Rider's Air Treks and only their Air Treks, not their actual body. If they take off their Air Treks they lose their Tune-Up bonuses. All costs must be paid at the time of tuning. Tune-Ups must be performed at the tuner's shop, home or at a base. Furthermore, a Tuner may not construct, tune, or alter parts or treks that are higher than their rank. Meaning a B Rank Tuner can only effectively alter or craft B Rank and below technology.
Basic Tuning
The basics of tuning involve replacing the basic frame, aligning wheel bearings, replacing generic brands with better quality, more name brand parts, oiling gearboxes, replacing batteries, etc.
Basic Tuning is not to be confused with Custom-Tuning. No additional or custom equipment or parts are added to a pair of Air Treks that have been Basic Tuned, and as such only the current parts have been optimized for better performance. This results in a stat bonus depend on the [ Forge ] stat of the Tuner but do not allow for the special effects. Basic Tuned A-Ts do not receive effects and therefore have no corresponding rank at which to be worn, unlike Custom-Tuned A-Ts.
A pair of Air Treks cannot exceed +40 stat point Tune Up. Negative tunes (removal of stat points from one area to be placed in another) do not subtract from the +40 gain. If you have an Air Trek set that does -5 Strength and +10 Stamina, you are still 10/40 in your tune-up limit. For every [ 4 ] points the tuner has in their [ Forge ] stat they can add a single point to a rider's Air Treks (4:1 ratio). This number is always rounded down. Tuners can not tune Air Treks past the amount of stats which they are capable of tuning; in other words, you cannot "stack" tuning points. That means a tuner cannot repeatedly enhance one specific area several times to reach the +40 Limit (e.g. being able to tune for +20 strength and doing it twice). Instead, it will just override the previous Tune-Up if it is higher than the tune before it. The tuner can, however, give multiple tune-ups in different areas at the same time; meaning should the tuner have 100 forge stat points, they can apply +10 strength, +10 stamina, and +5 jump, so long as the total does not exceed the limitation of 25 due to the ratio.
Basic Tuning Ryo Cost
Tuners must spend a specific amount of time tuning a pair of Air Treks, usually, this is done within a post that is dedicated to it. Your writing must be related to tuning! Quoting lyrics, poems, having a full-length flashback is not allowed. Your post doesn't have to be fully devoted to tuning, but a good portion of it must. Keep in mind your Forge stat will only allow you apply so many TU points but due to the rising cost of Air Trek parts, it also requires tuners to utilize Ryo in the "forging" process; the cost requirement coincides with the tuner's [ Forge ] stat rank, an emphasis that the higher the tuner is, the better the quality:
F Rank Forging: +5 TU per 25 Ryo
E Rank Forging: +5 TU per 50 Ryo
D Rank Forging: +5 TU per 75 Ryo
C Rank Forging: +5 TU per 100 Ryo
B Rank Forging: +5 TU per 150 Ryo
A Rank Forging: +5 TU per 200 Ryo
Pledge King/Queen Forging: +5 TU per 250 Ryo
Tuner Stat Gain
It was once thought that Tuners ride on a rather passive road, rare for them to participate in Parts Wars but this isn't always necessarily true. Each Tuner is unique; some are seen as a more medical force in the Storm Rider world and others can be a force to reckon with, bringing an ample array of tech to battles that may surprise you. At their base, however, tuners are mechanics. They hone their craft and talents through working on Air Treks and increase their [ F O R G E ] through attaining a higher READ. The more time you put in under the hood, the better you'll be overall, and the more you'll grow.
