He had done it! He couldn't quite believe it but he had managed to place in a race that he had accidentally qualified for. He would have said that this was the last time he would ever take a bet from his friends, but he knew much better than this. Alas, the cream stallion knew all too well that they merely had to hint at a challenge and he was likely to accept it. It wasn't that the stallion was foolish, and he would never put his life in danger, but for challenges such as races and games, he had a competitive streak that couldn't be rivalled. In that respect he liked to win, he liked to succeed, and he liked that sense of pleasure that crept into his belly when his friends congratulated him. Consequently, so long as the challenge wasn't at the expense of his safety, he was likely to accept it.
Alas, now that he had placed in the races and had walked away with an ample amount of respect from the other opponents, he was at a little bit of a loss. His friends had lost a substantial some of berries and trinkets as a result of this particular challenge and they weren't quite ready to throw another one at them. Rather than boast the stallion had instead, gathered up his wits, and taken off to find some other form of entertainment. Suffice it to say that he hadn't travelled very much at all in these lands and his knowledge was isolated to the area which he had been born and raised.
...He knew nothing of the mountains, rivers, plains and forests beyond his own specific region. Unsurprisingly this did have the advantage and ensuring that everything and everyone was new to him. On the more negative side it also meant that he was unfamiliar with the customs, expectations and social orders that he might encounter. Combine this with the fact that he was rather hard of hearing and it would place him at a considerable disadvantage if he started big.
Thus the stallion had elected to pursue a much smaller goal first. He had circled the Kawani lands for a while now, assessing each of the locations in turn before he had finally selected a small forest by the river. It wasn't large enough to contain very many soquili or creatures at all and as such, he was unlikely to cause any immediate offence with his naivety regarding their customs. Satisfied with his decision, the stallion had then picked as pleasant morning , neither too cold or too warm, to land and make his acquaintance with whatever he might find.
Still, how did one start a conversation here? He sincerely doubted that, "Oi, pinkie!" was going to do him any favours here; such familiarities and nicknames were only reserved for those you had known all your life, surely?
Ah, but he drifted into his own thoughts and musings as he proceeded through the clearing towards the river and the forest beside it. He supposed he would begin with a 'hello' and work from there, that seemed the most logical approach...

She had woken up with the ideal that today was going to be a rather good day. She did her usually stretching before she would gather some berries and leaves for breakfast. She lived in the forest close to the small, yet shallow, river. She enjoyed this spot since rather few stallions or mares came to pass by or greet her. She gave a small yawn before taking a drink from the cold water. Lily was alone where she lived, by the river. She had no friend, nor familiar at her side. She mostly enjoyed the birds chirping, but wish for someone to talk to. Her ears moved about at the sound of someone landing close to where she was staying. she was a bit afraid, but knew that she need to stop being so shy when it came to new ponies. She took a breath before she began to head towards the sound. She noticed the cream stallion. His markings had caught her in awe. She had never seen one so close, yet so hansom at that. She gave a light gasp in excitement that he was a winged one as well. "My, oh my..." She spoke to herself. She walked out from the bushes, into the stallion's view. She stopped, but blushed lightly as she became frozen in awe. "H-hello there..." She spoke meekly, but with a light smile.

Debut had been rather unprepared for the moment when Lily had slipped out from her home and stepped into his view. He hadn't heard her, which was really of no surprise, and he hadn't seen her, which was a bit more of a surprise given she didn't 'blend in' quite so well as other soquili. It was enough to make the male jump, and he gave a series of rapid blinks as he attempted to confirm that she was in fact real and not a figment of his imagination!
Alas she was talking, or he assumed she was; her mouth was moving and she had offered a smile, but no sound had reached his ears. They swivelled at that, as if it would make a lick of a difference, but sadly his hearing was as murky as it always had been. Thus he had no option other than to close the distance and provide an apologetic smile - he hadn't heard her and there was no point in him pretending that he had.
...Now if he watched her mouth, he'd work it out this time.
"I'm sorry," he offered at last, his voice measured. "I couldn't hear you," he unfurled a wing to rub at his ear gently. "This is your home? I didn't mean to bother you..."

Lily blushed lightly when the stallion couldn't help, but jump at her. She was quite quiet after all. She watched him carefully as he looked confused, which confused her as well. She move a bit closer to him in hopes he would be able to hear this time. "I said hello there!" She said as she spoke up a little bit loud. She hoped that Debut would be able to hear this time. "It's quite alright, I don't get very many visitors or none at all." She said with a slightly sad expression. She was indeed alone where she lived. She didn't want him to leave, but she did want him to be able to hear her. "My name is Lily. What might be your name?"

Aha, she'd raised her voice! It wasn't by much, but the increase in volume, coupled with the movement of her mouth, enabled the stallion to understand her. Within moments a beautific smile had appeared on his lips and he was gracing her with an appreciative stare. Granted it was highly unlikely she had realised he was hard of hearing as of yet and as such, she hadn't yet had the opportunity to 'judge' him, but she might be like his friends and be the exception to the rule - she might find no problem with it.
"Well hello there," he replied, his tone decidedly more enthusiastic once he had heard her and realised she wasn't tossing him out of her home for the moment. Suffice it to say that the cream stallion would have been rather disappointed if he had been subjected to that, he'd only just gotten here after all! "And that is good to hear, so long as I'm not causing an intrusion..." he pursed his lips though as she introduced herself, momentarily stunned.
Had she said Lily, Lolly...?
He'd make a guess, she could correct him if he was wrong.
"Uh, it's Debut," he said at last and shook his head. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Lolly."

Lily giggled lightly when the stallion began to talk. "It's no worry at all. I enjoy some company once in a while!" She spoke enthusiastically as she moved even closer now towards him. She was mesmerized by his voice. It was like little birds singing in her ears. She couldn't help, but trace his markings with her eyes. They looked as if they were dancing flames on his cream coat. "Lolly? No, no. It's Lily!" She corrected him nicely as she waited for the stallion to introduce himself. "Debut? I like it. Very natural for a stallion like yourself." She commented as she giggled lightly. She was enjoying his company already, even though he had just got there. "So, Debut? What brings you to this part of the woods?" Lily asked with a bit of curiosity in her tone of voice. She always wanted to know where her visitors had come from before they meet her. She always helps those that are lost in there way back.

Ah, so he'd gotten that one wrong - she'd quickly corrected him on that one and he provided her with an apologetic smile. He was reassured that she hadn't taken offence though, since she had giggled in response and seemed to be genuine in her enthusiasm to continue the conversation. Granted, she spoke so quickly that he had to concentrate in order to read her words, but he eventually managed to understand what she was saying, even if his responses ended up delayed as a result.
"I'm sorry, Lily," he amended, his smile deepening as he regarded the mare. "I am very hard of hearing," he confessed, lifting a wing to rub at his ear again in order to emphasise the point. "So I may not get everything right," he explained, before promptly returning to the topic at hand. When she called his name natural and fitting, he did have to concede that she had a point in that...he seemed to regularly 'debut' into new situations!
"Ah but I come to explore? I don't know this place very well," he motioned to the area around him and chuckled softly. "I thought I should take a break from home and see the world, see who and what is out there," he continued and tilted his head to the side. "And so I find you, very lucky for a first trip."

Lily thought this stallion was something special, but couldn't help to laugh at him getting her name wrong. "Like I said, it's quite alright." She assured him as she just kept on smiling. She was enjoying the now and didn't want it to go away. "Hard of hearing? If I had known that I would of spoke up louder or a bit slower so you could read my lips better." She felt bad for only learning of this now. But she tried to cheer up since he seemed to have copped with it just fine. "To explore? Well you'll just love it here! There's so many things to do, to see, and to try!" Lily spoke joyfully as she bounced around Debut. She was excited to go onto an adventure with someone and not by herself this time. "I would say so. You could of gotten lost and not find your way back around here." She told him with a serious expression. "I've even gotten lost in my living place before, but I've learned to find my way back."

She was very pleasant and very hospitable; he couldn't fault her for that. Granted he was never forthcoming with his disability as it often led to complications, but she had accepted him with open arms and even noted what he might need to communicate with her better. Speaking up to the point he could hear usually meant shouting though, so he often preferred for people to slow down instead. He supposed that if she were to spend greater time in his company, and she seemed to be offering to do so, that he should grace her with guidance on how best to talk to him and save her dignity.
"Talk more slowly," he offered and then chuckled. "You will look less crazy than if you were shouting," he pointed out, a mild smile creeping on to his lips before he pondered over her other remarks. For one without wings, she made sense about getting lost, but more often than not if he got a little turned around, he just took to the skies. Getting 'lost' was a foreign concept to him, but it did make him curious as to what those without wings did in the event of such a thing.
"I do not get lost, I fly home, no?" he pointed out before glancing over her shoulder towards the forest. "But you cannot fly - you must have secrets," he observed and tilted his head to the side. "I would love to learn those, if you would teach me."

Lily giggled lightly with a nod. "Whatever can have you understand me better." She said as she slowled er talking down a bit so her words could be more readable. She understood the concept of talking slower verses shouting. "I don't think I could shout, even if I tried." She said jokingly with a giggle. She looked towards the sky then back to Debut, "Well, it make distinct markings on the trees to find my way back. Some have berries squished on them or carvings. I don't harm animals so no bones are used, but sometimes feathers." She explained as she lead him down a dirt path with trees on the sides. There was hundreds of marking, all different from the other.

"You cannot shout?" he lifted a brow and then considered this, he'd never met anyone who couldn't shout or at least make a squeal. Then again, perhaps it were possible for some individuals to only shout when threatened. It could all be due to shyness and as he was not an expert on the matter he couldn't draw many conclusions. "I can," he confessed and then shook his head, a sheepish smile creeping on to his lips. "I sound like 'injured seal' when I do though - can't hear what I'm shouting so it makes no sense," he continued.
Shaking his head, he soon elected to follow the mare, his ears swivelling with interest as she mentioned her own methods of finding her way home. It all made sense, but required a serious amount of recollection. He was beginning to suspect that there were those in the world who had an infinite memory if they were capable of this sort of thing.
"Such tiny details," he mused softly and cleared his throat. "You would need a very good memory to find your way around this way, no?" he pursed his lips as he examined the trees, noting that there was moss on one side and not the other. Perhaps these were the type of tricks she meant...although he'd never remember where those were...
