Free of rehearsals and clean-up duty at last, Tayyib retreated, as he so often did, into the trees. After a busy day, some solitude seemed very appealing. It would give him time to reflect, to plan, even to daydream, and he enjoyed having that balance, when he could.
The thick, twisted trunk of the nearest tree offered easy footholds on the way up, and he climbed with his mind drifting miles away, ascending until the branches were of the right thickness, strong enough to support his weight and narrow enough to grasp easily with his hands. From that point on, he moved from branch to branch, sometimes stepping from one to the next where the branches grew thickly, sometimes swinging by his hands. His motions were fluid and relaxed; he knew these trees well, so well he barely needed to think.
His path was aimless for now. It was simply enough to let this familiar physical exertion carry away the buzzing distractions left over from the day. He listened to the rustle of the leaves and the creak of branches all around him, letting his thoughts wander against this background of white noise. Even so, a small part of his mind remained wary by force of habit, analyzing the ambient noise. As pleasant as these surroundings were, the trees could hold dangers as well.

Okay, Tahigwa wasn't sure of why she had bothered to come to Tale now that she had arrived and found that her brother had gone off to Sauti for the next week or two. Curses! Mmm, well, his family was nice enough to chat with as long as they didn't compare her to her mother. She rolled her eyes each to Cusick began to tell stories about her mother that she already knew and eventually got sick of waiting around for Pahana to finish her dancing training. Black eyes turned to the treetops and her instinct to climb took over.
The trees in Tale were certainly interesting compared to the trees of Jauhar. They were so much easier to climb and far more colorful, despite the absence of glowing gems. She scaled them with ease and wandered along a few branches until a tuft of what looked like red fur caught her attention. Like a cat, she flopped onto her stomach and crept forward, peering down at the Leaf Tribe boy climbing up one of the adjacent trees. Well, he was interesting! She smiled and swung herself into standing again before hopping the distance over to where Tayyib was climbing.
From the branch she had landed on she peered down again and grinned. "Hey! Glad to see another climber around here!" She exclaimed. "I was getting bored with my brother's step-family down there so I decided to climb up here! What's your name, Red?" She typically nick-named people based on their hair color or hair style, and since his hair was already braided, she figured "Red" would suffice as a nick-name for now.

Concentrating on his climbing, Tayyib paid little mind to the rustling of leaves and branches overhead. At a sound of an unfamiliar voice overhead, however, he paused and tilted his head up. His fellow climber was a young Alkidike.
Where other Leaf tribe members might not be too pleased to see someone of a different tribe, this Alkidike reminded Tayyib of Yaholo, and that was enough to inspire goodwill. He gave her a sunny smile. Did she know his friend? She did mention family in the area. Unlikely, he decided. What were the chances, in this great wide world? (Little did he know.)
"Glad to climb in good company. I'm Tayyib," the redhead replied. "And you are?" Curiosity prompted him to ask, after a moment's pause, "Are Jauhar's trees much different from the ones here? I've never been there before."

Tahigwa smiled, swinging her legs over the side of the branch. Tayyib? Hadn't Yaholo mentioned a name like that before? Something about a friend or whatever? Hm, oh, well, if this was whoever Yaholo had talked about before, she would find out eventually.
"I'm Tahigwa!" She exclaimed. "And, yeah! The trees are much darker and have glowing gems all over them, unlike these trees!" She patted the trunk of the tree, admiring the sound it made as she hit it. "These trees a pretty interesting, especially how they curl around like this. How do you suppose they grew this way?"
