Bailey had never moved before. She'd lived in the same house her entire life, and now...she was in not just a new house, but an entirely new city and state. At least, hopefully, old problems wouldn't follow them! Everything would be okay now. She had a front yard to play football with her family in, and a backyard with a tree to climb and do stuff outside under, and a cute new uniform for once school started.
It was weird, though, watching movers take boxes from the trucks and put them in the new house, the house that didn't smell lived-in yet because the prior owners had CLEANED it from top to bottom. Reed and her parents were helping the movers, and she was helping by staying out of the way, with her glitter and markers and crayons and lots of colored paper.
And some books, of course, if she got tired of making art.

Daniel was curious about the moving truck, and followed it with intrigue. There was rarely new people, but when there were, they usually got watched by the small eyes around the neighborhood of the children seeing if other children were present. Daniel knew his brother had looked prior, and now he was -- discreetly, of course, masked with practice as he kicked a soccer ball about playfully. It made him feel better since there were monsters, and the young boy stopped seeing a girl with glitter, paper, and sundry -- however his ball did not, flying freely towards the new girl. Daniel looked horrified. "Look out!"

Bailey turned her head when an unfamiliar voice reached her ears. And she promptly squeaked and tried to scramble away from the incoming ball. She at least managed to have it hit her head instead of her face. She made an unhappy noise, rubbing the back of her head before glaring at the ball. Stupid soccer ball...at least it wasn't pointed like a football, though. The change in her train of thought showed on her face, a smile crossing her lips again as she got up.
"I'm okay!" Bailey announced it with a bright smile while facing Daniel. "No need to worry about me! I've been hit by worse on accident." It was a common risk in football.

"'Kay." Daniel mumbled, before walking over, circling curiously.
"I am Daniel. It is nice to meet you." There had to be grownups watching. Seeing glitter he blinked. Oh, art. Okay.
Wait.
"Worse? What were you hit by? Who?"
Because if it was a grown up he was so telling.

"Huh?" She blinked. "Nice to meet you, Daniel. I'm Bailey. And no one hit me. I've been hit in the head by a football a few times, and those have pointy sides." She giggled. "Don't worry, I'm not being bullied." Not there anyways. "I just moved here! Do you live nearby?"
A new place, a new chance to make friends. Maybe. She hoped. If anyone wanted to be friends with her.

"Oh. Okay." Football, which meant American Football. Poop. "Foo--soccer is better. More running." He puffed up a little proudly. "I do live nearby. I have Mama, Papa, and my older brothers who are dumb burros." He tilted his head. "We just came home from Mexico City."

Bailey giggled. "I like soccer. But I grew up with football. Me and my Mommy and Daddy and big brother play it together when we can, and game days are almost always spent together!" Her family was fairly tight-knit, even when they were busy. And that was just the way Bailey liked it! She couldn't help but look confused at the word 'burros', though.
"What's a 'burros'? And Mexico City?! That's...awesome! I haven't been to another country yet! But Mommy keeps talking about us visiting London one day, though!" She practically bounced in place, clapping a bit in excitement.

"Oh, you play at church." He nodded, understandingly, even though he didn't. "Burro is donkey. My brothers are dumb. My Abuelo and Abuela are in Mexico City. We visit every summer." Daniel nodded. "What's in London to do? Do they eat anything good?"

"I actually don't go to church normally..." Bailey fidgeted a bit, but kept her smile. "Daddy doesn't like most churches because people say one thing in church, and then do another thing in public. And that's not right. We go during Christmas, though. And during Lent and Easter." To her parents, those were the IMPORTANT times for church.
"And there's lots of stuff! I wanna visit Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace, and go to all the tea shops I can, and go to Westminster Abbey! And there's lots of food! Meat pies, all sorts of breads, bangers and mash, scones..." She giggled. "Mommy's been talking about the trip for a year now, so I've had plenty of time to look stuff up!"

"I got church at least twice a week. Confession and Mass." Daniel frowned a bit. "What are bangers? And Mash? And Scones?" He... Still needed to learn, even if he loved food.

Bailey's eyes went wide. "That's a lot of church. I...think Mommy and Daddy used to do confession. I think. It's...been a couple of years." And she knew it was her fault, but she wasn't going to say it out loud. She...couldn't.
"Bangers are what they call sausages! And mash is mashed potatoes. And scones are these tasty pastries that you usually have with tea! My favorites are the cranberry-orange ones." She licked her lips. "They go really good with Earl Grey tea."

"Ooohhh. Okay." And Daniel left the church discussion be. "Why do they use those names? That's really weird. I wonder if ama and Papa will let me make scones." He was musing now. "I like to help cook and get to make yummy things."

Bailey shrugged. "I 'unno. Maybe 'cause it's a different country? So different words?" She wasn't really sure, but it sounded like a sound enough explanation! "You do? That's cool! I'm not very good at cooking. I have to start with boxed stuff." Her Daddy had tried teaching her to make pancakes once...
That hadn't ended well.

"Ohhh. I started helping with tamales." MORE weird words? Daniel made a pitiful noise. "English is hard!"

Tamales! Oh she knew what those were! "I love tamales! There was this one lady who showed up at the farmers' market who made the best tamales!" She would miss those. Maybe Grandma and Grandpa Jameson could be convinced to bring some next time they visited...
"Yeah...it can be really, really hard. My reports aren't really the best, since I'm better at drawing than writing." She dug the tip of her shoe into the grass a bit. "School doesn't like it when you draw instead of write, though..." Writing and math, her two worst subjects, always seemed to be more valued than her best. She could come up with the ideas easy enough, but she had trouble putting her mental images into words. And math? It was like staring at a foreign language she'd never seen before!
