The little rabbit made his way along meadow's edge, weaving in and out of the tree-line in a playful manner. He was not afraid of venturing into the exposed grassy area, but it was more fun to dodge in and out of the natural obstacle course provided by the large trees. He had munched on some tasty clovers that morning, and so was not yet hungry enough to abandon his game for the delicacies hidden in the grass.
Samhain wandered through the meadow, his ears flicking back and forth as he scanned his surroundings for any sign of danger. Whenever he heard something, even the tiniest noise, he paused, fully alert, remaining perfectly motionless until he was able to determine whether or not the noise had been a source of concern. For a lone Soquili, grazing in an open area, it was only prudent to exercise caution. You never knew what could be lurking along the forest's edge... until it ambushed you.
He grazed ponderously during the moments of silence, comforted by the ceaseless chatter of birds in the distance. They were little sentries, willing or not, always alerting him to particularly big disturbances before they could get close enough to harm. He wasn't particularly paranoid, he just... liked to stay aware. Dangers were numerous in the Kawani lands, and though he had encountered relatively few monstrosities in his young life he, had seen enough... oddities.... to be cautious. Carnivorous Soquili, for one. It completely baffled him, though their pointed teeth- so like the other four-legged predators he did his best to avoid- made the unnatural diet seem... somehow justified.
Slowly grinding a blade of grass between his rounded molars, the stallion let out a heavy whuff of air from his nostrils... a sigh, perhaps. As long as they stayed away from him, he didn't really care what the creatures were up to... elsewhere.
Casting a suspicious glance at the tree-line, he stopped chewing, ears perked towards the scuffling sounds emerging from among the solid trunks. His eyes caught movement. Oh, no...
The rabbit paused, nose twitching as he stared back at the alert form in the meadow. A prey-animal's instincts had warned him of the direction of the stallion's gaze, though the speckled stallion seemed harmless enough... His right ear flicked back and then forward, one paw raised as he waited to see if his initial judgement had been correct. Losing patience after a few moments, the small creature hopped into the meadow, moving towards the stallion a few paces before pausing again. The rabbit had encountered grazing Soquili before, and sometimes the smaller ones were willing to play. He hopped forwards, once, then lifted his head up to twitch his nose at the larger male. Friend?

Yanisin soared through the sky, moving his top wings in a steady rhythm while the lower pair acted more as steering devices. Pale silver eyes stared out at nothing in particular, as the ceaseless torment of his thoughts circled and wove inside his conscious mind.
The top pair were bat-like, with vicious ebony talons- nightmarish wings, made for a killing breed. The bottom pair were feathered and light, airy and angelic- the appendages of an angelic strain. Contrast, differences- within a single whole, unified only by the simple fact that they both belonged to... him.
He had not chosen to be born this way. He, like everyone else, had no say in the parents they were born to. He could not select his bloodline any more than he could alter his physical characteristics. He could mutilate himself to warp the features beyond recognition, it was true, but that would only hide what was there... and he had no desire to limp mangled through life. He had built up a certain pain tolerance against the taunts and torments of both breeds his heritage drew from. Stoic, he dealt physical blows and emotional cuts with a certain calm- his inner pain never betrayed by his expression, though occasionally morphing into a snarl and gnashing teeth. He sometimes lashed out before others could hurt him, a juvenile reaction perhaps but one that protected his sensitive inner balance from the tumultuous actions of other beings.
His self-control was precarious at best. Just as his physical form was mottled with angelic and demonic features, his mind had both addled serenity and vicious chaos in its depths. He could sway to either extreme, as easily as drawing breath. Perhaps he would some day become the monster others so feared when they caught sight of his sharp barbs. Perhaps he would transcend all this, and become so much more than the supposedly pure beings who had nonetheless shunned him for his manner of birth. Maybe he'd be trapped forever in this vague in-between state, caught between extremes and never quite settling anywhere.
He was chased from peace when he thought he found it, and he could never fully accept the blood-lust of the darker part of his soul. He fought against slipping into despair, if for no other reason than survival. Depressed creatures did not last long, in this world of Skinwalker and Angeni. Kalona were once feared above all else in this land, but the impossibly evil pawed beings that now roamed the lands were... something else entirely.
Yanisin had learned how to survive, and he would not give up on life so easily. He may not like what he had been born to, he may not cherish every moment in this far-too-cruel world, but... it was his life. And he would allow not allow anyone to take it from him.

Ah. The stallion's eyes warmed at the soft little creature, and he relaxed noticeably. Though it approached with determination, it was one of the gentle plant-eating breeds... like him. He did not find the other's approach daunting, and even lowered his head a little to get a better view.
The rabbit watched as the larger animal lowered its head, noticing the relaxed pose and becoming encouraged by the seeming invitation to approach further. Moving forwards quickly now, the distance between the pair was quickly closed by a few seemingly effortless hops.
Now nose-to-nose, the stallion whuffed a warm hello, his nostril dwarfing the rabbit's head but his gentle greeting only delicately brushing across the other's soft fur.
Nose twitching experimentally as the rabbit processed the other's warm breath, the rabbit rose onto his haunches and reached forward with a front paw, resting it lightly on the bridge of the stallion's nose. Sneezing once, the rabbit peered leveraged himself up a little more to peer into one large grey eye. Hello.
Snorting and flinching slightly at the rabbit's sneeze, Samhain relaxed again shortly thereafter, and his lips even twitched a little at the rabbit's opinion of his breath. It was a proper hello between Soquili-kind, a sharing of breath and a reassurance of the presence of life. A silent hello, between friends or lovers... a subtle promise of continued togetherness.
Standing patiently while the rabbit satisfied its curiosity, Samhain's ears flicked back as he detected the sound of large wings cutting through the air. It sounded... large. Too large for a bird, though he wasn't sure if he recognized the rhythm as one of the larger creatures he had encountered. He still wasn't used to the idea of a flying Soquili, and had insulted more than one with his open staring and baffled expression.
It was just... unnatural, as much as anything that seemed to occur in the natural world could be. His opinion was based largely on his own existence, and his idea of normalcy. But, sometimes... he was right, and things that looked out of the ordinary were truly extraordinary- or unusually menacing.
He couldn't take not knowing any more, and so gently pulled away from his contact with the rabbit to peek behind him, towards the source of the noise.
The rabbit fell forward a bit at the stallion's impromptu withdrawal, and his lips tensed- miffed. Wondering what could have caused the unceremonious departure from contact, the rabbit hopped to the side and peeked around the stallion's legs, peeking around to see what had caught the Soquili's attention.

Yanisin had been flying unusually low across the lands, traveling by sheer muscle instead of riding the strong breezes further up. Though he was accompanied by an occasional low-lying breeze, he moved through willpower and determination alone... perhaps it would have been easier to walk, but he wanted to feel the strain of the gliding movement. It felt good, to challenge himself and thus inspire the start of new bodily strength.
Absently noting the speckled white form in the meadow, Yanisin vaguely wondered how long... no, he had already noticed the presence of another: alert posture, suspicious eyes, searching gaze and- ah, he had been found.
Drawing in a slow breath and then expelling it quickly, he folded his wings and dropped to the ground, where he remained motionless- waiting for the silent judgement that would surely pass upon him. In this land of many languages, the one thing that was truly universal was undue fear... of the unknown, of what appeared to be one thing but was truly another. Fear kept survival instincts sharp, though at times it paralyzed and had the exact opposite effect. Yanisin was used to encountering fear, or disgust, or contempt- any of the darker emotions that seemed to follow so closely upon recognition of his form.
Pale silver eyes stared towards grey. What will you do, grey one?

Samhain stiffened, his eyes growing wide in shock. What... is it? his nostrils flared, scenting the wind as he attempted to determine what now approached.
His eyes were sending mixed signals- leather, feather, spike, smooth- and the scent seemed to scream male. Male of his kind, but... what were those? Muscles tensed, he sprang into action as soon as realization hit. He recognized those bat-like wings, even underscored by the feathery appendages, even if only from the stories- KALONA.
Throwing himself violently backwards, the stallion carefully bent his leg in a moment of afterthought to avoid knocking over the friendly furry face peeking around his legs. The movement had been automatic, instinctual if you will- something that two-leggeds called spooking. Enough doubt had crept in with the identification to cause him to hesitate before galloping in the opposite direction. For one thing, the creature had stopped. It had noticed him looking, and it had stopped- fully in his line of sight, not poised to pounce or hiding. Bold, right there, whatever it was... was its confidence due to knowledge of its prowess? Was it waiting for him to run, so it could have the pleasure of a chase before sinking its teeth into... drawing his neck up with a snort, the stallion puffed out his chest and drew upon all his reserves of courage.
Lowering his head as if to charge, he nipped at the little rabbit, trying to guide it behind him. He would protect the furry creature, if he could, or at least allow the slower one to escape to the tree-line. Those big appendages would make it harder to move once there, and he was certain that the rabbit could escape if he distracted the creature long enough... well, if it came to that. His heart beating frantically in his ribcage, pumping adrenaline through his veins, the stallion straightened and pawed at the ground- his front left hoof striking out viciously at the air. Snorting and tossing his mane, he arched his neck proudly and snorted at the creature again, still uncertain as to what exactly it was... a Kalona would have attacked, by now. Surely. And, he hadn't heard of a feathered wing set and feathery tufts by the ears with the warnings of Kalona-kind.
The rabbit had merely blinked at the larged winged thing, twitching its nose once and recognizing the smell carried on the favorable breeze as another Soquili. This one had a funny outline, but it hadn't.... hey. Hopping backwards quickly as the speckled stallion threw himself backwards, silently thanking the large animal for not squishing him but still slightly annoyed at the movement without any warning, the rabbit was further infuriated by the well-directed n**. Scolding the possibly-friend silently, he nonetheless moved obediently backwards, away from the direction of the gnashing teeth and presumably towards where he wanted him. The rabbit wasn't certain there was a threat, but the stallion seemed to think so. Watching the display curiously, the rabbit twitched its nose again, peeking towards the other creature and wondering if the n** had been a silent command to get out of the way. What are you? Grey eyes darted frantically over the form before fixing upon pale eyes, confusion and adrenaline mixing steadily within. Hooves planted firmly, tail swishing in frustration, the stallion waited impatiently to see what this encounter would entail... not quite able to bring himself to pose his question aloud for fear of a three-syllable death sentence.
