Robert was in the cafeteria. There was nothing out of the ordinary about this. He looked exhausted from long work hours, and he had an extra large coffee twirling with steam in front of him. His head was leaning on one hand, and every so often, he almost nodded off, catching himself before his head fell to the table. Until he didn't catch himself. And his head slammed into the table noisily. And stayed there. As jarring as the sound was, this was still nothing particularly odd. Robert had been exhausted for months now, never really getting enough sleep. He'd never worked so hard in his life - and as such, he'd been a ghost of a presence at Deus. Unless someone showed up at the infirmary (and they often did) nobody had really heard or seen much of Robert, lately. He was either there, or in his room with Petra. No more naked runs through the hall looking for giant dinosaur plushies. No more food fights. No more drinking beers under the stairs with Jordan. He was a spectre of the man he used to be. A droopy, exhausted, overworked zombie. And he started snoring right there on the table.

For the past ten minutes, Eva had been sitting there and struggling to finish the remnants of her lunch, trying not to grimace at the just barely edible cafeteria food that she had been served today. Attention fixated on the task at hand, she had remained completely oblivious to the fact that Robert was present until the big man's head went slamming into the table. Then she jumped...
...And flung the last spoonful of her lunch at one of the trainees sitting at the table next to hers. After some profuse apologizing and returning her tray, she strode up to where her friend lay sleeping on the table. Er...was he okay? "Robert?" She gave him a gentle tap on the shoulder, paused, and then moved behind him so that she could flop onto his back.
"Roooooobert! You can't sleep in here!"

Robert popped up like a jack in the box and screamed. "WHAT NO-" He looked behind him, soothed by the sight of Eva. "Oh Jesus, sorry sugar. I didn't mean to yell." He gave her a goofy, tired grin.. ..and then dropped his head back down on the table. Apparently, he hadn't actually fully woken up, just then.

Eva practically leaped off of Robert in fright when he suddenly sprang up, blue eyes going round as she stared at him in alarm. Clutching her hand over her heart, her tensed shoulders relaxed slightly when he turned to apologize, the corners of her lips curling upwards in a hesitant smile. "Oh, no. No, it's okay, Robert, I--"
--There he went again. Staring at the big man in disbelief, Eva frowned, rolled up her sleeves, and jumped onto his back again. "Wake up!" Pressing her cheek against the top of his head, her voice grew more concerned as she continued, "Have you not been sleeping well lately?"
Or maybe he was sick? Frown deepening, she leaned forward and slid her hand onto his forehead with a thoughtful hum.

Not been sleeping was an understatement. He turned his head, and looked up at her through a side glance while his head remained on the table. "Unnnngh." He groaned, yawning widely. "Don't got no time for sleep. Got s**t to do. What are you doin' in my bedroom, Eva? I'm married. You gotta control yourself. I know it's hard but.."

...He was really out of it.
"One," She chirped patiently, drawing back and pulling his shoulders back with her in an attempt to sit him up, "We're in the cafeteria. and two," Pushing his head back so that he was facing her, she grabbed his cheeks and stretched them, "I have a boyfriend, you silly butt."
And then she decided it would be a good idea trying to pull him up to his feet, size difference be damned.

Pulling him up into a seated position was a task that was accomplishable. He leaned back against her, and laughed at her explanation. "Oh yeah, I think I heard about that. He's a lucky guy-" And then she performed an unaccomplishable task, which was to try and pull him up to his feet. She managed to pull him out of his chair, only to then have all of his weight fall on top of her and slide eventually to the floor. Where he stayed. Curled up in fetal position. "If we're in the cafeteria.. can you bring me some tostitos?"

Now that she was sitting on the floor, having buckled under Robert's weight, Eva finally realized what a stupid idea that had been. On the bright side, she hadn't let him go crashing onto the ground, but she was sure that sleeping on the cold and quite possibly dirty floor was worse than him napping on the cafeteria table.
At his request, she smiled wryly and reached over to pat him on the head. "That depends--will you be conscious enough to eat them?"

"Mmmmmmf." That was the only reply she was getting. Robert shuffled himself back up into his seat, propped his head up in both hands, and kept himself from dropping back down to the table again. Then he opened his mouth. With his eyes still closed, he just sat there and waited to be fed. He closed his mouth long enough to say, "Uhh, while you're at it, snag me a soda? I could use the caffeine."

Well, Eva reasoned, it wouldn't hurt to get him some food, right? After all, it wasn't as if he was in any state to get anything himself right now. She was still worried about her favourite giant teddybearfriend's sudden bout of exhaustion, but with another affectionate pat on his head, the young woman obediently pushed herself back up to her feet.
"Okay, one sec, I'll see what I can grab you."
She returned a few minutes later with a tray of food--more than he had asked for, since his request could hardly be considered a proper meal--and set it down in front of him, reaching out to tap his nose. "Psssst. Still awake?"

As soon as Eva had agreed to bring him something, he seemed to stay awake just a little longer in anticipation. When she returned, he still had his head in his hands, but his eyes were open to slits, staring up at her goofily. The sight of more food than he'd expected made him grin happily, but as soon as the plate was settled in front of him he went green. "Oh God." He grumbled, sitting up straight and holding himself as far away from the food as possible. "Oh God, oh God-" His body heaved, and he slammed his hands in front of his mouth. "I gotta-" Robert stood up and ran for the men's room.

...Well she already knew that something was wrong, but that pretty much just sealed the whole thing.
Eying the food, she considered her options before deciding to leave it where it was, figuring that Robert probably wouldn't want to see or smell it right now. Hurrying out the cafeteria and towards the washrooms, she paused in front of the men's room, eying the sign hesitantly. Well uh, she could just...
With one hand over her eyes and the other one held out in front of her to ensure that she didn't walk into anything, Eva entered with slow, careful steps. "Robert? Robert, are you--er--okay?"
