'If you don't know Zed, you must be new to a degree.'

Perhaps captains were still new by such standards. Or anyone not calling him Zed, if it was read a certain way.

It wasn't stuck in her craw, but it certainly stuck in her mind. The brass were at a distance, but she'd made something of a collection so far- one she'd rather finish for a brass knuckle than gathering dust on a social shelf. Ilmenite had said lieutenants were not considered to be the inevitable leavings of the 'you can shake and you can dance' line for men. As a new captain, perhaps it was a moot test, or a worse chance. Ultimately, it didn't actually matter. Those who wanted to be useful would become so or they would perish trying.

Still alive.

The office of the grand superior, Ilmenite-called "the GK", was not hard to find, whether the man himself were present or not. They were all always busy, so it was plain there would be no way to avoid interrupting something, even were it mundane as a cup of tea to refocus. The Captain rapped her knuckle on the entry. I'd blow your 'house' in, but Ilmenite said he lived with you. Nevermind, two for one sounds perfect.

Once REG with Ilmenite is done, I would love if Schörl could catch up with Zinkenite to get info.

Yes, absolutely, - if you want to start something just quote me and I'll reply as much as I can!

“Come In!” came the answer to the knock on the entry, The old and heavy door was propped open by the uneven stones, better that than waiting for some Youma to claw the door down. He shuffled through a handful of note cards and set them on stacks of larger more detailed papers before looking up.

“What may I do for you, captain.” He queried, and stacked up a handful of the other papers to one side.

There was indeed a cup of tea, a well-abused thermos being the source of the plastic but steaming cup of black tea.

Zinkenite’s eyebrows lofted slightly at the woman sizing her up but saying nothing yet.

Maybe by the time one was a General King, the proverbial 'spider sense' of feeling out around one's self was so practiced and natural it was permanently 'on'. There was also the more mundane explanation that they were all of them distinct looking, and as the head of information maybe he made it his business to know them all at a glance.

"I've gotten the impression that if questions are not abysmally rudimentary, you are the person to see. I met General Ilmenite out in the field."

"I had some policy questions. " She stepped into the office, having been invited. The confirmed presence of tea evinced a smile. If he didn't have time, he'd say as much. He was a lot smaller 'in person', insofar as a personal setting and not speaking to his division in the distance.

“Well, you are in one of the places where you may get those questions answered, or if I feel it’s a waste of my time to do it myself I will send you to another officer to not only explain but potentially demonstrate any policy that is confusing you.”

He slid a piece of paper over his desk and tapped on it with one finger before picking up a pen and dragging a huge, heavy old chair closer so that he might sit, with little to no apparent effort despite its obvious weight.

“Have a seat.” He said waving his hand and pulled his tea closer.

“First question Captain.”

Schörl gave a nod, given leave to be at least slightly more casual than standing at attention. She came closer and folded down to an easy lotus sit, rather than use chairs or the table. The very fabric of the Rift felt like it breathed with Sha Chi and Si Chi. The General King felt as much a source of it.

"Is there a catch-and-release stipulation, or can we keep Matrix-style senshi batteries? Basic training focused on survival, retreat, and lethal force. Prisoners are something not much approached. "

“If you truly capture a senshi, chances are you should be –killing- them or summoning myself or General-King Howlite to convert them to the cause.” He replied bluntly.

“And for further clarification, never under any circumstances should you escort someone not of our specific nature and allegiance to the Rift. To say the least It would also be preferable that you consult with either Myself, or with General-King Howlite before you even escort say, a dark Mirror senshi to the Dark Kingdom.

He meant of course by the distinction, the small collection of rooms cast of purple crystal where Beryl had once resided, as well as Charonite, where in fact, Charonite and Nealite most technically did reside and would until the end of time.

“If you bring anyone from Order to either place, don’t expect that they will leave here alive. They will leave corrupted only if they are –exceptionally- fortunate, to say nothing of what even I would be pleased to do to any officer who would willingly compromise us. Not that I assume at this time that you would –ever- be so foolish Captain.”

He jotted something on his paper, a curious mix of symbols that seemed to mean nothing in particular if you were to take them at a glance, but unless he was prone to doodling in organized rows then they clearly indicated something.

“Next question captain.”

The emphasis that followed the answer implied that she intended the question as a lead to jeopardizing the Rift was disappointing. Schörl's mouth pulled into a line. " I don't s**t where I sleep, sir."

The clarification was well enough then- gathering energy easily was secondary to just outright ending opposition. It was an important distinction to what was considered 'efficient'.

"The little senshi. I've met plenty. They trust enough to walk up to us and just start talking- I don't want to step on the toes of other branches. Kill, convert, ignore? "

An amusing little rock, paper, scissors.

“I would frankly consider swapping ‘subtle interrogation’ into your list.”

His voice was dry and humorless, more to the point it was matter of fact. He wasn’t cutting in any more ‘chit chat’ than she was.

“Trying to convert would in short, kill you, more surely than trying to promote another officer rather than simply recruit.”

“Fight, gather information, surrender none, run if you must. Remember though if you must depart, you have to survive in order to deliver the information you can gather.”

A handful more symbols scratched on the paper before he phrased the last part of his reply.

“If you have a senshi that you feel would be an excellent convert, bring your reasoning, and the information on that senshi, to myself or General-King Howlite depending.
Some of them may even approach you in order to BE corrupted, always an interesting situation to find yourself in.”

Subtle interrogation, as you do now?
Or like I want to go encourage tea and cookie time just to get a few names to add to faces, or convince the little darlings that they should invite their big sisters and brothers over for a surprise fist-face.
But the captain kept her expression mostly neutral, save an arched brow at the man's scritching. It would be self-important to assume that the note-taking was explicitly about her in some way, but it wasn't out of the question. She didn't have anything to hide if he wanted information. She could even give him a copy of her varied police record.

Commanders want what they want. I wonder if they’re capable of smiling or interacting normally anymore. They, the very opposite of Libertines, not even dilettantes to pleasure- unmoved. They appear unable to feel in life, and lacking, lack even having others do it for them as though the theater of life. On the whole, it seemed less and less viable a solution to seek anything, guidance or otherwise from any of the higher ups. Leave them to their policies and offices, and avoid any and all attention of theirs to maximize getting anything done other than self-crucifixion.

"Last was just reporting that I've done some renovations to my loft. While I'm part of SpecOps, I wanted Info to have the information. If agents or allies are in need, I can house as well as give them some cash to pocket to keep them off the streets. The space is also available for social building. "
"Even yourself or Howlite. Stop by if you want some Turkish Coffee, tobacco, or just a quiet space to contemplate or look at art.”

She stood from her place on the floor, patted off and gave a nod of respect. “I appreciate the time.”

Books and Covers, it was how the world ran, warnings or not people would judge as they would. It would be whatever happened when the world ran down to the wire that could make or break an officer.

“When I am not in uniform, I also maintain an apartment complex for officers or converts in need, and we have significant resources available to help care for our officers, however, your concern and generosity is appreciated.

“If you need to help find someone for a project, my databases are as available to you as any other officer between Lieutenant and Captain.”

He scratched a few more curious markings on the page before tilting his head.

“I’ll be sure to pass on the invitation to General-King Howlite, and I do appreciate the offer. I’m not often a coffee person but I’ll try anything once, Ilmenite my companion may appreciate your tobacco as well.”

“I’d like to encourage you to found a team if you don’t already have one. I find them to be… enlightening. And there is a certain loyalty, kinship to those who mentored you, or whom you have mentored. It is I dare say, something we have to date, done better at than the senshi. Respect, and teamwork.”

"John Heywood was famous for his epigrams - 'many hands make light work.' Combined with 'The more the merrier', and its a recipe for success. Thank you, sir. I prefer group work. If there are hands willing to clasp with mine, I will see them uplifted and never let go. "

"The windows and door will be open," even if being told of the other arrangements already existing regarding housing and money within the establishment was tantamount to being told to bugger off because it was already handled. Captain was not looking more promising than Lieutenant had been on the amount of usefulness she could provide to the organization. Far be it from her to worry overmuch about it. If the clockwork was overfull of cogs, than it was time to build a new clock. What came to her hands was ever what she took herself, not what was given.

And the recompense was already offered, and already her hope- a team. She would see what, if anything, could be built from the ashes with enough spit into them, and would have a damn good time doing it.

"That was all I had, sir. If I am dismissed?" She had companions to find, and needn't waste more of his tea and minutes.

He nodded; she was dismissed if she wished it.
“If you have more questions, I will make time for them. Else I will direct you towards someone whom I feel will… ‘link hands well with yours’ to use your own phraseology.”

He made some final design on the paper and set down the pen, pinching for a moment at the bridge of his nose and rubbing fingertips over his cheekbones.

“Remember, you are more than just ‘stronger’ now, you are a source of guidance and answers to those whom rank below you, just as Generals and General-Kings and Queens are resources for those whom rank below us. “

He waved a hand, dismissing more the trailing speech he had given than being dismissive of her.

“I look forward to your eventual promotion Captain.”
