Was there ever a time in Rastian's life where things made sense, or was he eternally damned to living a life that would endlessly befuddle him? He was so certain that he knew exactly who he was, where he had been, and just why it had all happened in that particular way. But now, as he sat, alone, in Mez, his entire family away on search for Moka, his adoptive father's partner, he found himself questioning everything he had ever known. His father, his mother, his entire life...
Was he really related to someone he walked with nearly every single day? Had he really been that close to knowing his real father? How could he not have noticed it before...?
He placed his cup of tea to his side, wiped the tears from his eyes, and sighed. How would he face Viveka now that he knew all this...?

It seemed that the time for Rastian to decide upon that final question would be tonight as Viveka hustled his way into Mez. He had shed his beloved cloak for Wind Tribe style attire and tied his hair in a long ponytail that dangled from the top of his head and trailed along the ground beside him. The journey had been long and rough, espescially since he had to carry everything he had ever owned with him. Sure, he had left the more useless things behind, like cloaks and fluffy things that would serve no use to him while he lived here.
Sandal clad feet hobbled into Natsu's tent and promptly went nosing about. Where was everyone? Had they gone out hunting? He smiled to himself. He'll just have to surprise Natsu when he comes home, then. The bags he had been carrying were laid upon the ground as he wandered through, before his attention was caught by Rastian in the corner of the room.
"Oh! Rastian!" Viveka squealed, leaping towards him. "Have they all left you to go hunting? A shame! I bet you'd make a wonderful hunter!" He paused and tapped Rastian's nose. "What's eating you, long face? You never look this gloomy!"

Just as all his mind was spinning about, the sound of Viveka's voice came chiming through. Rastian's eyes grew wide, blinked several times, before filling with tears. He didn't know why he wanted to cry, or really, how to cry at all, but his heart began to twist as he looked Viveka over. Yes, now he saw it! They had the same stature, weight, and hair texture. Viveka had an identical nose, eye style, yes! Their faces were constructed the same way! He raised his hands forward and clutched Viveka close to his chest.
"I am so glad to see you!" He cried. "I've been very lonely these passed few hours... We... We have much to discuss, you and I!" He turned, grabbing his now frozen cold tea, and motioned to it. "Would you like some herbal tea? The leaves come all the way from Jauhar! Isn't that wild?!"

Wow, Rastian was being so nice to him! He didn't even bother to ask why he was here! Usually there was some sort of tirade about how irresponsible he was or how inattentive he was before any sort of hug or offering of tea from Rastian! What a lovely surprise! He nodded furiously as he was offered a cup of tea, but peered up at his eyes as he turned. Was he crying? Oh, the poor dear! Maybe he should have invited him to stay with him more! His father would have adored his stories and they could have visited his mother! How rude of him not to include him more!
"Razzie, come here!" He cooed, trapping Rastian in one of his infamous "bear" hugs. "You look so sad and out of place! Please, tell me what's bothering you! I'd be glad to cheer you up in any way I can!"

For the first time in his life, Rastian broke down in someone else's arms. He accepted Viveka's hug and abandoned all reminders of his supposed "dignity". This was his brother, his beautiful, wonderful, amazing brother, and he had no idea that he was here all these years! He had a relative, a real, living, breathing, BLOOD RELATIVE! And another one was all the way back up in the mountains! The tears of joy and relief came pouring down, more and more, and happier and happier.
"I'm not sad, Viveka! I'm happy!" He exclaimed, cuddling Viveka close. "You have no idea what I just found out! I mean, you don't know, our dad probably never had the time to tell you! But..." He paused, grinning. "Oops! Guess I spilled the beans..."

Viveka had prepared all the pet talks in the short seconds that Rastian was crying. He was going to pump him up, make him feel alive! But as Rastian explained that he wasn't unhappy, but was crying tears of joy, he blinked and eventually smiled. "Oh, alright." He said. "Then tell me why you're so hap-"
Did he just say what he thought he just said...?!
"Whoooa, whooooooa!" He gasped, staring Rastian right in the eyes. "What do you mean by OUR dad? Last time I checked you didn't have parents, aside from Osha who adopted you!"

"I KNOW THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, TOO!" Rastian squealed, which wasn't completely true. He knew he had a father and a mother, and that his father was somewhere in Zena and his mother somewhere in Tale. But having a little sibling! That was never in the equation in his mind! His eyes gleamed as he gazed upon Viveka, a new found brotherly pride overwhelming him. Viveka was such a good person, a well rounded guy, their father must be just as wonderful! He felt like he wanted to get up and dance!
But, of course, he was still Rastian, and Rastian didn't dance around like a complete lunatic, even when he was THIS happy. Instead, he clung to Viveka tighter and decided to continue to explain the whole situation.
"Mycah sat Natsu and I down a few hours ago and told us a bunch of stuff..." He said. "He told me that my father was a man named Zevian, to which Natsu screamed..." His face distorted to that of shock. "THAT'S VIVEKA'S DAD! And I was like..." He closed his eyes and pretended to cry. "Oh my gooooood!"

"NO FREAKING WAY! NO FREEEAKIIIINGG WAAAAY!" Viveka squealed, echoing the same exact motions that Rastian was making. Mycah had been there his whole life, he would totally know that and be able to tell Rastian! This, THIS WAS HUUUUUGE! He and Rastian were BROTHERS! Half-brothers to be exact, BUT BROTHERS NONE THE LESS! His own eyes filled with tears as he gave his brother a very tight squeeze.
"This is the BEST NEWS EVER!" He cried, nuzzling Rastian's cheek with his. "I always knew we were close, we have always been! I just can't believe we've been THIS CLOSE and have had absolutely NO IDEA!" He flailed his hands around to show his emphasis on how crazy that idea seemed, until his expression too a sudden fall. He peered at Rastian, puckered his lip a tad, and sighed.
"But... If my dad had another child..." He mumbled. "Why... Why did he give you up...?"

Rastian took a deep sigh of relief as Viveka bounced about and squealed just as he had done. That was good! Viveka was just as excited as he was! He was happy to have a brother in him! He had been soooo nervous about approaching Viveka about this, and now that he knew that he had been overreacting about the whole thing, his confidence was shooting through the roof!
Then, Viveka spoke about their father, and questioned why Rastian had been given away to another family. His heart sunk slightly, but he reassured himself that it was alright. He was told why, and it was all okay.
"I was told that Zevian couldn't look at me the same after you were born..." He said, his eyes growing wide a second or so later. "Not that he was upset when you were born! It's not your fault, not at all! But, our dad kept putting my needs lower than yours and he didn't like that. He wanted me to be raised by someone who he knew would be accepting no matter what..." He snuggled closer to Viveka. "And I'm happy that he did, not that I wouldn't have been happier with him. But now that I know why he gave me up, I've accepted it. My life is just as pleasant as it is right now, there is no need to change it at all."

Viveka seemed confused for a moment as Rastian explained why he had been given up, and feel silent. Oh, so his dad had held an unfair bias against Rastian and decided to do away with what was bothering him instead of raise Rastian himself? He puffed out his cheeks at the thought. He would have adored having a brother to roam around with while he was growing up! How could his father do something so drastic? Couldn't he have just worked it out?
"Hm, well, I think he should have kept you!" He replied, turning his nose in the air. "Not that it really matters now that we're older, but I think he could have worked it all out if he tried! Giving you up, HUMPH! What a rotten thing to do!"
He sighed and shook his head, before gazing around the room. "Where is everyone, by the way?" He asked, grinning broadly. "I'm surprising Natsu by moving to Mez! Isn't that awesome? Now we can be closer and I don't have to marry a woman!"

Rastian rubbed the back of his head. Viveka could be a little bratty when it came down to the nitty-gritty of his personality. Sure, he would have liked to have been raised with his real family, but to him, Natsu and his family was just the same. He was loved, he felt loved, and that's all that mattered to him.
His face fell as soon as Viveka began looking around, his eyes widening sharply towards the end of the other's sentence. Moving to Mez? Away from their father? Whaaaat?! He thought they were getting along so well! He opened his mouth to protest against him living here when he saw the grin upon his face, causing him to pause and rethink his next sentence. Okay, so he wanted to live with Natsu and avoid an arranged marriage, sure, fine. That was something Rastian could help him with. But running away from home all of a sudden?! He was not getting caught up in anything like that! What would his father think?!
"Viveka, I'm excited for you and Natsu, and you know how much I approve..." He began, smiling weakly. "But yo-our father, won't he worry about you? You've left a note, haven't you...?"

Viveka puffed out his cheeks and folded his arms. Leave a note? Why would he do something as stupid as that? His father would know where to find him if he left a note! He did NOT want his father finding him, then his whole plan would be ruined! He'd have to marry Eije, leave Natsu, and be miserable for the rest of his life! HE WAS NOT HAVING THAT!
"Why would I bother?" He grunted. "He'd just drag me home to where I feel the least comfortable and make me marry this weird girl I don't even know..." He paused, pouting. "Why would you want something that terrible to happen to me, dear brother of mine?" This face always worked on Natsu and it worked on his father, and he hoped it would work on Rastian.

Rastian rolled his eyes, that stupid pout that Viveka did when he wanted someone to shut up and drop a subject. No, it wouldn't work on him, and it never will! Natsu practically melted in a puddle when Viveka made that face, something that made Rastian urk a little. If he ever found a lover, he hoped they weren't inclined to making such silly gestures and ploys.
"You should have, Viveka." He sighed, placing his hand on his brother's shoulder. "It's common courtesy to let people know where you're going and why. Unless they're abusing you, you must let them know that you're going to be okay." He rubbed his temples. "What happens if a storm hits and our father's convinced that you're somewhere in the mountains? He could get killed looking for you!"

"My father's smart enough to know I wouldn't go into the mountains!" Viveka squealed, his eyes narrowing sharply. He was terrified of heights! Why would his father think he was way up there when he knew very well that he wouldn't fathom going there?! The was ridiculous! He huffed and turned his face away from Rastian.
"And what makes you so certain that he would be looking anyway?" He said. "He's too busy hunting right now, he probably won't even notice I'm gone!"

Rastian grimaced. Their father wouldn't notice?! He wouldn't notice that his son, the one he decided to keep, the one who he raised on his own after his wife died?! How the hell wouldn't Zevian notice he was gone? Sure, maybe a day would go by without a thought, but no loving, mindful father would turn a blind eye to their child being gone for over a week or more without a single word! He turned his face away from Viveka and let out a low, rumbling growl.
"You're so selfish, Viveka. It's ******** incredible." He seethed. "He raised you all by himself to be a good person, and all you have to say about him is that he didn't care about you. Real nice, little brother!"
