He read his note through and, finding it satisfactory, passed it to Carp. The blue chirped understanding, hopped into the air and vanished.
Bereck yawned and removed his reading glasses in order to rub his face before reaching for his mug of klah. It was empty. The healer grumbled and pushed himself to his feet, one hand on the desk to help himself up while the other gently scooped up the green flitt who had been dozing in his lap and deposited her on his desk. Grasping his cane he slowly made his way over to the sideboard where a large terracotta pot sat under a knitted cosy. As he reached for it he realised he'd left his mug on his desk, muttered something under his breath, and nudged the crimson flitt on his shoulder to go and fetch it.
Sanguine hummed and dropped off her owner's shoulder, swooping over the desk to grab he mug in mid flight and then banking around the office to return with the prize. She landed on the sideboard and Bereck scratched her, taking the mug and filling it from the pot.

Initially he'd planned to go visit the 'Stolen Queen' as she was known while she was still young. That had been the plan, to visit, to talk with her, and to let the flicker of an idea that had developed with the clutching of her egg grow into something solid. Drama, events, and even work around Trine always seemed to take precedence and with Calanoth's memory of his golden daughter faded, the trip never seemed to take a place on Z'fer's priority list.
Now she was missing. A fact that had Z'fer highly irritated. He didn't like not knowing where she was with the desperate tactics the wherholders had sunk to using. He liked it even less though because SHE was a part of HIS plans and without her, they wouldn't work. Her desire to not get involved in either side had seemed promising to begin with. He didn't want to lose this chance and have to wait for Calanoth to catch and clutch another gold.
Thank Pern for Harpers. He'd heard of the defection of a Wherholder, a young bronzerider Z'fer remembered vaguely from Malvren, and better yet, that Natai had plans to start a new weyr. He just needed to find her.
Calanoth, ask Berath if I could speak with Master Bereck. Z'fer closed the folder of notes in front of him and tucked them back into the drawer of his desk. He'd work on them later.
Are you not feeling well?
No. I'm fine, there's something else I want to ask. Just ask if he has a few moments he could spare.
Berath, would Yours happen to be free? Mine wishes to speak with him.

Bereck paused mid-sip and frowned. "And what does he want?" Berath gave a mental shrug. After a moment Bereck shrugged and started to move back to his chair. Maybe it was something the wingleader was too embarrassed to come right out with, people were often reticent when they'd caught something from the pretty girl or 'accidentally sat on' foreign objects.
With this affirmed Berath reached out for the bronze dragon's mind.
As Berath addressed Calanoth and Bereck limped to his chair, all four firelizards currently in the room set about a bit of a tidy up of papers, closing files with confidential information in them and so on. Bereck kept a tidy, if cluttered desk so it didn't take them very long. Once they had finished the green, the blue and the silver each curled up on top of a stack of papers while the crimson fluttered over to perch on the back of Bereck's chair, waiting to step onto her usual perch once he was seated.
