Auri had been rather bored and pensive. For some reason he couldn't fathom, he had a tough time thoroughly enjoying looking at himself in the lake's reflection as was his normal doing. In fact, he did it so much that he had something of a minor reputation among them who knew him. It was something of a joke that his main 'job' in the pride was to adore himself. This actually wasn't even a job really; but he dedicated his life to this pursuit. If anyone were to ask him if it were even possible for his feelings for himself to grow or develop or do anything that represented effort in himself; he would be completely stumped. For Auri fumbled to even contemplate the thought that there was anything he could do or learn that would make himself better. He was already the gold of the earth. He was by far too handsome and gorgeous to dirty through laborous tasks. His dancing for pride festivals was the furthest of any activity that wasn't for himself that he'd do.
And, really, because of all the things this pride had been through given the last year of weather and mother nature venting herself in their locale; he felt that it was the least he could do. He had been trying to attend more events more faithfully. He realized that there might be youngins looking up to him. His general feeling about that, however, was that he was doing them all a favor by being there. They got to look upon him. If one of them were lucky, the ladies or the boys' future daughters might get to marry him. Or, in the very least, they might have his babies.
This was the Auri who sat at the edge of the water. So much water. It did seem to stretch on for quite a bit. Though it did seem to him that the flood waters had started to recede at a consistent rate; it was impossible to maintain a regular spot. It was also hard to spend a lot of time there at the banks without getting muddy. How he despised getting all dirty. This had led to his recent habit of frequent bathing. That allowed him to be clean and look at himself in the water. This summer afternoon, he had no intentions of doing a single other thing than having a nice bath.
