Generic thread for the purpose of designing an awesome tournament! Yeah!
Points of Discussion
Brackets: How many brackets will there be? I was thinking one for each rank, including E.
Characters: Will fighters use existing characters, or make new ones for the fights? My own preference, new characters.
Rewards: Who gets what? Top three in each bracket? Just the winner? And what should each rank get?
Annnnd, that's basically it. If anyone else can think of other points, speak up!
Note: This is an out of RP event. It is of low priority compared to any crew job or even the regular RP. I don't want to see piles of people in here and nobody doing anything in crew.

Stripped down profile format to include only relevant information. Removed Talents, because there's no way I'm judging talents for one shot characters, demons, because I'm thinking of using them or another tourny later, and anything that isn't needed for straight combat RP.

I think we should have the tournament with our current characters. This tournament could basically be a who would win between x and y.

The problem with that idea, is the lack of members. Currently the guild has about five active genin, two chuunin, one special jounin, one jounin, and one S rank. You really can't even begin to say that's a balanced playing field, and the victor is pathetically obvious. At that point we'd be arranging the tournament just to throw loot at the guild captain, which does not make any of us look good to anyone, much less any new members who come along during the tournament.
If we want to do that, I'd say we should arrange it in the actual RP. Have some random awesome thing that everyone wants, and a tournament in which it goes to the winner.
For this, I want to go the route of characters created for the sole purpose of the tournament. That way we can control pretty much everything. What skills are available, how many jutsu a person can have, and still have everyone able to participate at any given rank. Really my suggestion makes it six tournaments rather than just one, since everyone can participate in each. That also makes it last longer, so that new members coming in during the later rounds can still participate even if they weren't there for the start.

A tournament using new RPCs? Remember when mistah did this? Sure, it was fun, but it took away from the actual RP. And with that being scarce as it is, is this really a good idea?

That was very different. The scale we tried with that should have been attempted in an entirely new guild. This is more along the lines of the Shinobi Tournament that was going on when I first joined the guild.
And I think this is actually a pretty good time for such a thing. We've just put out several large changes to major systems, particularly the professions and types. This gives players the opportunity to try them out and have some fun on the side. Add in in game rewards for winning in the tournament and the issue of drop outs from the original tournament is taken care of too.
Basically it gives people the opportunity to try out character designs or bloodlines they normally might not go for without having to get a new character for the main guild.
And really, in our current state, there's nothing to lose where activity is concerned. I'm more inclined to think this could boost activity than truly kill it off. And whether it's in the main RP or in a side event like this, getting activity just in the guild is a step in the right direction.
