Rose: I'm so excited! So-so-so-so excited! The Annual User-Run Ball is right around the corner! I've been waiting for this all year and now it's finally here just in time for the end of Summer!

Dorian: Is it really that time of year again already? I suppose it is... the end of sunny days and long, warm nights. It's fitting to go out with as big of a 'bang' as possible, so why not throw a soirée?

Rose: A soir-wha?

Dorian:A get together, social, affair, dance.

Rose:Dancing! Oh, I love dancing. Do you think we'll do much of it at the ball?

Dorian:Plenty... metaphysically.

Dorian:It's a role-play event, dear. Any dancing, schmoozing, food and beverage sampling, performing and acquaintance making will all be role-played.

Rose:Role-playing! I just love to role-play. I can pretend to be anything I want - a princess, a knight, a space pirate, even a little kitty cat!

Dorian:I have a keen interest in it myself. It's proven to be quite entertaining with the more imaginative partners. A kitty, for example, is a very alluring suggestion...

Rose:You sound like you have a lot of experience.. I don't role-play that often - will you still role-play with me?

Dorian:Your dewiness is endearing. It would be my pleasure to give you some new experiences, no matter what skill level you think your role-playing is at.

Rose:Great! I'm going to invite all of my friends! I can bring as many as I want, right?

Dorian:The more the merrier. Just make sure they keep an eye out for the announcement when the ball begins. Everyone will get one so the party is just a click away!

Rose:Waaait! How long does the ball usually last again?

Dorian:The ball begins on Friday, the 23rd, and lasts through to Sunday. It usually presses into the Monday sometimes too. Plenty of people are still about during the last morning.

Dorian: I don't think you know what that means.

Rose:Uh... sure? Say.. did you mention the contests yet?

Dorian:You look like you'd rather mention it.

Rose:CONTESTS! Each room has different games and contests and fantastic prizes!

Dorian:There's also a chance that you could be named king or queen of those rooms, or even the ball itself. I've heard it's a pretty fantastic prize for that... though I suppose I'll be finding that out for myself soon enough. Who wouldn't name me king - king of all the rooms!

Rose:You can't enter in all of the rooms - no double dipping! You should read the rules a little more closely - they were set up by the Gaians who put the ball on for all of us so we can all have fun, you know!

Dorian:Of course! I was just... testing you. Here's another: did you know the ball staff are Gaians just like you, not Gaiaonline staff?

Rose:Yes, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't respect them!

Rose:Wait! Do Gaians need a profile to enter the role-play?

Dorian:Not at all! The ball is a casual, walk-in role-play. It's meant to be a fun and exciting weekend for everyone on Gaia no matter your role-play skills. There are no formal profile threads or Out of Character discussion threads - it's all very casual.

Dorian:There's a lot to discuss about an event that's been happening for 11 years.

Rose: That's right - I'd almost forgotten! The ball is as old as Gaiaonline, isn't it?

Dorian:It`s true. The very first ball even had official Gaiaonline items as a giveaway - but we won`t be having that this year.

Rose: Well it`s a userrun event. The prizes are from users for users!

Dorian:That sounded almost charismatic - are you taking up office?

Rose:I could role-play an office!

Dorian:... I think we will need to go over role-playing with you again. But anyways - you are right; the user-run ball is all about showcasing the users of the site, much like appreciating a tapestry with all of its different colours and stories being told all at once.

Rose:And it's a lovely tapestry... er.. ball! It's changed a lot from the beginning, getting bigger and bigger every year...
