Unnr prowled around at the water's edge, pawing at the mud and looking for the little creatures that liked to dwell there. She found they tasted the best. They were easy to catch too. Not that she needed her prey to be easy to catch, but it was always nice when you were hungry not to have to hunt long.
Scrounging up a few of the creatures, she quickly scarfed them down before settling down with her tail resting in the water. The sun was warm on her scales, and she tipped her head up, eyes closed as she enjoyed it. There wasn't much that she enjoyed these days. Sighing to herself, she opened her eyes slowly, her tail flicking at the water irritably, making little splashes. Why was she still letting it bother her? It was well past time to forget it and move on. She didn't need him, any more than he needed her.

Ashling rarely came down off of the mountain she lived on. Every time she did, it seemed to cause nothing but frustration and grief. The stares from other soquili was just the start. Worse was when her hooves touched dry undergrowth and started fires... she felt terrible, guilty... and hated to cause other people problems.
So... usually she just stayed up in the mountains where it was mostly rock... with the occasional tenacious tasty flower or shrub. Sometimes, she'd even resort to scraping up the foul-tasting lichens when she was hungry and it was particularly dry out.
But today was a lovely day, in Ashling's mind - it had just recently rained. The path was wet and soupy, and Ashling was feeling.... daring!
And lonely.
Carefully, she picked her way down the side of the mountain, ears forward and her tongue sticking out of her mouth just a bit in concentration. She was careful of twigs and loose rocks, determined that today she wasn't going to cause problems.
She made it all the way to the base of the mountain, following a slow but steady stream and keeping to its banks.
Unfortunately, most soquili, it seemed, were none too enthused about a post-rain soupy walk. It was quiet - all except for the bugs that seemed to love the weather and were very interested in the fiery light of Ashling's mane.
She sighed, looking around, shrugged, and continued to follow the river.
For an hour... two...
maybe coming down off her mountain wasn't the best idea.
But then, just as she was actually about to turn around, she heard something... a few crunches, some sloshing... she looked down at her hooves and smiled at the mud she had found herself in. Surely that would help prevent her from causing problems.
But then, she saw the glimmer of blue and yellow - another soquili! A... strange one... But a soquili none the less.
"Oh! Oh... hello there! Uhm... sir...?" Ashling started with a friendly smile (and a bad vantage).

Unnr hadn't moved from her spot by the water. She was still there, internally arguing with herself when the other mare stumbled across her. Anzu had betrayed her. He had hurt her, and he had chosen that...that...b***h didn't seem a strong enough word for her. Unnr hated her. She hadn't liked her before this, and she certainly did not like her now. How Anzu could pick the whore of a wind serpent over herself, she just didn't understand. She had been the one there at his side, making the escape with him. She had been at his side ever since, until now. Didn't that mean something? She had fallen in love with him, why hadn't he with her? He had hurt her, betrayed her, crushed her.
But yet...
Her heart still ached for him. She missed his voice, his touch. Even his damn ravens.
In mourning, Unnr didn't realize the voice calling hello was speaking to her. After all, she certainly wasn't a sir. She glanced in the direction of the voice, a slight frown on her face before she looked around. There was no one else around. Could... Could this fiery mare be speaking to her? And calling her sir?!
"Excuse me?"

Ashling blinked as the soquili turned to face her. For a moment, she didn't quite understand why they had such an offended tone to their voice... but then she noticed the more graceful arc of her neck, the features of her face.
Wonderful, just perfect. She had managed to make it off the mountain and not set anything on fire, and yet she still managed to insult and anger this poor mare.
"Oh... oh no." She stumbled over her words, "I am so sorry miss. I... well from behind... no I mean.." She snapped her mouth shut, forcing herself to try to think her words through. Without a mane, and with those unusual... were they fins? It was hard to tell the gender!
"I just... I've never seen anyone quite like you before." She winced. "I did not mean to offend you. I'm so sorry!" Those three words - I'm so sorry - might as well have been Ashling's catch phrase.

From behind she looked like a stallion? The very nerve of this mare. Unnr scoffed and got to her feet. She wasn't a big mare herself, but with her scales and ridges of fins she looked intimidating. Or at the very least, she considered herself to look intimidating. That was the look she was going for now at any rate.
"You aren't exactly 'normal' looking yourself, now are you?" she said, a bit of a sneer on her face as she nodded toward the other mare's fiery countenance, her cloven hooves, her strange horns. "You look just as strange as I do, maybe even more so, and I would thank you kindly not to gawk at me because of my appearance."

"Oh... oh dear..." Ashling fretted as she shifted from hoof to hoof, eyes darting. "no, I know... you're absolutely right. I... you see, I don't ah... don't get out much..." she forced an uncomfortable and awkward smile. "No, you are quite striking... those large frills and fins... You really are lovely... oh, are you able to swim under the water...?" She asked with a dreamy smile and trying (and failing) to diffuse the tension. She just had so many questions and wasn't quite sure of the order to present them in. It was so rare she met another soquili.
She stepped into the water down to her ankles, sighing with a smile as there was a sudden eruption of steam with a hiss. It faded quickly, and Ashling enjoyed the dousing of her hooves.
"Oh... I'm sorry... my name is Ashling... who are you?"
Kaitaia Feb 17, 2014: Are you still interested in continuing this RP? No hard feelings if not, I've been away from Gaia for like 6 months and just going through my ongoing RP log - just let me know either way smile
