 He missed the desert. And being who he was, it was rare for him to miss anything, in all honesty. He didn’t miss his family; that would be illogical. After all, he would see his mother and father again soon, he was certain. But the heat of the desert sun… He missed it more than he thought he would. A shudder ran down his body as he suppressed the urge to press himself close to the smaller stallion that walked alongside him. He couldn’t show his weakness in front of his Captain. That would be embarrassing; that was if the Vulcan showed emotions.
But Spock was a Vulcan, and he was not going to show that emotion. He had no need to. Lifting his head some, he peered around curiously, dark eyes lingering on the trees and chirping creatures. It was like an alien planet to him. This… what had Kirk called it? A jungle? It was very different than his desert home of sands and rocks, with the rare oasis paradise that his mother found. Or of Kirk’s home; the plains above the desert where they had met. Just at the cusp. He could remember that day perfectly. Kirk had been traveling on a dare from some of his friends, and had wound up in the desert; and from there, lost. He was on the brink of death when Spock located him. Confused, Spock had questioned what he was doing. But had barely gotten a response, aside from croaks for water and rest. Spock, being raised to help others if he could, did so, carefully moving Kirk over to a nearby oasis that he knew of, and helped him to drink from the crystal clear water.
Since then, they had developed a very close friendship. Spock had agreed to go on a “quest” of sorts with Kirk. To learn about the entire area that they resided. The mountains and jungle, rivers and seas. Spock was following him everywhere. They’d been on this journey for months, and over those months, had developed into much more. A term that Spock’s culture called “T’Hy’La”. Roughly meaning “brother, friend, lover”. And they were all of those. Spock could easily admit that to anyone who asked; though he was certain no one would. Kirk, on the other hand, had been flaunting it to anyone they met. It made Spock inwardly groan, before dismissing himself from the conversation and going to do more research on the plants and creatures that lingered within the area.
“Captain, is this really nessisary? It will take me roughly six months to decipher the information and relations of all the plants and animals within this one small area of the jungle. We could be here for quite some time. Surely you wish to explore a less… complicated location.” Spock said, his voice stoic, at best.

 Jim was fricken happy as all get out! God he couldn’t believe this! It was warm and humid and nice out. Who couldn’t love that, right? And aside from that, he was easily moving and having an all new adventure! He had been bored recently with the whole “let’s go explore a meadow”. YEA RIGHT! Hell no! This was better! There was danger and the possibility of getting hurt or having to save some poor creature from the claws of a large cat! Which was comical, considering his partner in crime! He grinned at Spock, watching the feline like stallion moving alongside him. Despite Jim being burning up, he knew that Spock was probably barely comfortable and wanted more heat. Jim could have sworn that he was an ice pack like, all the time. Poor guy. But Jim couldn’t control the temperature of the world, so he just continued onward and tried to find something new for them to do!
The blond haired stallion beamed when he thought he saw something awesome; which ended up only being a lizard… and a boring one at that. He half pouted, shaking his head with a grumble, before shifting to peer his gaze over toward Spock once more. The Vulcan was peering at some of the trees. Jim smiled, watching him with ease. Yea, he was a womanizer; flirted with everything that walked. But when it came to the time to finally lay down and rest, there was only one person he wanted to go and rest by. And that was Spock. Despite how “logical” and “stiff” he was, Jim enjoyed every second he had with the Vulcan ( Even when they were fighting ). He blinked his baby blues for a moment, before tilting his head away to look around. Spock had called them… what was it? Tuhighla? Something like that. And explained it; honestly, Jim barely paid attention. He just heard “lovers” and “soul mates” and was on board. How often does someone get to meet that person, right?!
”Aw, come on, Spock! It’s not so bad! It means we can spend a ton of time here and just kinda chill at the same time. See, so there’s an upside!” Jim laughed, his eyes closing for a moment, before he peered back at the pointy eared feline with a grin. ”Besides, this is probably the warmest place we’ve been to in quite some time, so why not hang out and let your body warm up. I could help, if you want.” He said with a grin.
When Spock just arched his right brow, just as he always had when he was amused/confused/annoyed/whatever it was that he was feeling, Jim just let out a laugh and shook his head again. It was so easy to make Spock do that; and he loved it more than anything else he could do with Spock.
