There was a full moon tonight, and it was absolutely splendid. Tsaphiel waited for nights like tonight, for it was the only time the land was bright enough to be seen from any angle. He was taking advantage of it completely, and had been flying for almost an hour, feeling no weight of the world on his wings. His spirits were high and it was the first time in a long time he felt so content.

Now it was time to take a break so he landed safely in a small grove and took in a deep breath. It was always important to him that he remained in the best of shape possible, but there was no reason to overdue anything tonight. He needed to save his energy and continue to be alert for the sake of others. As much as he wanted to take time for himself, it was a very rare thing. He already felt bad for having so much fun while he did.

He walked along the grove for a couple of minutes and was relieved to see a stream in the distance. Thanks to the moon, so much was visible tonight. He could see flowers along the grove, little details on the trees. It was almost surreal and as if a more mysterious sun had swept the land.

When he made it to the stream he bent over for a small drink. The area seemed quiet as it always was. Was no one else out and about on such a beautiful evening?

It had been a gruesome fight, nothing like she had ever experienced before. Her life had been full of struggles against her demons, death of others, and of course the unsettling betrayal of all that was deemed 'good' in the world. It had been like she was cast to the grasps of hell before she had a chance to make a mistake....fate sealed before her very first breath - even. It was her final showdown, the last grand act of what had been her life...leading upon death.

Yet....

Death never came.

Ragged breaths inhaled and exhaled as she lay upon the ground, her body nearly covered in horrendous wounds which by all means should have cost her life. Staring forward with a hollow blankness to her eyes; blood soaked into the ground below her from more than just her ever bleeding tail....from her entire being. Airlia wasn't supposed to be alive....but more importantly, Raven....wasn't supposed to have survived either. Now she was out in the world somewhere, just as injured as she; waiting for life to deal the hand of survival or downfall. How...could she have let her get away? The mare was different, somehow....she'd been so keen on keeping her away from that stallion she'd chased off she put up more of a defensive fight than she was ever aware the crazed mare was capable of.

Yet at the same time, Airlia had been more vicious and dangerous than she had ever been too; set on killing the mare who had taken everything from her.

Wincing against the pain, she was aware she must have left an impressive blood trail from the clearing where they had battled. Her hooves had been unable to take her farther than where she currently laid; waiting for the sweet embrace of death....even though her heart shattered. Hot, burning tears rolled down her cheeks....how could she face the world...when she had failed to take the revenge her family so deserved against their killer? A part of her wished for such an eternal embrace, unable to live without what had given her a happy life.....and a equal part was unwilling to die, till she ended the one who stole life from them....and from her.

"I'm so sorry..." She whispered, choked in the night.

The smell of blood was enough to make Tsaphiel freeze in horror. He needed to find the source, whether it be evil or someone in danger. This was his duty, and his happiness would need to be put on hold as it always was. As naturally as he had landed in the grove he was back up and in the air, and surveying the landscape for the situation at hand. His thoughts shifted from contentment to complete concern, and he started panting from the endurance he was putting forth for finding out what was going on. He sped as quickly as he could and didn't hold back.

As if the horrors of the situation couldn't get any worse, he was pained to see a figure lying on the ground in plain site. A bright creature, so painstakingly white and with so much red...blood... his eyes couldn't escape the obvious pain below him.

He dove down towards the ground and landed so hard he felt his ankles buckle, but there was no time to worry about himself right now. He rushed over and realized immediately it was a mare, and she was extremely hurt. There was a familiarity in her face that he noticed, but he was much too distracted to worry about that now.

Instinctively he knelt down beside her, surveying her wounds and noticing her tears. "I'm here to help." Naturally his eyes darted in both directions, looking to see if a terror was nearby to finish its attack. But then he noticed the trail of blood. Where had this mare come from? What had she survived?

"You need to lie still and breath slowly." he finally said, with a soft and loving tone. "What happened to you? We need to tend to these wounds."

So set in her mind's embrace, she had failed to notice many things about her surroundings. Blurred eyes offered her no solace to see the world about her, the stench of her own failure - her own blood enough to clog her sense of smell completely. Throbs of her own wounds as precious life blood dulled her sense of the earth's vibration...she was a mess. Her family would have been horrified to see her in such a state....but her own flesh and blood had been stripped from her; how could she be anything but?

In her soul she could feel the dark embrace of her demons whisper dangerous thoughts in her mind; her brain riddled with disease thanks to her mother and father's curse. She could not blame them....but in the same breath - why did it have to be her?

Wait...what was that?

A voice suddenly rang into her ears as her eyes snapped towards the dark one who had knelt down beside her. He was hard to make out thanks to the darkness of his pelt and the blurr of her eyes but her body went into whatever instinct it had left and she barred her fangs; a guttural hiss escaping her lips. Her tail was quick to arch up and nearly strike him with the deadly spikes covered in blood and black fur from her fight; but something deep down caused her tail to pause mere centimeters from his body.

Help....she'd picked out that word amongst the blurr if his voice initially; even if it took her brain a few minutes to comprehend it. That tone....it was not brash....if she could push back all the torment and pain she'd felt....she'd almost remember the loving tone her family used to speak in.

"I was supposed to die..." She croaked, her tail slowly laying back on the ground as she winced from the effort. "Who...are you?"

Tsaphiel was so focused on saving the mare that her reaction to him did not change his closeness to her body. He was a bit shocked to see the mare had fangs, and when her tail was mere seconds from him, he felt the wind stop and no pain come near him. Self defense was extremely common in these scenarios, and if he had gained some damage from her, he would accepted and forgiven for it.

There was so much blood everywhere that he needed to focus. As she lay there sputtering, he looked for points where she was bleeding the worst. When he spotted a couple of instances, he galloped over to a nearby flock of trees and looked for the biggest leaves he could find. Instinctively he ripped off a very large branch, and dragged it as close to the mare as his strength would allow.

As he started ripping off the larger leaves, he heard the mare speak finally. "There there, if you were supposed to die you would be. I am going to keep you alive, and you are going to survive this." He started placing leaves all over her body and adding pressure, hoping to stop some of the bleeding. In a couple of spots it was working well, in others she was incredibly hurt. The blood was calming but would not stop completely.

"You need not move. I'm trying to control where it hurts most... and my name is Tsaphiel. What is your name?" For many it would seem strange to ask her such a generic question, but Tsaphiel found in crisis mode sometimes it was best to distract the situation as much as possible. "You are so strong, you will recover quick, I can tell." Now if only he could patch up some of these wounds faster, he'd feel better about her safety. But.. what happened here? Who did this to her? Tsaphiel was worried considering the damage...

Stop...

Her inner voice whispered, her eyes wide as she watched the stallion work feverishly to try and save her life. Brows slowly knitted together as each leaf was pressed and held briefly against the worst of her wounds. He was an angeni, much like she was....so dark...nothing like she would have thought he'd be. His body was riddled with scars, much like her own; what had life thrown his way? Was this stallion another fallen from the Angeni divinity, cast to the shadows?

Is this what you want...? Her mind whispered to her again, and she closed her eyes tightly feeling the pressure in her chest return. The tearing of that most vital beating organ which seemed to break further with every passing beat.

"No.....I wanted to die...." Her voice rattled, and her vision blurred once again as tears began to fall down her snout; laying as still as she could otherwise. "It....was my last act, and I failed. Now...I have nothing left." She licked her dry lips, able to taste her own blood and the blood of Raven stained on her darkened lips. "I don't know what to do....survive to try and fight her one last time; or embrace death as a last chance to be with my family..."

When had she gotten just so pathetic? She'd lost so much in life...I guess she thought after that much pain her little family would be immune from the curse which seemed to linger over her family lineage. Oh, how she was wrong. Her children....her love. How could she have let it happen? She should have been able to end Raven, but there was something different about the mare. It boggled her mind, but she closed her eyes tight and felt a grimace overturn her face as the emotions ripped at her soul. "Tsaphiel..." The name was foreign on her tongue, but it was the only thing she had to focus on right now. "Why do the gods laugh at misfortune of those struggling....my name, Airlia....daughter of the cursed angeni...is it first on their list to rid in these lands...?"

Strong? No.....she might have been....but she tried to be good; and that...eventually lead everyone else to be taken away from her.

Tsaphiel was still hard at work, so much so that his brow continued to sweat at a rapid pace. He was using as much of the energy he had left to salvage the situation. And luckily, his efforts were continuing to work, and he saw the blood control itself. She was going to be all right.

He was still having a hard time understanding what Airlia was talking about. Why did she want to die so badly? There was no way Tsaphiel could understand anything about that desire. Even he who wore his memories in his scars every day, who thanked the higher powers for saving him as a child from that Skinwalker... There was so much why in what she was pleading. He had been like this once. It was such a terrible feeling.

Until he heard that detail, which instantly brought him the name.

"Reaper." was all Tsaphiel said, and he laid his eyes on Reaper's daughter. His daughter who was in so much pain and so much blood. So much fear and so much hate. It was all bundled up in the mess that he was trying so hard to rescue.

But still.. why?

"Airlia... I know we've never met, but we're bound together." It was very frightening for him to see her so in pain. Usually when he rescued others he didn't have an emotional connection, or was professional enough to proceed without feelings getting in the way. Now his mind was clouded and more worried then before. Family was everything to him. Even that side of the family. He promised his father he would protect EVERYONE.

"I am son of Raguel and Angel..." For some reason he felt weight in his words. He, being the lucky one, being born from that side of righteousness. "Please tell me what happened so I can help you resolve this. My existence is on helping others especially when in alone in the darkness, which is how I found you here." He backed up to give her some air, and sat down next to her quietly. He found his confidence again and focused. "What has happened to you? Please. Whoever did this must be punished." That was his general next-step, but he needed to learn what led to this.

The mare's ears perked at the sound of her father's name, her dark eyes opening slight to find the image of the dark scarred stallion. His feverish pace to try and control her wounds was truly a sight of such awe, to find such good in the world after she had been sure that Cobalt and her little family was her only such blessing....it almost made her speechless. However, she was so used to having good things come her way, only to be ripped mercilessly from her to strip her down once more. It was an endless cycle...be it chance, coincidence...but she was dead set in her soul it was but the curse her mother and father had spoken about - wrath from above.

"You....know of him..?" She assumed a stallion like he had a bit of a reputation amongst the Angeni, from what she could remember fuzzily from her childhood with her mother and he. Truth be she hadn't seen him since she was just a little filly. When he spoke further, she found herself questioning more. The mare had never given family much thought...only much later after she'd run away was she able to reconnect with her mother and a new branch of family produced by she and what she understood was Reaper's son, Ezriel. It was strange, to say the least..but something was there...a sanity which she'd never seen in her mother prior with her father. Together they had a trio of fillies....now mares. It was the closest thing she thought was her family aside from the one she'd made with Cobalt.

Cobalt....Oh Cobalt. Her babies....

Fresh tears stung and slipped out from her eyes as she felt her body tense to not break down for the umpteenth time. The names held no memories for her, but if her hunch was right...they possibly could have been distant relatives - who knew he was much closer to her in blood than she assumed. "A crazy unikalona....Raven....she's been after my family for some time now. She's...bent on the belief she'll gain the powers of those she consumes and wants my blood. I've.....we've always been able to fend her off but this time.....this time..." Airlia trailed as her voice cracked. "My daughter went missing nearly a year ago, we've been desperately trying to find her....it had to be her. She's the only one out for my blood....and now...my Cobalt....my mate....she took him too. So much blood...." Her eyes closed tightly once more. "I can only assume she might have already downed my two sons as well, but I have yet to find a trace of them as well. My family is gone....my last act was to drag her down to hell with me...but it went horribly wrong..."

No worries! I'd love to continue. <3

Tsaphiel knew him all too well. He knew the pain his father felt every time he mentioned Gabriel. It was hard for even Raguel to want to mention Reaper's new name, for the memories of Gabriel were much happier then the latter. As a young colt Tsaphiel wanted to do everything in his power to make his father proud, to prove there was good his children. That he and Angel could produce kind, caring and a loving lot. No matter how happy his father would seem with their larger family, Tsaphiel always felt a darkness. His father did no know that Tsaphiel's acclamation to the nighttime started at such a young age, and he would watch his father in agony every year when it was close to Gabriel's birth day...

Despite all of these memories, Tsaphiel snapped himself back into the moment. For a long time things seemed better between Reaper and Raguel, but now seeing his daughter in such a state caused great worry for the stallion. Family was family, and their blood was special because it held them all together.

When he listened to the mention of Raven, Tsaphiel's eyes darted left and right to make sure no such unikalona was near. Once he confirmed the coast was clear and no danger was in scent and sight, he lowered his head to get closer to the mare. "Unfortunately I don't know how to make the situation at this moment any better. But what I can provide as guidance is that you must live. There is still hope to find your daughter, and train yourself for the proper vengeance against Raven. I can help you."

It would take time, and the mare would need her strength back. He could train with her. Tsaphiel pulled back a little bit as not to overwhelm Airlia, but he knew deep down she could not give up. Not after so much sacrifice. Not all was lost. "I can pull in as much family as it takes and destroy Raven. Then we can find your daughter. You have us here to help."

Was there really hope? Hope her crazed and demented daughter afflicted by her mother's curse really be alive? Hope he sons didn't meet the fate she could only see in her nightmares? It was hard to believe there was someone trying so hard to help her see all was not lost, that something was trying to help her cling to this world that how many times tried to wipe her from existence.

Family...

It had always been family, Her mother, new sisters....her own family born from a desperate need of acceptance - no...it was more than that. She'd needed Cobalt, and he her as if the pair of them were the only oxygen the other could breathe. Airlia wanted to believe the words Tsaphiel told her, and as she turned her head slight and opened her dark eyes she looked into his own voidless orbs. Train....become stronger. Vengeance...Family. Could she really allow this fight to be burdened on anyone else's shoulders?

Could she risk giving herself hope that it would work out like he said, and that there truly was happiness at the end of this dark path?

Grimacing the mare slowly and painstakingly pulled herself up out of her own blood; the sticky liquid running down where it had pooled on her body. Thankfully his leaves stayed put to clot her wounds as she pulled her legs under her body, but this only made her push more as she planted a hoof on the ground in preperation to stand. "I want to believe you..." She hissed against the pain, the blood pooling from her tail spike gave a spurt from her exertion. Dipping her head down so her blood caked bangs shadowed her eyes, her teeth bared. "I'm tired of being...a monster...." It may take some time before she could accept that she should be allowed to live, especially if her hunch was true that her loved ones had passed to the great beyond....but if there was a chance, even a small chance...Airlia wanted to pull herself up out of her shadows and demons and seize the possibility.

He was nervous to see her rise with so much pain and blood still looming, but backed up to give her space as she rose. He listened silently as she spoke, pondering the many times he had heard the word monster in his life. There were so many different types of monsters and demons that sometimes the word itself consumed him with memories, pain and fear in others.

He had a decision to make as a foal. From the moment he left his basket to being attacked brutally by a Kalona colt, he had lived and survived in a world with monsters. As his family nursed him back it was then he had a decision to make, join the monsters or live beyond them. He would never be rid of them, and his scars would never free him from the memories. But he would never join them or give them the satisfaction for overtaking his life.

"We all can become monsters if we want to." He finally said, with a hint of sadness. "But I do not believe that to be true for you." As he watched her stand, he too resumed a standing position next to her.

"All families are cursed with burdens. It may feel as though ours has been hit the hardest, but I have met and helped thousands of others. We all carry and fight darkness every day... but I'm sorry, I do not see it in you. You are living now to carry another chance." And their family was strong. They could help her fight this demon and bring about a better future.

"I will do anything I can to help you, but you must rise above this darkness and move forward in this struggle. Once that step is achieved you will have more power then you imagined." Tsaphiel lived in the light, and that kept him stronger then anything else ever did in his life. This was all he knew and could give to her as guidance. He hoped for her sake she would allow him and their family to help fight this battle.

"I'll take that...as a compliment." Airlia groaned out, pushing her legs and her aching muscles to rise out of the pool of her own blood and into a wobbling mess of a mare. Slowly her wings opened, not very far but enough to give her a tiny semblance of balance she needed to keep standing. For as long as she could remember she didn't desire to be a monster, but the seeping genes of her estranged parents didn't give her the chance to truly explore options of coping.

She had become a monster before she realized what happened.

However, it wasn't forever she was cast to the wolves of hell; when she found her dear cobalt...she found what her soul needed. Who knew it was love? She'd feared now, without him, without her children...without love; she'd be back to those monstrous nightmares she called life once again. Yet...as she looked at the kind face of what she'd come to find out was her family; Airlia wanted to cling to that hope that she could remain in some semblance of sanity once again.

The wrath of her revenge was another story - though.

"This...family..." Airlia took a fragile step or two; hearing the audible drips of her own blood coming off her hooves as she stepped out of the puddle; towards her tomorrow. "How...is it. Is it large..?" or really....perhaps a better question as a memory popped into her mind. "Will they like me..?"

She'd remembered something her mother had told her as a passing thought - Nimue not really able to recall a lot of things on will and simply one had to try and listen to the right crazed rant. She'd remembered her mother saying they'd both been rejected by all they knew - Reaper and Her....she'd discovered her mother was looking for her soulmate she'd had in the heavens; and Reaper had been looking for destruction of all the heavens. Both had been scorned by their own kind and their loved ones. It seemed though that he had accepted her, so Airlia could only assume the rest of the family felt differently now? She wanted to make sure though, last thing she wanted was to bring unhappiness to them in the form of painful memories.
