Even though it felt like he’d just awoken from a deep sleep, Shiloh was sprawled out on the bed in his dorm room, lounging lazily. He wasn’t really a lazy person, though he enjoyed sleeping in as much as anyone, but coming from a small town where nothing ever happened to a place where it seemed everything happened, well, he was a little worn out. His new coat was hanging on the bedpost, his scarf wrapped overtop of it, and now that orientation was over, and he’d received all his necessary items, he figured the next thing to do was to introduce himself to people. Haruko had certainly suggested he do so. But Haruko hadn’t had to walk around the entire facility, nor take in a seemingly insurmountable amount of new information. The new knowledge swam about his head, and he closed his eyes. He’d just rest here for a little bit, and then see about making friends. He’d left the door to his dorm room open despite wanting to take a break, his duck-printed boots making a colorful doorstop. If new friends came to him, that would make things even easier.

Colorful doorstops drew Maebe to them like a moth to a bright flame. She was bent down, resting her hands on her knees, and staring at them. She just stared. They were like rainboots. In a door. She didn't even try to look in the door yet, she was just staring at the boots themselves with absolute rapture. But eventually they were just shoes, and she ventured forward just enough to look inside the door. By ventured, of course, I mean she kind of hopped, still crouched down, and peeked her head in. All that fluffy yellow hair flopped over to one side as she peered. "Hhhiiii." She whispered, having noticed someone was sleeping on the bed. If they didn't hear her, and didn't react... she would be stealing these boots. Her sticky fingers were edging towards them already.

He was entertaining the possibility of sleep, but he wasn’t asleep yet and the faint greeting wasn’t lost on his ears. Shiloh pushed himself up from the bed, resting his arms on his knees as he stared curiously at the shock of blonde hair occupying his door. “Hey there,” he answered, smiling at the girl, noticing her hands inching intently towards his boots. “Like my door stop, eh? Those duckies, they’re pretty flashy.” “Careful though,” he warned as he shifted off of his bed, though his expression was still warm, not minding the intrusion, nor attempted theft, in the least. He ambled over to the door, bending down to collect his boots. “I hear those quackers bite.”

s**t. She snapped her fingers as he leaned down to take the boots, and she straightened out and looked absolutely innocent. "They're really nice." Her unimpressed expression seemed a little too hipster for his duckie joke. "I guess. Where'd you get them? I might want a pair some day." Your pair, her non-chalant eyes said. "You know. In case it rains over here. Or something." She'd already gotten distracted with looking at his hair. It was so pink. Her blase attitude started to melt in favor of just a little bit of admiration. "Daaaamn. You got any more of that hair dye? That's a perfect color, I wouldn't mind a streak."

“Does it rain here often?” he asked her curiously, meandering back to his bed and sitting on the edge of it as he began to pull on his boots. “I got these back home, they’re just a dollar store find, nothing special. Not sure where you’d get them here, though, something tells me you’re fresh out of shopping malls and outlet stores.” Boots on, Shiloh lifted his head and smiled at her, his expression a little lopsided. He noticed her staring, and was about to ask if she needed anything else when the girl mentioned hair dye. Oh, he thought, as he played with the longish strands of his hair, the pink so faded now that his natural blonde was coming through. “I have a little left, if you want? I need to re-color mine anyway, maybe you can help and in exchange, a nice pink streak for you.” He paused, then smiled at her again, sticky fingers and all. "I'm Shiloh, by the way."

That was a good question. She wished she was knowledgeable enough to answer. "I haven't been here long enough to say. But I'd guess so? There's always so much fog. It's got to be from a wet climate." Uuugh, he'd found them at a dollar store. That meant she'd never find another pair just like it. Clearly the answer was just to keep trying to steal his. Yes. Her lips parted in a gasp when he offered to share his hair dye, and she fist pumped. "Yessss." This was exactly what she'd hoped for. "Sure, I can help you re-do your hair. I did mine once or twice, nothing fancy like pink though. But I feel like it could be fun in a place like this. Seems like everyone's so damn interesting looking, right? I could use an upgrade." And him in the shower would give her another chance to gank dem boots. She held her hand out politely. "I'm Maebe. It's nice to meet you, Shiloh." Whether or not she stole from him regardless, he was a rare breed - someone tolerable in a world full of intolerable people. She would try not to piss him off too much.

“Yeah, there sure is a lot of fog, didn’t think it’d be so gloomy here. Do you guys ever see the sun?” He was still sitting on the bed, and he reached over to his bedside table for a hair elastic. He tied his hair in a low, loose ponytail, and grinned at her. “Perfect! It’s much easier with another set of hands. And yeah, uh, interesting is definitely one word for it… I haven’t met very many people yet, but everyone certainly looks interesting.” It wasn’t like he was really one to talk, with his pink hair and ducky boots. “You’re pretty cute as it is, Maebe,” he said, shaking her hand and smiling at her warmly. “I don’t know if I’d call it an upgrade, just a little frosting on the cake.” He laughed then, and got up, still holding her hand a moment before he gently let go. “It’s nice to meet you too. Did you want to do it now?”

"I sure haven't." She mumbled grumpily. "Might be worth asking one of the old farts though. Maybe they've been here long enough to see some sun." It might be a good question to ask her particular favorite old fart, Jude, later on. She gave him two thumbs up at the compliment, appreciating the effort. To consider a streak frosting on the cake made it sound even more fun. And less permanent. She liked that. And just like that, as easy as that, they'd gone from acquaintances, to doing each others hair. "Yeah, I've got nothing else to do. Let's dye."

“Old farts, eh? Doesn’t sound like you’re too impressed with the locals. Again, haven’t met many myself…” He had sauntered over to his desk, a small wooden piece that fit into a corner of his room, and was rummaging through the drawers. “Aha,” he said suddenly, pulling the jar of Manic Panic out triumphantly. “Here we go... Now all we need are some towels, oh and you probably don’t want to wear anything nice… Hm. I didn’t really pack any ratty stuff, should have thought of that. You cool with guys in their underwear?” He grinned.

Maebe wasn't too impressed with anyone, really, so Shiloh's point was pretty spot on. She moved to sit on his bed while he looked for the goods, and when he told her not to wear anything nice, she looked down at her clothes. Everything she was wearing was nice. ): "Yeah I guess." She got up to close his door, and lock it. "So long as you're okay with girls in their underwear, because I am, and this shirt is vintage." She made a face. "I didn't bring a towel though. You don't have extra?"

He watched curiously as she got up and locked the door, quirking a brow. "We're playing with our hair, not each other Maebe," he said, laughing and moving to his closet. He pulled two towels down, and tossed one her way before setting his on the bed, and stripping down to his boxers. "And as much I would love a pink sink, I think this sort of thing is better suited to somewhere with showers. Think you can brave the boy's room?"

Maebe looked like he was going to throw one of his ducky boots at his own head. "Don't get sassy with me boy. I just didn't want someone walking in on me in my bra." But the mention of the public showers had her slumping, and she groaned in dismay. "Aw maaan, there better not be any skeeves in there. If there are, you have to kick them out." It wasn't clear why Maebe felt comfortable around Shiloh, and he did not count as a 'skeeve', but she stripped down to her very modest looking underwear and wrapped a towel around her body. "I mean, if there's a hottie in there.. don't kick him out. Just.. play it cool." She unlocked the door.

"Not sassing you, just saying," he laughed again, grabbing his towel and ushering her out the door and down the hall to the shared men's bathroom. "I'm sure you'll be fine, there's never anyone in there anyway. But, if there is, I promise I'll chuck 'em out the door if they so much as perv on you even a little. Unless they are hot, then I will be cool." He held the door open, grinning. "After you, madame."

Maebe listened very carefully, and nodded when all of her conditions were met. "Yes, excellent. Well done." Shiloh was a keeper. He listened. She toddled out the door, already missing her shoes - or maybe she was just mourning the lack of ducky shoes on her feet. Nonetheless, she walked on, headed for the showers, and started to comb her fingers through her hair to get any knots out. A pink streak. She was excited about it - not that it showed, she didn't really have the emotional range to show excitement in abundance. She just looked pleased with herself. "This should be fun." She murmured as she walked. Hopefully the shock of color would brighten an otherwise dark and dreary new existence.

"Of course it'll be fun," Shiloh added, stepping into the shower room and setting his towel in a bench. He had been dying his hair for as long as he could remember, his natural color so blonde and pale that it lended itself well to dyeing. Besides, natural colors could be so boring, no personal flair. He'd tried a variety of colors but 'Pretty Flamingo' had stuck the best and had become sort of his trademark, even if he wasn't particularly partial to the color pink itself. It was bright, and sunny, and it made him happy nonetheless.
"So, do you want a big streak or a little streak? And you sure just one?"
