This is a solo RP between my, KiiNiku's, "Quionue" and "Nianuer." Please do not post here unless you were invited.
Teepee

User ImageThe day had been long and hot, and Quionue was so happy that the sun was finally setting so as to cool down the earth. She sighed as she made her way to her normal spot at the base of the mountain where she star gazed. She was so close to figuring out the perfect conditions for a meteor shower, but it didn't seem close enough. She would probably never be able to figure it out because they were so rare and so hard to remember the conditions of the previous event.

The crickets and frogs started to chirp around her, their "voices" rising into the air to break the silence. Her tail flicked with her ears toward the sound. It started in the trees at the base of the mountain, just like it always did. She walked slowly toward it, always wary of any one or anything that might try to do her harm.

Like usual, nothing came out of it. She smiled to herself and continued through the small grove of trees. It got darker as she did, but that was only because the canopies of the trees of this particular grove were very thick. She knew that only birds and insects resided in the grove, so she didn't pay attention to when something was following her through the grove.

As she made it past the line of trees she was at the base of the mountain. She looked up at the pink and orange sky, lightly frosted with clouds that reflected those same colors, only much richer. The smile on her face only widened as she saw a shooting star fly by the clouds.

Tonight would be one of those rare nights of the year.

User ImageNianuer had been frolicking through the plains during the day, scoping out any competition that may want to take her up on a fast-paced race through the grasses. She was getting used to this land fairly quickly - it was much different from the mountains that they grew up on. She could feel the adrenaline running through her as she sought out someone, anyone, to challenge her at something. But no one wanted to. She was going home empty hoofed.

As she made her way to the base of the mountain she instantly perked up when she saw her twin, Quionue, walking the same way. She was about to call out to her when an idea crossed her mind. She smiled almost wickedly as she chuckled to herself and started to slowly creep behind her twin. She was a good twenty paces back, trying to watch Qui's movements as she went so as to not alert her to her presence.

As Quionue disappeared into the grove of trees that was the last step before making it back to what they called "home" Nianuer decided that it would be a fun idea to try and scare her. She made a wide circle to a fairly decent distance away from her twin. Qui would never even notice her.

The grove was thicker where Nianuer went in. She got stuck in a tangle of vines, but managed to push through after struggling. It was never like her to give up and she wasn't about to start now. The insects buzzed around her while the birds were silent for the night. She could hear a bat fly overhead and then wondered, Am I in the same grove as her? Usually there weren't any bats in the grove, but maybe that was because she was usually on the other side of it by this time of night.

As she stumbled her way out of the grove she noticed Quionue standing several paces away, looking up at the sky with wonder on her face. Even without seeing Quionue's exact expression, Nianuer knew exactly what her sister was thinking.

So, very carefully and quietly, Nianuer made her way up behind her sister. Ever so carefully she tried not to make a sound. Closer...

Closer...

"HEY!"

Quinonue was getting settled at the teepee's site, keeping a safe distance away from it. She knew that she would be just fine in case any trouble seemed to arrive because then she could just run and hide inside. But she didn't think that would be needed tonight. It was a calm night and everything seemed to be just as it always was at that moment.

And then she heard the cry and practically jumped out of her skin.

She turned to see who it was before she was about to bolt, and then she realized, with her blood starting to boil, that it was her twin who had decided to give her a heart attack. She was furious, but at the same time she knew that this was just how they tricked each other. It was a way they showed love for one another.

She ground her teeth before she turned to Nianuer and said, "Were you trying to give me a heart attack?" She glared at her sister, completely unphased that she was sticking her tongue back out at her.

She shook her head and turned back to the hill before she decided to walk up it. There would be a much better view of the sky from just a little higher above, and the hill wasn't that large, so Quionue decided to climb up it. And this would give her enough alone time away from her sister to enjoy something she would want to do, not what Nianuer would want to do.

As her twin reacted and practically jumped out of her skin, Nianuer could barely contain her amusement and so she proceeded to laugh. It wasn't nice what she did, but she didn't care. They had always done stuff like this since they were fillies, and she wasn't about to stop now. She was sure Quionue would get her back later, anyway.

As her twin walked away, she started to follow. "Oh c'mon, Qui! You know I was just fooling around!" Nianuer pleaded for her sister's forgiveness. She always hated when she was mad at her. But it was always so fun to see her reaction that lead up to that point.

Nianuer sighed, dipping her head. She felt kind of guilty, but at the same time she felt elation. As she looked back up she noticed something glint in the corner of her eye. She looked up at the darkening sky and noticed a shooting star whiz by.

A smile spread across her face as she gasped. It had been so long since she saw the last meteor shower and now she'd be able to see another! No wonder Quionue was upset she had disturbed her.

Nianuer quickly followed her twin up the hill, trotting to catch up to her. "Hey, Qui! I'm sorry I scared you! I didn't know there was going to be shooting stars tonight!" She laughed softly at the thought of making a wish on a star. She had heard of the concept when she was a filly from her friends, and so every year she hoped to make at least one wish that would always come true.

With a stubborn edge to her walk, Quionue continued to walk up the hill. She was determined to reach the top before her sister could catch up to her, but that seemed unlikely. Nianuer liked to watch the shooting stars just as much as, if not more than, she did. She replied, "Yeah, well maybe you should take a look up everyone once in a while instead of always looking at your reflection in the water!" She huffed, her cheeks puffing and her ears twitching back as she cantered up the hill. She didn't want to see her sister right now. One, she hated being scared because her courage was never high enough to begin with and she always felt like she was stronger than that, and two, she hated that her sister knew of her weaknesses and could potentially hone in on them. It wasn't fair in Quionue's opinion, but it wasn't like she was going to do anything about it.

Besides, she had the stars to look up to and observe. She was so close to determining the perfect conditions for the shooting stars as well as when to view them. Tonight was a near perfect night. Very few clouds drifted by in the sky, a warm gentle breeze flowed over them, and there were no outside lights from which to hinder their viewing as the sun made its way down the horizon to disappear for the night. The moon glowed brightly in the sky as the colors changed from pink and orange to dark and light blue as the sun continued to make its decent.

She made it to the top of the hill where no trees blocked her view from the sky as well as the rest of the land below her. It was a gorgeous outlook and she loved to come her to think and to study. With an almost happy sigh Quionue looked up to the sky as three stars flew by in the sky. The big show was about to start.

And now she wanted her sister beside her. She looked back at Nianuer, who was right behind her of course, and she had an apologetic look on her face. With an apologetic return smile Quionue motioned with her head for her sister to join her.

"Did you know that this is practically the perfect night to be watching this?" Her voice became more enthusiastic as she spoke. "The sky is bright from the moon, which glints off of the stars even more. There's barely any clouds int he sky to block our view from them, and there are just enough stars in the sky to make this spectacle even more..." She had to find the word to describe it. The best word she could think of.

"Fabulous." The smile on her face widened as her tail twitched and she practically bounced for joy.

The comment her sister made struck her hard. Nianuer didn't see herself as narcissistic, but she was obviously wrong. If her sister felt so then it's possible it was true. She valued her sister's opinion to the ends of the earth and she hated that her sister felt that way about her. She thought for sure that she was just teasing Quionue, but there seemed to be something else that was bothering her. But what? Nianuer looked at the ground, her brows furrowed in concern and sadness. She had to find out if there was anything wrong with Quionue. She didn't want her to suffer alone if there was.

Nianuer looked up to Qui, who was cantering up the hill and so she quickly followed suit. She followed her twin up the hill just wanting to talk to her. She looked at her, determined to get somewhere with her. She wanted to know everything about her sister because she could tell her sister anything as well.

As she made it up the hill and gave her an apologetic look, Quionue smiled back and started to explain the perfect conditions for star viewing. She had heard this speech before at least five times, but she let her explain anyway. She knew her sister was determined to figure out what was the right conditions for viewing the stars. She loved the stars and wanted to know everything about them, but she probably never would. They both knew that, but it was always fun to at least learn something.

Nianuer, on the other hand, loved to explore and learn more about other Soquili, and even the two-leggers. She felt that she would be able to better understand the world by hearing the trials and fails of others, or how they did something a certain way and the results of that. She knew that there was plenty of available and wonderful advice that she could learn from others, and she only wished that Quionue could learn that, too. But her sister was too shy and too focused on her own individual studies to even think of talking to another Soquili about how the world works.

She giggled as Qui said 'fabulous.' She replied in an almost posh voice, "Oh yes, quite fabulous, darling." They both giggled and looked up at the sky, excitement and wonder crossing their faces as the stars started to multiply. Three shot through the sky, then seven, then twelve. There were more and more that filled the sky and the stars looked like they would move with the shooting stars.

"Make a wish, Qui!" Nianuer closed her eyes and started to think of what she'd want her wish to be. She wished for her sister and that she would be able to open up to other Soquili soon, maybe even find a stallion who could steal her heart. She closed her eyes tighter, defining the wish even more: that they would always be able to have moments like this together for as long as they can. That they'd always be the best of friends and nothing would ever change that. She loved her sister too much to let anyone or anything come between them, and she wished that that would never change.

As the two giggled and the sky filled more and more with the shooting stars, Quionue couldn't help but feel as though this is where she was meant to be, that this was where she always wanted to be: by her sister's side. The two may have their ups and downs just like any sibling, but their bond was strong and would never be broken. Quionue could always count on that whenever she had any doubts and her and her sister's relationship.

With that thought putting her mind at ease, she closed her eyes and thought of a wish. I wish that Nianuer and I will always be the best of friends, that nothing will ever be able to pull us apart. As she opened her eyes, the brightest shooting star she had ever seen whizzed by, lighting up the ground ever so slightly as it went by before it fizzled out in the sky. She was in awe with it.

The smile that lit up her face was reflected on her twin's. The two obviously felt that their wishes would come true. And so they would.

~*~*~*~

As the meteor shower drew closer to its end, the meteors started to come less and less frequently. The night was starting to become lighter and the dawn would soon be upon them. Quionue yawned as she looked at Nianuer, who looked just as tired as she felt. "That was an amazing show, wasn't it?" She chuckled softly before turning and started to head back down the mountain to the teepee. It would be another wonderful addition to her "mental journal" as she took notes on just how long this shower lasted and the largest and brightest meteor she had ever seen. It had been beautiful and she didn't want to let go of it. She only hoped that Nianuer would feel the same - maybe not the same, but at least appreciate what they both saw that night.

As the two made their wish and opened their eyes, the largest shooting star they had ever seen crossed the sky, the light from it lighting up their faces and the ground ever so slightly before it disappeared into the sky forever. Nianuer was in awe by it, and could tell her sister was, too. She had never seen anything like it and she was really happy that she had been able to share the experience with Quionue. It had certainly felt like a bonding moment, but more importantly to Nianuer, it felt as though her wish had come true.

~*~*~*~

As the meteor shower was drawing to a close, Nianuer couldn't help yawning loudly. This had been the longest she had stayed up in a very long time and she felt like it was totally worth it. But now she was exhausted and couldn't wait to go to bed. She had plans for the day (or, at least she thought), and so she wanted to get some beauty rest before she set out on her day's adventures.

At her sister's questioned she jumped slightly, but she nodded. "It was beautiful." She smiled at Quionue and started to head back down the mountain with her when a thought crossed her mind. "Hey, Qui?" Her sister stopped and looked back at her. "Why don't we stay up here tonight? The stars can be our protectors and guides for our dreams." She looked up at the sky as she said this, a smile on her face as she thanked the gods for allowing her and her twin to bond over such a special occasion.

She looked back at Quionue, hopeful, and when her sister nodded she squealed with delight. The two stood close together, resting their chins on each others' backs, and soon they drifted off to sleep.
