< < Stop whining. > >
It had been nonstop in her thoughts since she finished her spar with one of the other Mist hunters. Stormy had been hoping to unlock that second charge she'd been told about, but as it was Thane seemed too insistent on their original attack--one that always came at some sort of cost. In this case, she'd missed horribly and broken her shield, resulting in some embarrassed handwaves and a lot of willpower not to cry out at how much the acid had burned into her skin.
It wasn't simply the pain that made her worry. It was the scarring it might leave behind that concerned her, for what was attractive about holding hands with someone who had awful deformed skin? It was a rare moment of vanity she didn't often have but, now in a relationship, found it very, very important.
Her hands were still tingling unpleasantly and were raw in several places, making any twitch of her fingers a minor agony. Stormy kept her mouth clenched, venting her whines mentally to Thane's many eye rolls. She entered the infirmary without so much as a look up, having to manually override her feet before they led her to Nevada, as they had done so much the past week. No, she needed to find bandages . . . bandages and ice. Aloe vera. Did they have that here?

Heidi was strictly ignoring the dude from before. There was no room 394. Stop it. Geeze. She was stocking bandages and taking inventory on unused syringes and other tools when she spotted Stormy in the corner of her eye. Heidi blinked and looked up from what she was doing. Eh? Why was Stormy walking out like that? "Hey, Stormy!" Heidi called out cheerfully as capped her pen and wandered over to the other girl. It'd been awhile since she'd seen her! What was she-- Oh geeze!"Uh..wow. Um. Are you okay? Want me to help you with that? Eugh. It looks like it stings. Did you burn them?" Heidi cringed at the sight, gently holding one of Stormy's hands in hers without making any of her fingers curl up and hurt her more. That looked awful. "Come here, I'll put some water and stuff on you, 'kay?"

At first she didn't hear her name being called, caught between running over what she did wrong to make the charge blow up in her face and remembering where she could grab the materials needed to patch herself up. When she did belatedly notice it, Stormy's steps began to slow as she looked around with some confusion; had she come here often enough even strangers knew her? Ah, but wait she knew that voice...
"Hi, D," she greeted with a wincing smile. "No it's fine, really, it's one of those 'looks worse than it actually does' things--" But the moon hunter held one of her hands to examine it regardless which, gentle or not, resulted in a knee-jerk reaction to pull her hand away and fold them both to her chest--Heidi had gotten a little close for comfort, and a bit suddenly for Stormy's tastes--which was an awful idea nevertheless and sent a spasm of pain up her arms and created a soft noise in her throat. Nonono, nobody was supposed to see that...
Stormy was reluctant to seek help (especially since it was her fault she was injured at all), but...She /had/ wanted to talk to Tuck's girlfriend for a while. This might be the easiest window of opportunity to. "Just a training accident," she went on with an apologetic smile. "Nothing serious. But, um, if you want to help I won't say no...It'll be hard to bandage myself like this and stuff."

That was an awkward pause. Hei. Di. We--OH! Ahaha! She was playing with her name! That was clever! "Well that's goo--" Heidi raised her hand in a sign of surrender, her eyes wide. Touching was bad. Okay. Cool. She'd remember that. "Sorry, sorry. I was just.." Awkward. Did she completely mess up? When Stormy relaxed again so did Heidi, her smile kind of returning. Training accident. Right. Yeah, that happened a lot. "I understand. And sure, I'd be happy to. C'mon this way," Heidi grabbed a roll of bandages, a bottle of aloe vera, and a facecloth. She then gestured for Stormy to follow her. They stopped at the first sink Heidi saw and she set everything down on top of her clipboard. "This might sting a little, but I have to do it until it stops hurting, okay? I'm sorry." Heidi gave Stormy an apologetic smile as she wet the facecloth and held her hand out for one of Stormy's hands. She waited until the Mist was ready before very gently pressing the cold, wet cloth against the burned hands. The entire cloth went over her hand to cover her palm to her finger tips, gingerly pressing down on it enough for it to actually cool her hand. "There, how's that?"

Ahaha...ha...good job, Stormy. Really great one. Two seconds in and you're injecting awkward. Pressing her lips together, she nodded gratefully and followed Heidi to the sink. "That's fine..." She braced herself, sucked in a breath, and offered her hands over after a moment.
With a sharp breath Stormy felt the pain come back in full, almost sure she could feel every open crevice in her hand on fire--maybe even make a map of them in her head. Shakily she let some of the air out as the pain slowly began to abate, her face tight and eyes scrunched. "I feel like I should be casting fire magic. Life or Moon?" she asked Heidi through the squint. Oh thank God there was aloe vera this time.

Heidi frowned and bit her lip when Stormy reacted to the towel on her hand. Yeah, she knew it was going to hurt. Hopefully the pain would subside quickly. She had to do this for each hand. "Deep breaths~. I'd offer a hand to squeeze but uhhh.." Heidi glanced at Stormy's other hand. Not a good idea. "Dude. That would be so cool. Like the fire princess~. And I'm Moon," she answered proudly with a smile, leaning over to peek around Stormy and see the back of her coat. "Annnnd Mist, right? That's neat. What's it like?" Heidi turned the faucet on again and cupped her hands under the water so she could bring them back up and slowly trickle it over the wet cloth. It had to stay cold and wet, and doing this would be a lot less painful than just holding Stormy's hand under the faucet.

"There's a fire princess? I know about an ice queen coming up . . ." But then, when wasn't Stormy able to connect Disney to things? But oh, she had to coo once she knew the division! "So it's a full moon," she announced happily, distracted from the pain with a simple detail. "So cute~ Fighting evil by moonlight~ Winning love by daylight~"
She . . .didn't really remember the rest of the song, whoops.
Bracing herself for the water, Stormy sighed a little as it helped cool her hands down, even as the wounds continued to sting. "Busying sorta. Ms. Candace put up new training things to do, and we're supposed to keep up with the other divisions. I've sorta got some knowledge on patching people up, and my offense is decent I guess. This keeps up, though, I won't be able to do really good fine motor skill things like Life does," she joked lightly. "That was probably the worst training course I ever did. Always fumbled the Life portion on the Mist training too, come to think of it . . ."
Exploding cuffs were a little nerve-wracking, to be fair.
"But I think I'dve make a good Moon! Or at least I'm apparently better at defending." She looked as if she wanted to say more, then diverted to a question instead: "Your turn. What's Mooning like? Is it always defending and stuff?"

"Yeah, did you miss those episodes?" Heidi blinked. Maybe she'd been here to long to know the wonders of Adventure Time. Oh, dude! Did Rep have those DVDs maybe? Marathon night. Heidi was confused by the sudden sentiment about full moons. Was tonight a full moon? What did that have to do with anything? And Sailor Moo-- winning love. Heidi blushed, her smile growing and taking on a goofy love struck quality to it. Winning love. Yes, she wanted to win Tuck's love. Matilda chuckled quietly. "Something like that~. I mean I hope..ah...so Tuck says you're his little sister?" Stormy started to explain a little bit about Mist and Heidi took the distraction as a chance to check on her hand. Hm..it looked a little better. She lifted the towel off Stormy's hand and grabbed the bottle of aloe, squirting some of it onto Stormy's palm and very gently spreading it over her skin. "Geeze, that sounds like a lot of work. Do you have to know how to do every division's duties?" Heidi was not jealous. She liked having something specific to do. The question was turned on Heidi and she grinned, unclipping the bandage roll to begin bandaging up Stormy's hand in a way that would still let her use her fingers. "How's that? Not too tight?" She asked first before she continued. "Yeah, Dakota gave me a lesson on defending and working with those around you, communication during battle and all that. Marcus took me to do the Moon course and I was pretty boss at building defenses, and lately I've been picking up duties in the infirmary here. It's nice, I actually know some of this stuff already, the basics y'know? But I think I'm better at this than actually jumping in front of someone and defending them."

Heidi could probably tell by the way Stormy blinked owlishly at her that this was going over her head. What didn't was the blush, which earned a bright look because dawwwdawwwdawwwwwwwwww. "Yes I am~" she chirped as Heidi rolled the bandages over her hands. "I formally adopted him and Herc--um, Evan--after the Sahara mission. They're like guard dogs!"
Guard dog eclipse bros.
Stormy flexed her fingers experimentally. "This is fine," she said with a nod, burying the pain down because wheeeee conversationnnnn. She listened curiously to Heidi's explanation, tilting her head a bit. "Awesoooome~ I remember that course: which material did you build with? I think I used...hay bales? Or wood? Wait." She scrunched her face. "...I forgot. Whoops? But, um, yeah it's kinda hard sometimes since I might forget to check up other areas. Life stuff is normally me helping Cap'n with her catalogue project, I'm not shabby at defending like I said (though repairs? Ahahaha...), Sun and Death...er...I guess training with others is the only way to go, huh?"
She experimented moving her hand again and smiled. "Already feeling better! Thanks," she td Heidi with a nod. "I reeeeaaaally don't want this to scar. It'll upset Gale, I think."

"That's neat! I don't know Evan too well, I've only met him a couple times so far," Heidi explained, cutting the bandages at the end so she could clip them properly. She gave it a light tug to make sure it was secure. Not too bad a job! She looked proud. "Tuck is very guard dog, huh? He worries a lot~. It's cute." But she would never tell Tuck she thought his concern was cute. That could come off patronizing. No thanks. "I uuuused brick at first but I ended up sticking to wood after that. My defenses actually held up better than Marcus'," Heidi told Stormy with a smirk. Teach him to dismiss her treehouse. Heh. "Cap'n?" Heidi wet the cloth again to gingerly lay it on Stormy's other hand. It seemed conversing with her was enough to keep the other girl's mind off the pain. She was totally cool with this. "No problem! Oooh! Who's Gale? Boyfriend?" She grinned, repeating what she had done with keeping Stormy's palm cold while she was distracted.

"Oh it's totally cute," she agreed with a little grin. Unless it becomes coddling. "Very chivalrous of them both. Just make sure Tuck doesn't go blindly follow it either, okay? He might do something stupid like, say, sacrifice his life all heroically and what not since Sun and Moon usually go on the front lines. I would be very cross if something happened, as I'm pretty sure you would too," she added with a sagacious nod. "So make sure he remembers he's not allowed to do that, okay? That's the duty I as his sister give to you as his girlfriend." Stormy's tone was still conversational, even teasing, but she lingered on the sentence as though it had more meaning.
Far too many people have had talks about lives being worthless except in bargaining.
"Cap'n? Oh! As in Captain, Captain Amelia of the RLS Legacy in Disney's Treasure Planet," she explained happily. "Incidentally named RLS for Robert Louis Stevenson, the author of the work Treasure Island which inspired the movie! There's a Life hunter named Ms. Ami that I call Cap'n because she reminds me of the character: no-nonsense, dry, and kinda like a fussy cat~ Sometimes I give people Disney nicknames so I can remember who they are," she went on to say with another nod. "Like Evan is Hercules 'cause he's brave and strong and light haired and in the Sun division!"
Stormy held as still as possible while Heidi worked on bandaging the other hand, resisting the urge to pull away--her left hand had suffered a little worse, being the one closer to the span of steel when it went off. "Mmm, Gale?" The corners of her mouth twitched up as she gave the girl a wink. "Tuck and Evan don't know his name yet; it's almost like a game dangling it in front of them since they're super protective. Well, Evan is. Tuck's no fun and just trusts me implicitly." She gave a long-suffering sigh. "I'm still a little sad he didn't tell me about you before I saw you at the fake bake sale, but I guess I hadn't really been keeping up like I should be. How long've you guys known each other?"

Like, say, sacrifice his life..
Heidi froze, her eyes wide. Oh god..oh god that did sound like him. Especially after what he had told her about right before he was recruited. Even Matilda had tensed in the back of Heidi's mind. He wouldn't, right? He wouldn't do that to her? He wouldn't die for her or for Evan or for Gnat, right? Sure, he could say he would but..he wouldn't actually do it, right? Oh god. Oh god he probably would. Her heart felt like it was plummeting into her stomach, she felt sick at the very thought. No. Stormy was right. He needed to remember that was not okay. She forced a smile, the corner of her lip trembling slightly, as she gave Stormy a nod. "Y-yeah. You're right. I'd be a little mad, yeah.."
She cleared her throat and clung onto the lighter topic of conversation. She didn't want to think about Tuck may or may not possibly do. No. It wouldn't happen, so why think about it. It wouldn't happen.
"Aw, really? That's cute! I like that. I usually just give names like, based on how they look or something. Tuck calls me Short Stack or Heidward, so I call him things like Gigantor, Forest, Tall Man and Tuckella," Heidi said with a fond smile that she couldn't help having. Thinking fun and happy things about Tuck just made her happy. She couldn't be anything else. "Hercules, huh? What's Tuck?"
Heidi gasped quietly and put a hand to her chest when Stormy told her the boys didn't know her boyfriend's name. "Goodness, Miss Stormy! Are you going to make me keep a secret from my boyfriend? The very thought is just..my gosh!" She snorted from the laughter she was trying to contain. "I won't tell. Can I make it known that I know though? Just to drive them nuts?" That could be fun. Tuck had threatened to get information out of her before and nothing had come of it. She wasn't worried.
That blush returned when Stormy complained about only just finding out about her. "W-well, we've only been like..officially together for a little while...like..oh man..I think it's been almost a month? The cake thing was actually the first time we've been together with, like, a crowd..excluding the cruise, I guess." And all they'd done was hold hands. Come to think of it..he'd grabbed her hand and refused to let it go. Heidi's smile grew at the memory. She finished with Stormy's other hand, fastening the bandage roll and capping the bottle of aloe. "Ummm! Wow..uh..." How long had they known each other? Geeze. It felt like a super long time.
"Oh! We met in April!" Right! Because that was when she'd realized she missed her own birthday. Heidi grinned. "I guess we..kinda hit it right off to begin with? Heh. Um..but...yeah. We met in April and started dating last month, and then it was after a couple dates he..asked me to be his girlfriend, basically."

The stumbling told Stormy that Heidi hadn't considered it, which made her wonder what it was: blissfulness leading to ignorance of their circumstances, or utter trust in Tuck--or both? She hadn't meant to make her waver but, well, it if got the job done . . . There was little in the world more powerful than an idea once planted, after all. "Tuck's Tuck," Stormy answered with a tiny shrug, almost apologetic even. "He didn't want a nickname, so I didn't give him one." She paused, then leaned forward conspiratorially. "Between you and me, I think he's, like . . . James P. Sullivan--Sulley. Really tall, good at what he does, can be menacing, and super fierce loyal~" Now if only his favorite color had been blue . . .
It was great knowing Heidi actually got the game, though. But the "Miss" had to be waved off because nonononono. "Just Stormy. Or else I'll start calling you Miss and Ma'am like they do in the South," she said with a pout that lasted all of two seconds, replaced with a little giggle. "Please do tease them, though~ I don't know if Tuck actually cares anymore to know, but you'll see more of him than I will--it's always funny to rile up someone here and there if there's a chance to." And, well, it was fun to confide in someone, no matter how silly the secret! She'd normally do it with Nevada, so . . .
No, no, happy thoughts. New friend thoughts! New friend only met brother friend in April, huh? Not bad~ Stormy bobbed her head at appropriate intervals, unable to hide her fond smile--her fond smile of unabashed shipping brought about from catching even a glimpse of the glow of people in the throes of romance. Those feels were just too hard to combat nowadays. "That's good!" she chirped, her face dimming with pain only briefly as Heidi finished her work. She flexed her fingers a little more, testing her limits. Maybe she ought to invest in some gloves? "Excelente! I'm glad things worked out~ But why Tuckella and Heidward?" she had to ask, since they stood out. She smelled a story.

A Sully, huh? She could see it. Sully was a good fit for Tuck. And hey, there was blue in green. "That does work for him. Too bad he didn't want a nickname." Wonder why? He seemed okay with the nicknames she'd given him when they met. Heidi had called him like seven different things. When Stormy tried to correct her on the "Miss" thing she laughed and shook her head. "Was just a joke, don't worry. I already get enough Miss Potter to be totally okay with not being called Miss Heidi. And I'm happy to tease them. Tuck's funny to rile up sometimes, he takes me so seriously if he can't figure out if I'm kidding or not." Though sometimes it did backfire on her, like the first time she'd met Evan and tried to make a sex joke. Yeah, that hadn't really worked. That was a fail on Heidi's part. Heidi watched Stormy's face, her blush only getting worse and worse the longer the other girl looked at her with that smile. Having someone excited about a relationship she was in wasn't something she was used to. It was a nice feeling to have someone outside of her relationship happy for her, it was just very new and unfamiliar. Was she talking too much about it? She wanted to know more about Stormy! She used to sometimes tune out her best friend when she would drone on and on and on about her boyfriend but now all she wanted to do was talk about Tuck. But Stormy just kept asking questions. She couldn't just not answer them! That was rude! "It's a Twilight reference. I think I told Tuck to like...not fall for me or something, and..either he called me Heidward or I called him Tuckella first. I don't remember. But it kinda just, y'know, became a thing? He hasn't called me Heidward since we started dating officially though..hm." Why not? She'd called him Tuckella a couple times, and usually when she did that he replied with Heidward, but he usually called her sweetheart and baby now. Heidi had to bite down on her lip to keep herself from giggling. She did like sweetheart and baby. She cleared her throat. "So what's Gale like? What division is he?" Let's talk about you now.

"Guess not a Disney one at least." Maybe she'd call him Sulley anyway one day to test the waters...Although "Herc and Tuck" sounded nice since they were both one syllable. Hmm. Choices.
Stormy had been about to apologize--she really did take everything seriously that was directed at her--but stopped when she heard Heidi's last name. Oh...oh dear. "I know the feeling sorta," she said with a sympathetic look. "I used to be chubby, and the first word of my first name is Ursulina, and if you add my Disney obsession to the mix, you get a lot of people calling me Ursula the evil sea witch. Or fat witch. Or fat." She paused thoughtfully. "Or w*****k a couple of times..." But that was off topic.
On topic was a book she had read what felt ages ago now, and the reference made her giggle a little more. "Maybe he just doesn't want to imagine you as a vampire that watches him sleep at night," she pointed out jokingly. "Gale and I go by different ones, like Sherlock and Watson, or Will Turner--that's my Disney nickname for him--and Jack Sparrow or Elizabeth Swann depending on how I feel. Sometimes he calls me Lightning as a code name on missions; I forgot what I called him that one time..." Mostly because she was remembering how he'd said he called her that because she lit up his world, and it was very hard not to indulge in those good feelings it gave her.
"Gale's, um...a very serious guy." She flexed her hands again, feeling the urge to clasp them together before her as she often did. "But I like to believe he'll learn not to be so much; actually, I think he's been getting in touch with his inner kid," she said as a matter of factly, wearing a different sort of fond look than the one given to Heidi: more affectionate. The fruit fight was still fresh in her mind. "A little dry humored, but I guess that's a staple for someone from England. And two things any good guy should be: smart and stubborn~"
A stray thought occurred to her, and Stormy paused in her description to lightly press her palms together and rub them. It was...a little unpleasant, but an interesting sensation: it would have tickled even if she wasn't in pain. "He's in Death," she went on to say, fascinated by her own hands. "Specialized in following up on Horseman activity. He's actually away right now on a mission since Caelius wants him following up on a possible artifact they made." Her expression dimmed momentarily, and then went back to its regular brilliance.
"So while he's away, I've been trying to better myself! Between Gale being gone and Nevada sleeping, I've...sorta had a lot of time to myself."
