>> Well, I take Art History. At the moment we're just easing into our first real topic, which is Neo-classicism, and will be studying works from the French Revolution and the sorts (David, Ingres etc)
Anyways, before that the teacher was just making us analyze a few paintings to get our language and vocabulary of art settled. We studied a religious painting.. I forgot what it was.. sorry sweatdrop . Anyways the archangel (I think it was Gabriel?) looked to me as if it represented both genders. I asked the teacher this, and she said:
"(Arch)angels are genderless.."
Well... I didn't know that.
This was at the beginning of the week, so I may have forgotten some essential parts in this.
Please feel free to correct me. <<

Yes, they have no gender. Another tidbit of infor for you: the Archangel Gabriel was among the highest class of angels. He was a Seraphim, the angels closest to God. They have three pairs of wings, I think, or was it more....?

Gabriel olny became the closest angel to god after Lusifer was cast out. Angels yes are genderless, but when they apear to humans we ofton depict them as either male or female, I think this is because when they come to earth they chose one of the genders to apear as.

Yeah they don't have a specific physical form so they take the form of one of the genders. Probably the one that is most similar to who they are.

I am not saying that any one inparticular here is like that its just what humans do sweatdrop

Moonlight_HuangHou Thats pretty interesting 3nodding What about Lucifer though? Was he genderless because we all refer to him as "He". Male. Technically he is genderless but humans need to define things as one thing and not none so the define it in a specific gender and based on the history and stories the give them a gender, so they called him a male. It's like God, they call him father while technically he has no gender but they need to associate it with something like a father.

I agree totally. Angels choose the gender they want to use.
